  • Didn't even realize it until right now, but today is my 7th anniversary of being on this site! Looking at my first post on the site feels so weird now.

Yo, I was wondering if you wanted some music recommendations for when RTC handles Beatrice, it's a niche game and I'd be happy to give you my personal recommendations

Sure! You can send me any song suggestions either here or through a PM. Three songs is generally the max for each post generally.

I'd suggest Golden Slaughterer, Prison Strip and Death by Stupefaction then, they're my personal faves of the 200+ OST

Have you ever considered doing an article for Gunvolt? He feels like a perfect choice for a "Smash Underdogs" article. No begging though.
Just played the Balan Wonderworld demo... it feels like if Jump Force were a 3D platformer.

I haven't played the demo, but maybe there's a chance it will get patched and fix it's most glaring issues later.

Then again this is square-enix, and unless the game is a mainline Final fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, or Dragon quest, what you get on release is what you get, whether it's a bug-filled mess or not.

I think the technical issues will be fixed in the final game, but all of the other issues like slow running speed and the issues involving costumes will most likely be staying.

Yeah I don't think Square Enix is going to do much to save this game especially given past precedent like the Avengers game. It feels like most of the game's budget went to the cutscenes while everything else was an afterthought.
    L
    link2702
good lord you weren't kidding, I just looked up a video of the demo running.

I feel the memes are actually true; the developer really DID blow the entire budget on the cutscenes.

I heard the Age of Calamity base game roster characters got leaked. Without spoiling anything, does anyone know how many playable characters there are?

With Soul Eater out of the way, it's time for me to binge through another anime for the first time.

I've been watching YYH on and off for the past few months and it's great, though there's some yikes stuff at the beginning and some instances of let's say, dated jokes. In the case of the latter, Togashi ended up becoming a better person as seen with HxH's better handling of minorities, so you're in for a good time

Oh yeah I saw the first three episodes and I think I know what you mean by those jokes. Aside from those I'm liking it so far. I also plan to watch HxH sometime in the future (most likely once I get caught up with One Piece).

Oh yeah I don't blame you for questioning about that since the last one was in June. In a nutshell I sort of hit writer's block with the Hat Kid article because:
    1. The controversies from July sort of killed my interest in Smash. I didn't even care about competitive Smash but just the entire ordeal made me not want to do anything Smash related. The RTC thread is basically the only thing I've been doing relating to Smash nowadays.
    2. I was sort of contemplating if Hat Kid would technically be an Underdog or not. On one hand she isn't too popular in the Smash scene but on the other hand I see people with Hat Kid profile pics all the time.
I've sort of gotten over point #1 but a Nintendo/Smash Direct would definitely make things like they used to. I talked to some other people about point #2 and they sort of agreed that Hat Kid could be seen as an Underdog.

I can't give promises but I'll try to publish it within the first two weeks of September.
My thoughts on One Piece's post-Marineford arc:

    • I was honestly not a fan of the Luffy/Ace/Sabo backstory. I know Sabo was foreshadowed in Marineford (and technically ever since Alabasta because of Ace's tattoo) but he just felt like a self-insert which detracted from the whole thing. It was less of an Ace/Luffy bonding story and more of a Sabo exposition story plus the whole thing went on for longer than it should have. I know Sabo is popular and returns later in Dressrosa, but needless to say I'm far from his biggest fan.
    • The scene where Luffy was thinking about his crew to dispel the negative thoughts around him made me tear up more than the entire flashback arc.
    • I'm surprised all of the crew put together the meaning of 3D2Y.
    • My brother showed me an additional scene after seeing the final pre-timeskip episode so it'd be like a post-credits scene: it was on the origin of Luffy's hat. I'm surprised I didn't see that coming sooner.

And with that I am officially finished with pre-timeskip One Piece! It's been a long journey so far but honestly I think One Piece might be my favorite anime series so far (even surpassing JoJo).

I want to take a break from One Piece to focus on other things (I binged through 516 episodes from the end of May to now!). I'll probably resume watching it when one of the following happens:
    • The group reaches Laugh Tale in the manga.
    • At least two years have passed from August 25th, 2020.
    • There aren't any other shows for me to get into (most likely scenario).
    Until then...

I forgot to tell you Sari, Shanks used Conqueror's Haki in the 1st chapter of the manga/5th episode of the anime when he scared away the sea king to save Luffy. It's amazing Oda foreshadowed Haki all the way from the beginning of the story.

You are lucky you started watching it now as I started watching One Piece when the 4Kids Dub first aired on Toonami back in 2005. I stopped watching it after it stopped airing on Toonami and I didn't watch One Piece again until I heard about the Funimation Dub in 2011. After I caught up with the Dub, I started watching Sub and than started reading the manga. Since Impel Down, I have patiently been waiting for episodes/chapters to come out so you are lucky. I heard Oda said he plans to end One Piece in 5 years which I can't see happening due to the length of the arcs and how much there is left to cover in the story.

I'm now officially done One Piece's Marineford arc (last episode I saw was when the war just ended). My thoughts:

    • MVPs throughout the arc were Crocodile and Jinbe. At the end it was Coby and Shanks.
    • Doflamingo basically did nothing but laugh on the sidelines lol. I guess they have to save him for Dressrosa.
    • I already knew of Ace's death beforehand but the "thanks for loving me" line and Luffy's reaction made me tear up.
    • I hope Akainu steps on a lego.
    • Blackbeard is the dirtiest and most overpowered One Piece character ever.
    • Coby went from being afraid of Alvida to standing up to Akainu. His speech was so powerful that even Blackbeard was shocked.
    • I know Shanks is a Yonko and has Haki but even Mihawk and the admirals didn't bother messing with him. Is the full extent of his power ever shown? Asking because Shanks and his crew seem weak compared to Whitebeard and his men.

Easily one of my top 3 arcs.

    I just left off at...

    Shanks ending the war.

I'll probably resume the rest of the post-Marineford episodes during the weekend. I'll most likely reach the timeskip either by the end of next week or the week after.

Also just a heads up: I might be taking a break of One Piece for a while since I've been binging it so much recently. Crazy to think I began my OP journey around the end of May and have watched roughly 500 episodes since then. I'll probably try getting into another anime and focus on other things during that time; for starters I seriously have to continue playing Xenoblade Chronicles: DE which I've been holding off on because of OP. In a way it'll be cool since it's like I'm going through a timeskip myself plus I can also give the dub some time to catch up (though I know it'll take them years to get caught up to Wano so I'll have to switch to sub eventually).

But one thing I will say: I will absolutely return to watching One Piece since it's easily one of my favorite animes (if not my #1 favorite).

I'm glad you have become a massive fan.

So Whitebeard, Kaido, Big Mom, Shiki, Captain John, two other pirates were all part of the same crew called Rocks under a captain named Rocks D. Xebec. It was said Rocks was Roger's greatest rival. Captain John's corpse was at Thriller Bark and Sliver Axe and Wang Yang's corpses were probably there too if you go back and watch. Man, Roger was one hell of a badass and so was his crew. They have had to been Yonko level to fight with these monsters.

Starting One Piece's Marineford arc and things are already off to a crazy start.

    For starters...

    ACE IS RODGER'S KID?!?!?!?!

I was watching this by myself and let out a big "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!?!" when this revelation happened.
Watching some more Impel Down of One Piece. Shaping up to be one of my favorite arcs so far since I love the villain interactions. And Luffy just came face-to-face with someone he hasn't seen since the time of Skypiea (needless to say he is super pissed).

Oh and I gotta ask... do we ever learn of Crocodile's history with Iva? I have some... theories...
    R
    RetrogamerMax
We are 987 chapters in and we still no nothing about Crocodile's history with Ivankov. Here is almost everyones' theory about that
Crocodile was born a female and Ivankov turned her into a male so she could be stronger? I don't think that would really give her a power boost as Big Mom, Smoothie, and Boa Hancock are some of the most powerful characters in the series and they're all females. Maybe Crocodile just thought being turned into a male would make her stronger.

I watched so much One Piece over the past few days so I'll post my summarized thoughts below:
    • The Sabaody Island arc was great but at the same time it was really hard to watch because of all of the human trafficking stuff.
    • I already knew of the Celestial Dragon punch scene before watching the show but it was still the most satisfying thing ever.
    • How the heck are they ever gonna beat someone like Kizaru? His fruit power is just way too broken.
    • Even though the Strawhats obviously weren't dead after what Kuma did, I still teared up at the scene of Luffy grieving.
    • I last left off at Impel Down right before they're about to fight the Warden with poison powers. I'm really loving the relationship between Luffy and the older villains.

My favorite Supernova would probably be Jewelry Bonney because I like anime girls that eat a lot of food I like her design and ability.

The Duval face reveal was hilarious. My brother asked me to guess who the masked person could be and literally all of my guesses were wrong. I'm guessing Haki will be able to get through Devil Fruit powers so they can beat the tougher marines like Kizaru.

I last left off at Luffy, Buggy, Mr. 3, and Mr. 2 about to fight the Warden with poison powers. I'm not sure who the person could be so I won't click that spoiler tag just yet. I do know that Crocodile and this big head guy based on Tim Curry help out for a bit so it could also be one of them.
    ZoroCarlos
    ZoroCarlos
Bonney unfortunately hasn't had her time to shine yet in the story besides starting to tease her history. Only she and Mad Monk Urouge haven't had significant parts yet.

I like to theorize that Urouge is from Birka, the same island Eneru was from that he destroyed, he probably faced off against him and lost then retreated to the sea as "The Fallen Monk Pirates". Won't be able to know for sure until after the current arc, I assume.
    R
    RetrogamerMax
Well, actually Urouge has had one shining moment so far which is:
Defeating Snack a former Sweet Commander. That's no easy feat by any means.
I hate how if you go to your profile --> postings, you can no longer view any posts unless it was from around 2015 or after the maintenance ended.
I'm now officially finished with One Piece's Thriller Bark arc. Overall it was alright but like I said before the Moria fight dragged on for way too long. The last couple of episodes with the Kuma fight and Brook's backstory saved the arc though. Brook easily had the saddest backstory aside from Chopper and Robin (I now have Binks' Sake stuck in my head).

And now it's time to begin the most important arc... the Spa Island filler arc featuring the Foxy pirates! After that I think it's that one other canon arc (I think it was called... Marineford?).

You've got a ways to go until Marineford - there's still Shabondy (Sabaody? However it's spelled), Amazon Lily, and Impel Down. (though Amazon Lily is fairly short)

Brook's Backstory is I think tied with Robin's backstory for the moment that made me the saddest.
    R
    RetrogamerMax
Robin and Brook definitely had the saddest back stories. But there is two other characters who had back stories as almost as sad as them. One character's back story revolving around not just around them but their followers and the people of said character's home country.

I'm almost done the Thriller Bark arc in One Piece; they just beat Moria and now they're getting wrecked by Kuma (I have no idea how they're going to escape from him).

So far it was an alright arc. Obviously it was no Water 7 but I enjoyed it way more than Skypiea. Main issues were some of the humor fell flat and much like the Eneru fight, the fights with Oars and Moria dragged on for way too long.
How fitting that I'm going into the Thriller Bark arc of One Piece while I still have my skeleton Quote profile pic.

Moria called the New World a nightmare as his entire crew was massacred by Kaido alone. Blackbeard as you will find out is extremely dangerously and cunning. Like Akainu, I think Blackbeard will be one of the final foes Luffy fights in the end of the series. Everyone believes the Strawhats vs the Blackbeard Pirates will be the last battle before Luffy reaches Laughtale and becomes Pirate King. I have a SUPER in depth theory about Blackbeard's role in the series. Take a look at it when you're caught up.

I’m honestly curious about something: if the Going Merry got this big send-off, what happened to the rowboat Luffy used at the start of the series? Who knows, maybe this did get explained but I just forgot
    R
    RetrogamerMax
I forgot too whether or not they mentioned what they did with the old rowboat.

Now while it hasn't been confirmed yet, there is a theory that the Thousand Sunny is actually the Pluton and Franky memorized the blueprints in his memory and built it into the Sunny.
