Does this require a dance pad? If so, then I couldn’t see it be included.

Was curious & googled myself, strategywiki & gamefaqs both mention being able to use a gamecube controller.

SoulCalibur 2

Can play vs battle for 5 min. Only 2nd column of characters (Link, Cassandra, Xianghua, Nightmare, & Astaroth) & their home stages are available.

I own this game and played it extensively as a kid, while a Dance Pad can be used, it can also be played with a regular Gamecube controller, with either the directional D-Pad or the action buttons (A, B, X, Y) mapped to the arrows.

Thank you everyone for your submissions! Due to the number of them, we will be accepting all submissions.

We will be having a newcomer submission later in the day but I will be announcing the upcoming prompt for our newcomer. This is going to be a third-party character with significant ties to Nintendo. Right now is a brainstorming period. Not a submission period. We can also discuss about the parameters and requirements of our submissions. Ping me for questions.

Ok everyone! We are nearing our end of the Year 2 Festival. What is left to include our last released character followed by any relevant content that comes with said character (if any at all). After that, we will work in adding Alear and this character into our overarching story....

Submit a Third-Party Character

Our third-party character that we are submitting will have an active role in our Festival wide story as well as an over-arching story within Year 3. In terms of what is acceptable, here is our guidelines:

  • Needs to be a third-party character with a connection to Nintendo
  • Appeared in either two titles on Nintendo OR from an iconic game with a lasting legacy
  • While appearing on the Gamecube is preferable due to a focus of GC-era content, it's not required

When submitting, please provide a name and series that the character belongs to along with a picture. Please also provide a small write-up of how that character may play in the game and why the character should be included. This can be a paragraph in length. Recently, we have had newcomer submissions that is just "I am submitting Mr. X from Y" or something to that effect. I wish for us to include more thought into what we submit so please provide a write up on that character. Not doing so may result in disqualification of your submission.

Alright...let's try this again.

ARTORIA PENDRAGON
1713394806001.png

Servant Class: Smasher
Debut: Fate/stay night (PC, 2004)
Games on Nintendo: Today's Menu With The Emiya Family, Fate/EXTELLA, Fate/stay night Remastered, Fate/Samurai Remnant

Artoria is one of the three heroines of the visual novel series Fate/stay night, and arguably one of the most notable faces in the entire series. Fate, and in general the greater universe created by Kinoko Nasu, has had an immense impact on the fan work scene and Fate is a media giant, with a still-running mobile game, countless manga and anime, and several games under its belt.

Artoria would be a mid-range fighter that combines the abilities of all her alternate appearances into a singular vessel, using invisible sword-swings to trick enemies, bolster herself with her Skills and press forward in an overall aggressive playstyle.

Resubmitting Rayman for our 3rd Party Candidate.

Third Party Fighter Submission: Rayman
View attachment 379522
Rayman is the protagonist of the series of the same name. He is a hero created by the Nymphs to defend the Glade of Dreams from upcoming threats, from the Hoodlums to the Robo Pirate army.

Ever since 1995 with the first game, Rayman has always been a noticeable platformer icon, especially in Europe. The unique and distinguishable aesthetics of the Rayman games could fit incredibly well in Super Smash Bros, as well as his many moveset potential: Rayman could take advantage of his floating limbs to make unique combos and hits, he could use many techniques he got from the main games like riding the walking shell from Rayman 2, the golden fist from Rayman 1, or even use the combat fatigues from Rayman 3 as selectable options like Hero's down special. Lastly, the series still manages to spark some interests from Ubisoft and keep a large audiance, especially since this year we got the Sparks of Hope DLC and a major cameo of Rayman in Captain Laserhawk. As well as the fact that Rayman does have big connections to Nintendo: from the Wii U exclusive Mario costumes in Legends, the fact that the first Raving Rabbids game was made for the Wii in mind, the few Smash 4 and Ultimate cameos to Sparks of Hope.
Not to mention one of his most notable games, Rayman 3 was also released for the Gamecube!

3rd Party Character

Chun-Li (Street Fighter)

1713399184744.png

Chun-Li is an iconic character from Street Fighter, known as the First Lady of fighting games. She often appears alongside Ryu as the de facto co-mascot protagonist of the series, a mainstay whenever Street Fighter is involved in a crossover. Smash is quite an outlier in that it includes Ryu but not her. Her biggest obstacle in the past was that she would be a 3rd Street Fighter character, but since the thread has elected a 3rd Sonic character, that obstacle has fallen. But Chun-Li is more than another Street Fighter character, she's a genuinely iconic character in her own right that has even surpassed the popularity of her own series and is legitimately one of the most important video game icons not in Smash Infinite yet.

Knuckles the Echidna (Sonic the Hedgehog)

Since we're focusing on Gamecube-era content right now, it feels fitting to look back at the time when Mario's once greatest rival, Sonic, first appeared on a Nintendo console: Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, for the Gamecube. While that game introduced a somewhat friendly rival for Sonic in Shadow, he wasn't the first. That would be Knuckles.

Since his debut in Sonic 3, Knuckles has become a member of the big 3 of Sonic games, appearing in almost every game since his debut. He sets himself apart from the rest of the cast with his strength, spiked knuckles, and gliding, climbing, and digging abilities, all of which he could bring to Smash, while also utilizing Sonic's spin dash if we wanted him to. Sonic Superstars even brought back his super form, so we could use that for his final smash, or come up with something different thanks to all the lore surrounding him and the echidna tribe, Angel Island, and the Master Emerald.

Knuckles is also more relevant in the past few years than he's been in a while, thanks to his prominent roles in games like Sonic Frontiers and Sonic Superstars, the Sonic 2 and presumably upcoming Sonic 3 movies, and even his own show on Paramount+. And on top of all of that, Sonic 3, his debut game, turns 30 this year. So vote for Knuckles! Unlike Sonic, he don't chuckle. He'd rather flex his muscles.

Aiai (Super Monkey Ball)

Decided to lean heavily into the gamecube theme we have at this time. Super Monkey Ball is a series that started in arcades but whos home console counter part was originally gamecube exclusive with series being closely associated with Nintendo for the most part. Series is seeing a bit of a revival with the Banana Mania remakes from a couple years ago & the 1st new game in years releasing soon.

Feel like the biggest point against Aiai is making a moveset around a Monkey in a rolling ball. However i have done a little research & it seems doable particularly using inspiration from the iconic Monkey Games & perhaps a momentum based gimmick. Lets not forget this is the same series that made a potted plant work. Also thought id throw out the idea of us treating alts like Hero & giving the other 3 original monkeys (MeeMee, Baby, & GonGon) a playable spot but is not necessary & could be overall rejected.

Shinra (Ikaruga)
Screenshot 2024-04-18 at 08-36-47 shinra ikaruga steam trading card - Google Search.png

Shinra is the protagonist of the hit Treasure arcade shoot 'em up, Ikaruga. First appearing on the Gamecube, and later ported to consoles like the Switch, Ikaruga is widely beloved title. According to Wikipedia, it is often regarded as one of the best games ever made. It was included in Nintendo Life's list of the 50 best Gamecube games, and IGN voted it the 3rd best 2D shooter of all time.
Screenshot 2024-04-18 at 08-42-41 ikaruga ship - Google Search.png

The ties don't stop there, though. Treasure also made Sin and Punishment, so it'd be nice for Saki to have a friend in Infinite Beyond. And, as I just learned today, Treasure's gotten to like, Square Enix and Sega-levels of being "close to Nintendo". Name a better Wario game right now.

Shinra is a battle-worn, yet unwavering freedom fighter who pilots the titular ship, the Ikaruga. Ikargua has the ability to shift between light and dark polarities, matching the colors of enemy ships and their bullets. Bullets of the same color as the player's ship willbe absorbed, while bullets the opposite color will destroy the ship - so for instance, if an enemy sprays you with light bullets, Shinra would shift Ikargua to the white polarity. This results in a frantic, fun, and fair gameplay loop which further tightens the tight gameplay of a bullethell and really helps put the player in that dreamlike flow state.

In Smash, Shinra would fight on foot, much like Captain Falcon and Fox. I'm not sure what his weapon could be - perhaps a large blaster, ripped straight off of the Ikaruga. He should also have some kind of stance-change ability inspired by his game's polarity mechanic. We could dedicate a special to this stance change, which could give him higtened defense to certain attacks - like, Light resists grabs and tilts, but Dark resists aerials and smashes.

Shinra's stance change could be visually represented by a change of clothes, a different-colored aura, or - my personal choice - having him swap out for Kagari, his partner and the Player 2 of Ikaruga's multiplayer mode. Shinra could represent light polarity and Kagari could represent dark polarity, as that's usually how they are depicted in artwork. They've been fighting alongside each other ever since Shinra saved Kagari's life, so I think having that powerful bond present in the actual fighter would be really cool and heartwarming.
Screenshot 2024-04-18 at 08-36-15 kagari ikaruga - Google Search.png

Additional content would partially feature Ikaruga, but would mostly be comprised of other Treasure games like Gunstar Heroes, Mischief Makers, Dynamite Headdy, the aforementioned Wario World, and we could even add a bit more Sin and Punishment content if we wanted.

I understand the concern that we just added Saki, another Treasure shoot-'em-up character. But I feel this criticism would also be applicable to say, Hero and Sephiroth in the same Fighter's Pass. Sin and Punishment and Ikaruga, like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, are equally great inclusions that have their own individual merits.

In conclusion, Shinra from Ikaruga being in Smash would be a unique stance-change fighter who could represent a really popular shoot-'em-up, and give a second fighter to Treasure, a very important game developer. I also really love the idea of characters who have to have stuff made up for them, like Fox and Falcon once were. Shinra is one of those characters, so I think it would be an awesome and fun collaborative project if we all came together to brainstorm how he should fight.

Ikaruga will be accepted due to being an iconic game but is there a model that we can use for the main character? I like having a cohesive appearance to our characters so having a model available is preferrible.

There may be a figure of Shinra somewhere. I know there are lots of figures for the actual ship, so I could also change my submission to be for Ikaruga itself (PTSD to the great arwing incident of 2023)

Not exactly the same really as there isn't so much a high quality model. I suppose we will cross that bridge when it comes to it but considering I work on art regarding the characters, ones that doesn't have any high quality versions can be difficult to work with.

I do not profess to be a fan of the series and I have only actually played one game from it but I am interested to see where this submission goes as, per usual, I become invested by the series we include and look into each series:

Jibanyan
From Level-5, Jibanyan "purrs" his way into Smash! A series with a long-storied history which become a huge media sensation back in the early 2000's which has largely waned but still retains its staying power. While I am largely unsure how Jibanyan would play, I could use the use of his physical attacks along with several improvised spiritual attacks. He also has the ability to "fuse" without Yokai giving him new powers which could be incorporated into his moveset. While the series is pass it's hayday, it is still largely iconic with a dedicated fanbase. In terms of Nintendo releases:
  • Yo-kai Watch (2013)
  • Yo-kai Watch 2 (2013-14)
  • Yo-kai Watch Blasters (2014)
  • Yo-kai Watch Dance (2015)
  • Yo-kai Watch Sangokushi (2015)
  • Yo-kai Watch 3 (2016)
  • Yo-kai Watch Busters 2 (2017)
  • Yo-kai Watch 4 (2019)
  • Yok-kai Watch Jam (2020)

That is a great pick of have one more Pokémon rival, but which Jibanyan will use for the design and moveset?,the OG one or Shadowside one?

Resubmitting Rayman for our 3rd Party Candidate.

Not to mention one of his most notable games, Rayman 3 was also released for the Gamecube!
3rd Party Character

Chun-Li (Street Fighter)

View attachment 388088

View attachment 388105
Shinra is the protagonist of the hit Treasure arcade shoot 'em up, Ikaruga. First appearing on the Gamecube, and later ported to consoles like the Switch, Ikaruga is widely beloved title. According to Wikipedia, it is often regarded as one of the best games ever made. It was included in Nintendo Life's list of the 50 best Gamecube games, and IGN voted it the 3rd best 2D shooter of all time.

Here they are in listed form:
  • Artoria Pendragon (Fate/Stay Night)
  • Bomberman (Bomberman)
  • Rayman (Rayman)
  • Chun-li (Street Fighter)
  • Knuckles (Sonic)
  • Aiai (Super Monkey Ball)
  • Shinra (Ikaruga)
  • Jibanyan (Yokai Watch)

(you freaky troller)

If that's what I think it is, this animated moveset concept video could help out, especially for a passive ability (at 8:05) and maybe specials could be arranged like this: an assist-esque (yet scaled down in size) bomb deployment, a jet-dashing headbutt, a leaping Louie/Rooey kick, elemental bomb switch (akin to Shulk's) and a cinematic Final Smash which starts with Dangerous Bomb that sends opponents out into the classic arena where they're bombarded by a Revenge Cart flying around.

For the reveal trailer, many characters are already easily established to potentially appear there: the Konami reps, Wario, other mascots (most particularly Mario next to a long-term partnership & Mega Man; probably a dot-chomper too), Ratchet & Clank and Master Chief. Maybe even Mii Fighters (Goemon & Pipo Monkey costumes, besides Aperture Smash Chamber) and Crash to reference his classic burned death animation?

About what I expected, I figured it would either be Rayman or Bomberman because both of them are a long time coming, with both Ubisoft and Konami being underrepresented in the roster. I actually really like Rayman and figured he was inevitable after he almost won against Master Chief.

I knew Chun probably wouldn't win considering we just added Morrigan but I'm really proud and happy that she got 3rd regardless, a good sign for future jobs when there's a little more distance from the previous Capcom newcomer.

Finally another fighter from my top 10 off my list.

Dixie Kong, Bandanna Dee, Krystal and Shantae were also on my top 10, as with more Sonic reps
Now we have Ray-Man
All I need is Lugia, Fawful, a Galar Pokémon and Midna, but I sadly doubt they will be in this game

Thank you everyone for everything you do! Without your help, this project would not be a thing but your help has really made Infinite and Infinite Beyond what it is. With all the good, bad, and in-between.

With our most recent addition, Ubisoft comes into the playable roster with Rayman as its main representative. I am excited to see if we include another Ubisoft rep later down the road.

Anyways, Rayman is a rather straight forward character thankfully and I don't see us having any issue with creating him.

Side Special:
1713578125245.png

Shock Rocket:

Rayman will wind up behind him and throw one of his fists like a rocket, essentially placing him in a Nikita-like state. Unlike with the Nikita, the Shock Rocket is still a punch, meaning it cannot be reflected...but it deals weaker damage, at around 11% and weaker knockback as well.

Dash Attack:
1713578276556.png

Rayman twirls around, hitting in front of and behind himself with a 360 hook punch. Unlike other Dash attack examples, this does not make Rayman stop, retaining all momentum and allowing him to continue running.

Gimmick: Helicopter Hair
Much like Peach's gliding mobility, Rayman uses his hair to hover through the arena for a few seconds.

Up special attack: The Throttle Copter
Rayman will use his helicopter helmet from Rayman 3 to fly upwards as a recovery, sort of like K. Rool's up special.

Down special attack:
The Combat Fatigues
Rayman will pick up a can of lazer detergant that can make him select three attacks, sort of like Hero's Menu

-Vortex shot, which can blow away opponents like the tornadoes in Zelda's Castle (64)

-Shock Rocket, who launches a dirigible missile towards your nearest enemy

-Heavy Metal Fist; Rayman's punch attacks will significantly get buffed for a while

As for my idea for his side special: Walking Shell

Rayman brings his trustworthy vehicle companion from R2 where the Shell can ram towards his opponents on land as well as becoming a dirigeable rocket in midair. The shell explodes on contact with your foe or after 4 seconds in midair.

Before going further, Rayman would definitely have a crawl (from the original 1995 title, Origins and Legends), wall jump and a tether property for DragonRobotKing's Lockjaw idea (besides shocking through it for a pummel).

Neutral Jab/Attack:

This may seem a bit unusual, but I've thought that Rayman should have two different jabs; both a traditional combo through tapping and a chargeable holding attack (unlike smash attacks), similarly to Min Min's.

Tapping the button will make Rayman perform a three-hit consecutive punch combo from Rayman Origins and Legends (shortened by one punch), starting with a right fist, then with the left fist and finishes up with a stronger, right punch.

If the player holds a button, Rayman will start charging up his signature Telescopic Fist by spinning it quickly before throwing forward as a short-ranged projectile when released, flying back to him like a boomerang upon reaching apex distance or hitting an opponent (even able to hit on the way back). When the attack is fully charged, Rayman's fist will fly a bit further, do more damage and turn golden with blue sparkles in aesthetic (referencing Golden Fist and Speed Fist power-ups in Rayman 1). Rayman can also charge up and fire his jab while moving and jumping, much like in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc.

Neutral Special: Magic Fist

From Rayman 2: The Great Escape, it's PlayStation 2 version (Revolution) and M/Arena/Rush, Rayman had the ability to shoot magical energy orbs as a primary attack, which can rebound off walls and barriers. This replaced Telescopic Fist until it returned in Rayman 3. For Infinite Beyond, I'm basically implementing BirthNote's version of the technique which I found to be a favorite version.

By simply pressing the button, Rayman will hurl a light orb from his hands and launch up to two at a time, which does little damage and can be angled in three directions (forward, diagonal up and down). Whenever the orb hits a surface, it becomes stronger and faster with each bounce as it changes color, even when colliding with surfaces, reflectors and shields, exploding upon touching a item, an opponent or destructible object. It can ricochet up to two times, turning from white to blue to gold (referencing the power grades from a same game), each having different properties.
  • White: Can be angled before firing, ricochets if hitting a surface or reflected/shielded, explodes if hitting enemies/objects and deals little damage.
  • Blue: Travels slightly faster, has a larger explosion and deals slightly more damage.
  • Gold: Travels much faster, has a powerful explosion which deals way more damage, exploding on contact with anything besides reflectors and doesn't ricochet.
