If Kamek and Shy Guy ever became playable in Smash Bros. would they have the series symbol and victory themes of the Mario series or the Yoshi series?

And if Mario in Kamek's case, would he actually be called Kamek or would he would be called Magikoopa?

I have a confession to make. The current roster of Fraymakers doesn't appeal to me.

I don't mean that from a stance of how they play. I haven't played Fraymakers so I can't judge that. I mean it in terms of being a fan of the characters and/or their source games.

No disrespect to anyone who is a fan of them. And the characters on the roster were McLeod's choices, not mine. But characters like Commander Video and Octodad come from games that just never interested me.

I'm sure they all play great, but from a standpoint of being a fan of the character, the only one I can really say applies to me in that way is Orcane. Though the Watcher at least has a cool appearance.

I wonder how giddy Earthbound fans would be if the spirit of Ness’s Father in Smash Ultimate actually revealed his canonical design instead of being the sprite of the phone.

I think it's a pretty common opinion out there that Shovel Knight has a fantastic moveset in Rivals of Aether. But I also doubt it's hard to find people who believe that Smash should NOT just use the exact same moveset for their own playable Shovel Knight.

Not just for "this copy/paste feels lazy and cheap" reasons either. Would Shovel's Knight Treasure Collecting mechanic in Rivals even flow well for Smash Bros?

Question for Rivals of Aether fans.

We all know that each character in the game, guest characters like Shovel Knight and Ori aside, are tied to one of the four elements in some way. But only in terms of inspiration for the characters concept. There's nothing like a type advantage/disadvantage present as a result of the elements.

But imagine if there actually was such a rock-paper-scissors type system in the game. How bad of a nightmare does that sound to you?

I used to play in Yu-gi-oh Tournaments at a local card shop. It's been a good while since I stopped, but I was into it long enough to be around for the first two archetypes released for the game that were inspired by other franchises.

Those being the Kozmo Archetype and the Dragon Maid Archetype.

The franchise that inspired the Dragon Maid Archetype is pretty obvious. Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. The Manga-ka of which even gave his approval for the Yu-gi-oh Archetype.

As for the Kozmo Archetype, the idea behind that one is basically "what if Star Wars met The Wizard of Oz?".

So Yu-gi-oh has at least those two archetypes based on other franchises. I wonder if any more have come out in the time I've been out of it.

Just finished the first world in Pizza Tower (Not at 100%)

Game is damn good so far.

I've opened Steam and have downloaded Pizza Tower. I'm about to boot the game up, but before I do here's a little trip down memory lane from me in regards to when the game was revealed.

Remember pizzadudemanguy? The Smash Moveset youtuber behind the "For Smash" series? Did movesets for characters like Yuri from Tales of Vesperia, Jason and Sophia from Blaster Master, and Miriam from Bloodstained?

I have a feeling this isn't common knowledge since I only ever saw him say it in his discord server, but he has said before that he would love to do a Peppino moveset video back when Pizza Tower was announced.

Of course, Pizza Tower only released a couple of days ago and PDMG's channel has been retired for much longer than that. For an extremely understandable reason mind you.

So he'll pretty much never actually make such a video. But it's a fun memory to look back on.

If there's any game I don't feel like I'm fair to, it's Team Sonic Racing.

I keep feeling like that game is just.....there. Soundtrack aside, it's not a game I've been able to feel invested in before.

Which is really weird because the game itself doesn't really do anything wrong to lead to that result. It's got some good courses, a nice roster of characters, and the story mode reminds me of all the single player challenges in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Which I got super invested in.

Yet I haven't really felt the mojo so to speak with Team Sonic Racing like I did for the two Sega All-Stars racers. And it honestly doesn't feel like it should be that way.

Does anyone else feel a little.......weird about Linkle's Story in Hyrule Warriors?

She's convinced that she's the Legendary Hero the entire game, but I feel like what they told of her story misses some of the potential of the fact that she's.....well....not the legendary hero. That's Link.

Yet the story never has a point where Link and Linkle meet, or any exploration of some soul searching she might do from finding out she's not the legendary hero, or if that compass of hers means she's a 2nd Legendary Hero somehow (they allude to this possibility a little bit, but they don't explore it enough for me to consider it a hard confirm).

Heck, Linkle never meets Zelda either. You'd think Zelda would grant her a spot in the Hylian Army or some other kind of reward for her help in saving Hyrule Castle. But when the game moves into the Wind Waker Storyline, which happens after the end of Linkle's Story, Linkle herself is nowhere to be found. She's not even mentioned.

Maybe I'm a little off base in thinking this, but I kind of feel like Linkle's Story in the first Hyrule Warriors was incomplete.

Persona 3's signature color was Blue.
Persona 4's was Yellow.
And Persona 5's was Red.

What will be the signature color of Persona 6? I usually envision Green or Purple myself.

As far as I know this doesn’t happen anymore, but the Sonic Series used to have an issue with annoyingly repeating a bunch of quotes.

“You Little!” “That looks like a homing shot!” “You know what they say, the more the merrier!”

But as infamous as these are, there is one quote like this that’s gone unknown to Sonic fans.

In the 3DS version of Sonic Generations, when you get to the final boss fight with the time eater (which BTW is the only part of the game the 3DS version does better than the console version) Eggman says “Take a look!” WAY too often.

Say the Yoshi that you get as a partner in Thousand Year Door started making more appearances where he would require a name. Like if he was playable in the next Mario Kart or something.

What name would they use for him?

Back when Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games was announced, but not yet released, the Sonic Wiki had a section about the series that talked about rivalries. Apparently the first game set up certain rivalries between specific pairs of characters. Like the obvious Mario and Sonic, but they also set up rivalries for Luigi and Shadow, Yoshi and Tails, and apparently Walugi and Eggman.

I forget which article it was exactly, but one of them mentioned how they didn't thing Donkey Kong would get along well with Vector since Vector is a Crocodile. Just like DK's archenemy of the Kremlings.

I could see the logic behind that, so I was left surprised when I played the DS version story mode and DK was actually super friendly to Vector when the two of them first met.

There was a fair bit of talk about Wario yesterday. Here’s some more.

So despite inspiration for the attack being present, as well as there being other games where Wario farts in a different way, the Wario Waft is still technically a move made up for Smash Bros.

And as far as I know there’s only one instance of Wario using the Waft in a game outside of Smash Bros.

And it’s arguably the weirdest game to be the one game in that category. It’s the DS version of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games.

There’s a point in the story mode where Wario has to defeat a chain chomp with the waft in order to progress.

It’s kind of weird how localization can be a mixed bag in terms of how much it affects a product.

On the one hand, you have situations like Tokyo Mirage Sessions where all the localization did was tone down the sexual content. Which is hardly a big deal.

But on the other hand you have situations where parts of a character’s portrayal can be left out in localizations. Which can cause a divide in the characters fans years later about how the character is “supposed” to be.

That exact thing happened with Wario. It’s not hard to find Wario fans who believe he used to just be macho and greedy and the potty humor was just some weird retcon they added later, but in reality Wario has always had a gross side to him. America just didn’t portray it at first.

An example being the Japanese instruction manuals for Wario Land 2 and Wario Land 4.

So, remember that orange cat from the Shrek movies? Has a rapier? Wears boots? Yeah you know who I’m talking about.

But I can’t actually say his name because Smashboards censors it. I saw someone suggest in response to this that we refer to him as “Piss in Boots” on Smashboards, but in my humble opinion that just sounds gross.

So I tried thinking of a different play on his name to use instead, and the only one I could think of was “Pus” in Boots. Which is arguably even worse.

So I will refer to this character by the boring, but at least not gross, name of Cat in Boots here on Smashboards.

Even to this day, looking back at how much certain Sonic Elitists from back in years like 2007 and 2008 really, REALLY hated Sonic 06 makes the fact that an even worse Sonic game (according to the seemingly general consensus anyway) was released later on feel super weird.

How far along has that reboot of Super Mario Bros. Z gotten?

I assumed for the longest time that only the first episode ever came out, but I saw some clips that I think are of later points in the story so now I don't know.

If Pokémon ever introduces a light type, one of the mons to get a type change will hands down be Necrozma.

Remember how the Xbox version of Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing had Banjo-Kazooie as a console exclusive character?

Here’s a weird thought. What if Sega made a Smash Bros Style Sega All Stars game and the exclusive character on the Nintendo Console was a Nintendo character who hasn’t been playable in Super Smash Bros before?

Back when Avatar The Last Airbender was still airing but hadn’t finished yet, two of the couples that a number of people were curious as to which of the two would be canon were Sokka and Suki, or Sukka, and Sokka and Toph, or Tokka.

Sukka was the one that became canon, but since there’s a brand of Vodka out there called Taaka, Tokka fans at least have the victory of having a real life cactus juice.

I remember a video game reviewer from back in either the late 2000’s or the early 2010’s who hated Soul Calibur 4 with a passion.

His reason was that new story modes are a big part of why he plays new entries in fighting game franchises he’s played before. So since he hated the story mode in SC4, he hated the game.

He acknowledged that the gameplay was good, but said that didn’t matter since it was the same gameplay as the first 3 games.

So I’d like to ask any Soul Calibur fans here, how off the mark was this guy with that claim about the gameplay?

I know the mindset of every fighting game in a franchise being exactly the same as the previous one is considered cringy because engines and mechanics and such change from game to game. So I’m sure he was the off the mark on this at least a little bit. I’m just curious how much.

A few posts back in my catalog, I talked about my lack of understanding of how Yugi could be used in vs. debating due to his monsters just being holograms.

Thanks to Zinith, I was able to figure how he could be used in them due to him making shadow games out of practically anything in the beginning of the manga.

That got me thinking that a good match-up might be Yami Yugi vs Light Yagami from Death Note, but upon further pondering, I think I’ve got an even better idea.

Remember this other cartoon that aired on Kids WB called Xiaolin Showdown? Almost the entire point of that show is competing for ancient artifacts in mystic competitions that turn the mundane into something extraordinary. Even something as simple as playing hopscotch on rocks can become an epic contest if it’s turned into a Xiaolin Showdown.

I think a character from that show could make a great matchup for Yami Yugi. I just don’t know which specific character it should be.

I know that in the Yu-gi-oh anime Yami Yugi became (or just was from the get-go) someone kindhearted. What I don’t know is if he became that way later on in the manga.

He definitely didn’t start out that way and I feel like the best choice for a Xiaolin Showdown opponent would depend on how dark his personality is.

Kindhearted at the end? Probably one of the heroes. Dark and Ruthless? Maybe someone like Chase Young.

Remember when the trailers for Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice were airing?

In case you don’t, they had an advertising slogan that said “What do you get when you mix Fire with Ice?” which a lot of people thought was really dumb.

A number of those people made jokes mocking the slogan. Probably the most common of which was pointing out how when you mix Fire and Ice, you get Water.

But out of all the jokes I saw that mocked that slogan, my favorite was this one.

“What do you get when you mix Fire and Ice? You get Steam. Where you can find better games than Sonic Boom.”

Remember that old 80's cartoon Captain N The Game Master? There are some people out there, like me, who can enjoy it out of nostalgia. But there are certain aspects that haven't aged well and some people actively dislike the cartoon because of this.

Some of the reasons include things along the lines general 80's cheesiness, Mega Man is green, Pit is named Kid Icarus, both Mega Man and Pit have annoying speech patterns, and Simon Belmont's personality is a joke in multiple senses of the word.

These reasons honestly make sense, but I have to confess, if anyone who is an avid metroid fan says that any of theses reasons are why they hate Captain N, I can't help but think they're lying.

Call it being a conspiracy theorist if you want, but if the Captain N hater in question is indeed a metroid fan, then I think they just state these reasons as a cover up because they don't want to admit that the only reason they hate it is that the Captain himself actually succeeded in dating in Samus in the comics.

There was this one discord server I was in once upon a time where there were two users that each displayed a notably high level of fandom for a certain game. In more pessimistic terms, they both acted a bit obsessive over their respective games.

One user did this for A Hat in Time, the other did it for Spelunky. So I made a bit of joke statement one time that basically went "Lord help our sanity if Death Battle ever does Hat Kid vs. the Spelunky Miner". And the owner of the server responded with "I think I might have to temporarily close the server if that happens".

Sometime later I felt like being cheeky. So with a "sorry-notsorry" apology to the server owner, I pinged the two users asking them which one they think would win in a fight.

To my surprise, both of them agreed on the same verdict. I don't remember which character they agreed upon as the victor though. I think it was Hat Kid but I'm not entirely sure.

I don't know if the rumors I've heard from time to time about a Shrek 5 were ever true. But if such a movie does ever come to be, the plot should be about Shrek tracking down those two noblemen he stole clothes from in Shrek 2 after becoming a human.

He said he would repay them someday unless he forgot. So what if one day he just randomly remembers and decides to find them and actually repay them.

That should be the plot of Shrek 5.

As far as I'm aware it has been a very long time since this has happened, but there do exist video game commercials that were banned from airing on TV for one reason or another.

Is there anyone here who actually saw any of these commercials on TV before they were banned?

I have. Back when I was in early middle school at the latest, I saw on TV a commercial for this Xbox game called Juiced.

I'm not sure how accurate the statement I'm about to make is. But I'm pretty sure that back when Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottom first came out, it received the same reception that cartoon based games typically do. You know, the whole mindset of it being a licensed game so it was just trying to make a quick buck instead of a being game with actual thought or care put into it's development?

Again, don't know if that was the common consensus about the game back in the Gamecube Era. But suffice to say it's not the common consensus now. The game is now viewed upon with enough fondness to where it received a remake that had a lot of people hyped. And said remake was successful enough to kickstart a brand new game with the same style. Cosmic Shake I think it was called?

And for a very long time my mind has associated Spongebob with the Fairly Oddparents as a sort of duo that consists of the top two nicktoons that go for it's more loose episode to episode approach (as opposed to something with a more connected plot like Avatar).

So once reception for Battle for Bikini Bottom started becoming more favorable, I began to wonder if the Fairly Oddparents game from the same time frame, Fairly Oddparents: Breakin Da Rules, was in fact the Fairly Oddparents equivalent to Battle for Bikini Bottom. Aka a game just brushed off back when it came out as being a licensed cash grab but in the modern day when the stigma against licensed games has lessened people are noticing it was actually pretty good all along.

I have yet to play Breakin Da Rules. So I don't completely have an answer. But from what little I've seen of people talking about it with the context of the current time frame, it doesn't seem like this is the case.

I'm not going to lie. It does feel a little weird that the Illumination Mario Movie convinced me to see it through it's animation when I know next to nothing about what kind of plot it's going for.

As far as I'm aware, Burgers are considered to be an American Food. Pizza I know for sure is an Italian Food. And there are a number of Mexican foods out there.

Why do I bring this up? Because there are mexican foods restaurants out there like Azteca that serve something called Mexican Pizza. Which is a pizza made with mexican ingredients. Like the crust is made from a tortilla. And there was this one time where I was reminded of that and my brain was stupid enough to think of an Italian Burger. Basically a burger with italian bread for the buns and a patty made out of ravioli meat.

But for a long time I couldn't figure out a dumb food idea to complete this little trifecta. Mexican Pizza is a food that's normally Italian but used Mexican ingredients. An Italian Burger is a food that's normally American but uses Italian ingredients. All that's left is a food that's normally Mexican that uses american ingredients.

Such an idea eluded me for a good while. But I think I've got something now. An American Taco. That would indeed have a couple ingredients that a normal taco has. Most notably cheese. Maybe certain vegetables here or there. But everything else would be more American style ingredients.

We're talking things like a Potato Chip shell filled with stuff like Bacon, French Fries, and Barbeque Sauce.

It's ok. you can hate me for thinking of this. I do too.

I remember a number of years back when I saw a few top 10 videos of games the uploader had played for the first time that year. Specifically videos that included Mario Party 9 as an entry.

One of the common praises for that game at this moment in time was how they appreciated how it gave all players a lot of potential for comebacks whereas with the old styled Mario Party's you could pretty much tell who was going to win in just a few turns.

At the time I saw these videos I had been out of the loop with Mario Party for quite some time. So I didn't really think much of this reasoning back then. But looking back on it now, especially with the existence of various Let's Plays of the classic style Mario Party's by channels like TheRunawayGuys (especially TRG's recent Mario Party DS LP) I kind of feel like this reasoning was a big pile of..................well smashboards censors swear words, so instead I'll just insult some Pokemon by saying that reasoning was a bunch of Trubbish and a pile of Muk.

I have no idea which members on this site have any remote interest in the idea of vs. debating. But as someone who likes to delve into that stuff a little bit, allow me to pose a question that I have not been able to find an answer to for a long time.

How the heck could you even do vs. debating with Yu-gi-oh characters? You'll see match-ups like Ash Ketchum vs. Yugi Moto brought up more than you might expect, but the duelists in Yu-gi-oh aren't actually summoners. They just use a device that projects holograms of artwork on trading cards.

Yes there are instances of monsters (and presumably spells and traps) being brought to life through certain means. I think Dark Games from the original can do that, Aki from 5D's had a psychic ability to bring her monsters to life and inflict real damage, and Arc-V introduced the real solid vision system which solidified the holograms.

But even then, the monsters don't have any detailed abilities for combat. When you look at something like Pokemon, you have examples like Pikachu, a creature that can conjure lightning, ram into opponents at high speed, or make his tail as hard as steel. And those aren't even the only examples.

Meanwhile the Dark Magician just uses magic energy blasts a couple of times. Magic energy blasts that don't have any specifics on what kinds of effects they could have on someone or how much damage they can dish out.

Which leads into another problem. Yu-gi-oh Monsters are featless. What do I mean by feats? I mean things like how Arceus can wipe out a decent sized landscape with his Judgment attack, or how Metalgreymon from Digimon has been documented as possesing power equal to a nuclear warhead.

Maybe there are 1 or 2 specifics exceptions here and there but for the most part monster cards in Yu-gi-oh don't have anything like that.

I figured out why Nintendo hasn’t released a new F-Zero game since F-Zero GX.

By the time that game came out, there were already 2 Mega Man Zero games released and the devs were quite proud of their work.

So they didn’t really appreciate Nintendo being mean to their main protagonist by releasing a game that said “F” Zero.

So they talked to Nintendo about this and the Big N was kind enough to agree to stop bullying Capcom’s character.
