  • Before Totk came out, I made a post talking about possible new ingredients that weren't in BOTW.

    One of the ingredients I ended up mentioning was Cheese. Which I recently found in the game.

    Makes me feel pretty pleased that at least one of my predictions got in. And the fact that you can use that Cheese in cooking to make Pizza just blows my mind.
    I recently finished acquiring all the sages from the Regional Phenomena quest and the next thing in line for me was going to Hyrule Castle to find out what was going on with Zelda.

    I ended up trying to find a way into the castle through the chasm underneath it and eventually found out that’s not the correct path because that’s the way towards the final boss.

    Which leads me into the main point of this post. E10 is too low an ESRB rating for this game.

    The Depths are already, I’ll admit it, scary enough as is, but the closer you get to Ganondorf the scarier it gets. A super dark area lit up only by the dark and eerie glow of gloom complete with very foreboding music?

    I’m pretty sure the idea of Heaven, Earth, and Hell was part of the inspiration for the 3 maps but Ganondorfs Chamber takes the hell factor to a new level.
    If Dragalia Lost had received a Xenoblade Collab during its run, Rex could have potentially been in a weird spot if Pyra and Mythra were also their own adventurers.

    Not saying he couldn’t work. But if Pyra and Mythra are already using their own weapons they might want to do something different with Rex. Water Sword with his weapon before he found Pyra? Wind Axe with Rocs Scythe? Those are a couple ideas.
    Torgo the Bear mentioned a few days ago how their ideal Mario Kart Roster would include Diddy Kong Racing Characters.

    A fine idea in my opinion. But I also wonder if those characters being playable would mean the Diddy Kong Racing items would be added to the mix.
    How big is the overall base of people who feel like the way Min Min plays in Smash goes against the flow of the game?

    I used to think Min Min was not really a consideration for a character to cut but I’m beginning to wonder if she might be. And this is one of the reasons why.

    She's the type who I think should be toned down a bit but not cut entirely.

    Make her a tiny bit more well rounded and make her arm attacks less rediculous, probably by making them much more reactable at a long range.

    minmin is tricky because she's the sort of design that if it works even halfway decently it's going to be super frustrating to play against even if it isn't a top tier and that's always going to be an easy option to look at for making cuts. Probably would save a lot of time on balancing/design work too, takes a lot to make sure a more unique character like that can fit in. Plus she isn't particularly well-liked, especially in japan? from what I hear anyways.

    But if she stays for SSB6 or UltimateX2 or whatever I fully expect some nerfs or redesigns to her.
    Whoever decided to have the 3 dragons from the last game go into the chasms to fly through the depths deserves a massive raise.

    In Botw you could usually only get 1 material at a time from the dragons. But I stood on top of Farosh as it flew a couple laps along it's route and since after 10 in game hours the dragons re-charge and let you get another material from them, I acquired 10 Farosh materials from 1 encounter.

    Would have acquired even more if a Star Fragment hadn't shown up =P
    Earlier this month, Champion of Hyrule told me about he thinks that Square Enix and Ubisoft are currently worse than EA.

    And I will admit that this surprised me. I did already know about how Square was getting pretty ridiculous with things like the choice they made for Disiddia NT in an attempt to make it an esport. And how they got a little ridiculous with the Microtransactions in Chocobo GP.

    And I also learned later on that Ubisoft apparently out out a really bad game for the PS5, I think it was called Forspoken, but that’s pretty much it.

    Long Story Short, I don’t think I’m in the know about what’s so bad about Square Enix and Ubisoft lately.

    Ubisoft hasn’t been as dog**** as before, Assassin’s Creed Mirage looks like it’s going to fix or at least address a lot of the series’s problems but there’s still sexual assault at the company that has gone back years and gone unaddressed so yeah terrible company.

    For Square, NFTS mostly, plus their overuse of the live service model. Babylon’s Fall was one of the biggest video game disasters in recent memory, and there’s the time they sold all their IPs to the Embracer Group. Oh plus they just out right refuse to include non-white characters in Final Fantasy 16 now.

    I don’t think EA is “getting better” or anything it’s just had a significant less amount of controversies than SE lately.

    I still consider Ubisoft the worst of the three listed here.
    If you're a fan of Avatar like I am than what I'm about to say will come as no surprise, but it kinda sucks that there's never been a good Avatar video game.

    The Wii version of the very first Avatar game is a guilty pleasure for me I will admit, but it's still not a good game.

    Honestly, probably the closest any Avatar game has gotten to being good was the Legend of Korra game that Platinum made. But even that was kind of bland.
    Does anyone else here find the usefullness of Mario's Fireball Neutral B to be a bit questionable?

    I'm not saying the move should be replaced. It absolutely should stay but maybe upgrade it a bit?

    It might just be me, and there could very well be some flaws present in this mindset, but I feel like the Fireball isn't exactly a reliable move to use in a match.
    I gotta ask, was Miiverse ever all that great?

    That's a legitimate question. I had a couple bad experiences with some dumb trolls on it in the Wii U's first year and just kind of brushed it off as a result. Even in later years of the Wii U, I just never cared about giving it another shot.

    So since I have practically nothing in terms of experience with it, I'm curious if it was actually good, or if was another example of the kinds of people that can make social media a migraine.
    I’ve been playing video games for 27 years and despite how many times during those years that I’ve heard people complain about fetch quests, I still to this day don’t know what a fetch quest is.

    What can I say? I just never cared about looking it up.

    A fetch quest is a quest, sometimes mandatory, and sometimes optional that had you travel to one place to find an item and deliver it to another place, some people hate it becuase when done wrong you have to go on a wild goose chase to find the item and who to deliver it too

    Some fetch quests aren't so bad, like something simple, such as:
    "I'll need five gears to get this old machine running again. Could you find them for me?"
    ...Or they could be something much more tedious, like the following:
    "In order to brew the potion of plot advancement, you'll have to bring me ten ultra rare purple flowers, fifteen annoyingly skittish frogs, and twenty stingers from unreasonably overpowered giant scorpions (which only have a 5% drop rate for some reason). Good luck with that."
    With some of the stuff we’ve seen from Tears of the Kingdom. Like the new weapons for Riju, the Rito Champion being Tulin instead of Teba, and the new abilities with Links Arm, I have to wonder if Tears of the Kingdom will get its own Warriors game like Breath of the Wild did.

    Not 100% sure it will but I can at least say the idea has potential.
    Back when Tears of the Kingdom was first revealed, a number of people wondered if Zelda would be playable.

    Which is a fine idea, do not get me wrong. But it's always good to keep an open mind about these sort of unconfirmed things.

    Personally speaking, my mindset from day 1 was that a playable Zelda would be cool, but I was keeping in mind the possibility that she wouldn't be. And with all the stuff the trailers have revealed, I think it's a pretty safe bet that she will not be playable.

    Not saying that's a for sure thing, again, open mind, but I doubt it will happen at this point.

    And if there are any leaks out there that prove this theory right or wrong, please do not tell me.
    You think they’ll ever come out and say why Astor was never playable in Age of Calamity?

    Datamines really make it seem like he was planned to be and even without that, it honestly just feels super weird that he’s not playable.
    One of the reasons I like to try and complete games at 100% (or at full completion for games that go higher than 100%) is that it helps get the full experience of what the game has to offer.

    However............Crash 4.

    Haven't played it yet, but I've been made aware of how much of a pain it is to fully complete. So I kind of doubt I will try to do so if I ever play it, but at the same time I feel like I'd want to try do more than just complete the main story and be done with it.

    So out of sheer curiosity, what would you guys say is the best way to strike a balance between the two with Crash 4?
    I know there are quite a number of people online who have a disdain for EA. But that has been the case for a good while now and EA is still around and to my knowledge, still going strong. By which I mean there's not really any signs out there that they'll kick the bucket anytime soon.

    That's gotta mean they're doing something right doesn't it?
    My last post mentioned how Crash Tag Team Racing has a platforming overworld.

    Now I don’t know if this is still the case, but I know Tag Team Racing wasn’t viewed with positive reception when it came out.

    So for those who don’t view the game fondly (and anyone else who wants to answer) would Tag Team Racing have been better off as a platformer considering the overworld?

    Havent played the came since it came out but kind of remember it as more a mini game collection with an platforming hub world, the racing was terrible especially compared to its predecessors so i remember treating it more like an on rails shooter which was fine. That combined with all the available sub games made it feel closer to the spyro crossover than anything. I think cttr could have been better though with an actual focus & the platforming was arguably its best section.
    Despite being a Cart Racer, Crash Tag Team Racing had a platforming overworld set in an amusement park.

    Did you know that the game also has a cheat code that turns the heads of every resident of the park into chickens?

    And since the game lets you kill chickens, literally making them explode into nothing via the Spin Attack, this means that cheat code lets you decapitate everyone in the park.
    What I'm about to mention could very well be speculative gossip that people claimed was true back in the 2000's but never actually was, but I heard back then that there were plans to give each playable character in Diddy Kong Racing their own game like what Banjo and Conker got. Aside from Diddy of course since he already had one.

    Now let's assume that if Rare did end up going through with this, instead of just giving all of them a 3D Platformer they would only give about 1 or 2 of them a 3D Platformer (or none of of them would get one if you'd rather envision that) seeing as how Diddy, Banjo, and Conker already had the platformer genre covered (though Conker's Bad Fur Day doesn't exactly have typical platformer gameplay).

    With that in mind, what kinds of games do you think each of those characters would star in?
    My local Fred Meyer has one of those crane game machines installed.

    Yesterday it had a Sonic plushy inside that was oddly aurora colored for a Sonic Plush.

    It is a very common opinion that SpongeBob hit a major decline after season 3 and that one of the bad aspects of newer SpongeBob is how Mr. Krabs greed has turned him into a terrible person.

    But greed and an obsession with money have been character traits of his from day 1. Which is why I could understand it if someone were to seriously wonder if Mr. Krabs was ever good.

    In my opinion, yes, there was a time where despite his greed, Mr. Krabs was not a horrible person.

    However the only episode I can think of to use as an example is “Pickles”, and even then I think some would try to argue that he only helped SpongeBob find himself again so he could get his money making fry cook back.

    I personally do not believe this to be the case seeing as how he allowed Soongebob time off to gather his bearings, but back to the main point here.

    Are there any episodes aside from Pickles that show a good side of Mr. Krabs.
    In case anyone is unfamiliar with how the Tournament of Power works in Dragon Ball Super, you have 8 teams of 10 in a battle royale to knock all the members of every other team out of the ring, and the use of weapons and healing items is prohibted.

    However, Zen-oh, the supreme god of everything who governs the rules for the tournament, would actively allow the "no weapons and items" rule to be broken if he thought the technique that used it was cool.

    Which makes you wonder, 8 franchises with a playable character in Smash were to participate in a Tournament of Power styled battle royale, would characters like Link, Marth, and Cloud be ineligible to enter? Or would Zen-Oh allow them to break that rule and join because he's a fan of their games?
    If I had to choose a preference, I would rather keep non-video game characters out of Smash.

    That being said, if a couple of them were ever to become playable I wouldn’t hate it. I’d need some time to get used to it I’m sure. But if the character is fun to play then there’s no issue as far as I’m concerned.

    And if I didn’t find the character fun to play? Well that’s just my opinion. Others would enjoy the character and the decision to include the character would never have been mine to make anyway.
    Be it with malicious intent, or just to point out a coincidence, a number of people in the anime community notice traits of other anime characters in Asta from Black Clover.

    I've seen him compared to Naruto a couple times, Asta's dream is very similar to that of Luffy, and in my own opinion, I think his appearance has a similar aura to that of Natsu.

    So I wouldn't be surprised if Rock Lee is another character people compare Asta to given that they have the same trait of possessing a disability that prevents them from accessing the typical powers of their respective verses.

    But if you ask me, it would be more accurate to compare Asta to Toph Bei Fong in this regard. Yes, Lee does have the trope in question here, but he just uses something else in the place of what his disability prevents him from having. Toph on the other hand is the best user of Seismic Sense in history because she's blind. And given how much that enhances her overall Earthbending, Toph is the type to where her disability is also her greatest ability.

    Asta being capable of wielding the Five Leaf Clover Grimoire because he has no mana feels much more similar to Toph's Case.
    I have yet to see the Mario Movie. I know I want to, but I kind of agreed to see it with a friend so we need to wait for the right moment for our schedules to allow time for it.

    But I do want to know this. Without spoiling anything, what seems to be the more popular consensus about the movie? Like or Dislike?

    Critics have critiqued the shallow plot, but audiences seem to enjoy the movie's visuals and voicework. It's a pretty big divide.

    Nah the voicework is still pretty controversial with fans. Some people really hate it, some love it and many who are like "it's not that bad guys".

    What fans seem to be less divided on is that it's just a great tribute to the Mario series. There's a lot of fun references throughout. It was just fun to see the Mario Universe reimagined on the big screen, and at the end of the day that was meant to be the main draw anyway.
    One of things people who don’t like pineapple on pizza say against it is “Why would you put fruit on a pizza?!?!?!”

    To which people who do like pineapple on pizza counter with the fact that tomato sauce is a staple pizza ingredient and tomato is a fruit.

    Which has me curious. Do some people who don’t like pineapple on pizza try to claim that tomato is a vegetable in response to this?
    Every once in a while I check out a website called blockfort.com which is a site dedicated to making Top 10s in blog form.

No cheese, no sauce, no toppings, I only get the bread. And for those wondering, no, I am not lactose intolerant.
    Obvious statement is obvious. But there does exist a problem within bits of the online smash community of placing too much importance on movesets being as much of a 1:1 adaptation of the source material as possible.

    For example, I saw an idea once by the retired Smashtuber pizzadudemanguy of a concept for Marin from Link’s Awakening. Said concept pulled absolutely nothing from Marin’s moveset in Hyrule Warriors.

    Instead, it used the fact that Marin is a singer as inspiration for a moveset that used the abilities of songs from all over the Zelda catalog. Like the song of birds from Spirit Tracks as a recovery move.

    I think that’s a great idea. But it is the kind of idea that people might harp on because it doesn’t pull much from Marin’s “canon abilities”.

    Such a thing can be viewed upon with too much negativity. As the disdain out there for the Wario Waft and certain Final Smashes shows.

    There needs to be a good mix I think. I enjoy characters that have content that is pulled directly from that character’s properties. However, there are certain characters it just doesn’t work for. I see Waluigi as a good example where we can combine both new moves along with content lifted from source material. However, some characters just can’t be included in that way.

    Take Terry. You are a fool if you think that Terry could just get a few moves taken from his games and then call it a day. It works for some characters and it doesn’t work for others and having a creative balance the two are important. Dlc when heavy on the “content must be pulled from source material” and I’m fine with that as those characters generally benefitted from it to an extent.

    I really enjoy taking a look a character and try to work in how that character might be lifted from their home game and into Smash. It adds a realistic layer to it in my opinion. It adds authenticity to that character and shows the development team strived to keep that character as true to the original source as possible while making it work in Smash. To me, that is a more difficult job in the long run but one that eventually pays off.

    As Venus said, and as I’m sure you’re already aware, balance is key.

    There are plenty of moments where it’s a good idea, and in some ways and idea that should be done, to stay faithful to source material.

    It’s just not something that should always happen for absolutely everything.

    we also need to remember that many of the earlier Smash characters had content drawn from earlier versions of their series. They included content relevant to that time frame. Had Smash64 designed Link been scrapped for BoTW Link, we could have saw a Link who can craft items, utilities the Sheikah Slate, and has a durability mechanic. Thank god they didn’t go that route. Design philosophy has changed over the years (which tends to be a good thing as it avoids stagnation) and that design philosophy has changed to “let’s incorporate elements and mechanics found in this character’s home series” to be authentic and true to it. Not only to create an authentic and fun character but also to keep it true for that fans. As someone who has played FF/KoF a lot waaaay back in the day; seeing Terry and how he was designed was amazing. It felt like how I did when learning those techniques at the arcade.
    I have an embarrassing confession to make about the Spyro games.

    Now I have yet to play one, but I've been interested in doing so for a long time. And one of the first aspects of the series I learned about that appealed to me was the variety of elemental breaths. I've always loved multi-elemental abilities, so I thought it was pretty cool that these games had that kind of feature.

    I wasn't until much later on that I learned these elemental breaths debuted in Enter the Dragonfly and that the original trilogy didn't have them. They only had fire breath.

    That's the embarrassing part is that ended up being a bigger turn off for me then it ever should have been. And it kinda sorta didn't help that fire is my least favorite of the 4 elements.

    It took a number of mental shouts at myself that this isn't a big deal for me to realize it's not a problem.
    In Superstar Saga, Mario got the Firebrand ability and Luigi got the Thunderhand ability.

    Sure that was the only game where Luigi had Lightning Powers, but still, let’s say Wario and Waluigi got their own elemental hand abilities.

    What would their elements be?
    Did you guys know that despite being a character of manga origin, Natsu from Fairy Tail has a workaround to the video game characters only rule?

    The mangaka of Fairy Tail, Hiro Mashima, likes to reference his older works in his newer works. Like with how Elsie Crimson from Edens Zero is very similar in appearance to Erza Scarlet from Fairy Tail.

    And there’s a mobile game out there developed by Square Enix called Gate of Nightmares that Mashima was so involved in that it’s honestly more of a Hiro Mashima game that Square Enix just happened to develop.

    Gate of Nightmares has ended service, but during its run Mashima made a character for the game named Manatsu who is Natsu in everything but name.

    -They look pretty much exactly the same.
    -They have the same Voice Actor.
    -They are both Fire Element Melee fighters.
    -They are both Dragon Slayers

    Despite this, Manatsu is still a character designed for a video game. Therefore, he is of Video Game Origin.

    So there’s the workaround. Put Manatsu in Smash and you basically have Natsu in the game =P
