Get On My Level X Melee and Ultimate Top 8 Recap

GOMLX.jpg

Get On My Level X was quite a stellar Smash tournament and featured some absolutely insane gameplay. And speaking of insane, Super Smash Bros. Melee saw one of the greatest upsets in its entire history. The number one ranked player in the world, Cody Schwab lost in Winners to Donkey Kong main “Bing”. The tournament isn’t just a big deal because of an upset though. Melee singles had a whopping 770 entrants and Ultimate wasn’t far behind, boasting 688 players! So, without further ado, let’s take a look at who our contestants in Top 8 were:

Melee Top 8:

First, Zain and Aklo met up in Losers. Zain gave us a very dominant performance, taking a 3-0 victory. Then, something quite fascinating occurred, a Jigglypuff ditto between SDJ and Hungrybox. SDJ took the first two games, but Hungrybox clawed his way back with a 3-2 victory. And, once it ended, HungryBox had what might be his biggest pop-off in his whole career. Up in Winners, Mang0 and Jmook clashed. There were some production issues, but the set eventually ended with a 3-2 victory for Jmook. Soonsay and moky were up next in a ditto. Soonsay eventually prevailed over his fellow Canadian Fox main moky, and took it 3-1!

Of course, the inevitable had to occur, Hungrybox and Mang0 were up next in Losers Quarters. In yet another close set between the two legends, Mang0 won this one 3-2. Zain and Moky were next, with Zain winning the set in another 3-0. Winners Finals were next, so Soonsay and Jmook fought one another. The games felt rather close despite the set score, with Jmook winning 3-0.

Over in Losers Semis, the next set was between Zain and Mang0. Zain then scored yet another impressive 3-0. Zain and Soonsay then duked it out in Losers Finals. Zain won once again, but Soonsay took a game off Zain, ending in a 3-1. There was one last battle though, and the Grand Finals was between Jmook and Zain! Zain just barely managed to get his reset with a 3-2 victory. Then, Zain also won the second set 3-1, taking home the gold!

Final Melee Standings:
1st: Zain
2nd: Jmook
3rd: Soonsay
4th: Mang0
5th: Hungrybox
5th: moky
7th: Aklo
7th: SDJ

Ultimate Top 8:

The Top 8 began in Losers with a set between Onin and Sisqui. Sisqui managed to take one game, but ultimately fell to Onin 3-1. Next up were MkLeo and Sonix. The battle between the two titans ended with a 3-2 victory for Sonix, complete with a 3-stock in the last game. Up over in Winners we got treated to a bout between Riddles and Big D. Riddles took this with a rather strong 3-1. After this came a very close set, Tweek versus Syrup. In the end though, Tweek emerged victorious 3-2.

Back down in Losers, Big D had to play Onin, with Onin taking it 3-2. Syrup and Sonix played after that. Every game had the victor down to 1 stock, but the set itself ended 3-1 in Sonix’s favor. It was then time for Winners Finals, this time between Tweek and Riddles! Tweek took this rather solidly with a 3-1. Then in Loser’s Semis, Onin played against Sonix. Sonix then defeated his second Steve in a row with another 3-1 victory.

Losers Finals was around the corner, so Riddles and Sonix faced off. Sonix won this with his third 3-1 victory in a row. Finally, Grand Finals arrived. Sonix and Tweek fought in the tournament’s final battle, but in the end there had to be a victor. Tweek ultimately won with a clean 3-0, making him the champion of GOML X!

Final Ultimate Standings:
1st: Tweek
2nd: Sonix
3rd: Riddles
4th: Onin
5th: Big D
5th: Syrup
7th: MkLeo
7th: Sisqui

Author’s Note: GOML X was fantastic if you ask me. Jmook vs Zain might be my favorite set of the year, it was absolutely amazing. SDJ vs Hbox, Bing beating Cody, Tweek vs Riddles, it was all quite great. But, what did you all think about the event? Please let us know in the comments below!
