Random thing to note, but if you're into that soundtrack, I'd totally recommend giving the soundtrack to Metropolis Street Racer for the Dreamcast a listen. It's another Jacques/Davis work, but it's got a really neat similar kinda house vibe to Sonic R's stuff (with, if I remember rightly, the same vocalist?) Absolutely worth a listen. It's a vibe.

Considering that Galoob got acquired by Hasbro.

So I played Sonic Superstars. My initial thoughts after playing through the first two zones:

Core gameplay is honestly solid - had fun breezing through zones even if level design felt a bit wonky sometimes (most notably so in Speed Jungle)
Honestly the bosses I played were pretty mid. Bridge Island's first boss barely qualifies as a boss,; The second one I was kinda fearing getting into because iI heard it took ages but I beat it in a reasonable amount of time. Speed Jungle's bosses were sadly kinda ass; The first one was okay if a bit boring but the second is tedious af
Special stages feel kinda mindless. It's the first two emeralds so I'm not expecting anything too difficult but I felt like i was kinda mashing A and somehow getting away with it. the "fruit" stages were fun though
As for emerald powers, they're cool on paper but there weren't any times I felt really compelled to use em
Overall it's... okay. Definitely no Mania and struggles with things outside of core "gotta go fast" gameplay but i'd give it a solid 6/10 so far, maybe a 7

Cool of a mode as the original All-Star Mode was, I feel like there is such a thing as the roster becoming too big for it to really be something that can stick around.

What I'd like to ask all of you though is, did the roster for Ultimate reach that point?
