I see people clowning on Sony IE for ripping off Mario (and maybe a bit of Splatoon). I say: GOOD; I'd rather you rip off those things than make another space shooter or fantasy sword game.

I mean this video has less than 2000 views lol. Most of the response to this game I've seen has been "This looks great, I'm so glad Sony is making their own Mario game", which is appropriate.

It's always weird to go on any other Smash discussion place and be reminded that common SmashBoards takes aren't particularly popular opinion.

I think the biggest difference is the attitude between a new game or Ultimate Deluxe.

I think the discussion on SmashBoards makes it so more people can accept a new game will come and be different from Ultimate.

Meanwhile, on say, Reddit or Twitter, more people are uneasy on the idea of something not being up to snuff with Ultimate.

I think this could make my ‘casual playerbase split’ prediction more likely. Some people may just refuse to move on from Ultimate.

Now I think about it, a casual playerbase split is probably the only good thing that could come out of EIH long-term - compared to the Melee/Brawl split, this is something that very directly effects Nintendo's core market for the game and its power as a promo tool, and would absolutely require the series to change course.
