"Popularity" is always subject to short-sighted bias in the Smash community as a whole.

I think the biggest difference is the attitude between a new game or Ultimate Deluxe.

I think the discussion on SmashBoards makes it so more people can accept a new game will come and be different from Ultimate.

Meanwhile, on say, Reddit or Twitter, more people are uneasy on the idea of something not being up to snuff with Ultimate.

I think this could make my ‘casual playerbase split’ prediction more likely. Some people may just refuse to move on from Ultimate.
I think Multiversus should adopt the Overwatch 2 system where a character is free for everyone after a certain time. That would still suck, but less so than what we have now.

It doesn't feel like the grind is as bad to me, possibly because the game itself feels more fun than it did in 2022. But still, I don't like that I can't play as base roster characters OR the brand new guys yet.
