The only thing Smash needs to do to appeal to all audiences at the same time is to make a competitively viable game then put items and funny stages in it. That's it really.

The only compliment I can give Bandana Dee from a design perspective is that he's recognisable in silhouette compared to his bare-headed enemy counterparts, but even then that requires the knot of his bandanna to be visible at all times, which is quite hard in a 3D setting.
They didn't even get the colour of the bandana right, orange and blue are a hideous combination.

Imagine seeing a roster with a plastic 80s toy robot; a silhouette man from calculator games who makes loud beeping noises; and a baby dinosaur piloting a clown head, and saying "yes, I want to play as Joker from Persona 5."
One way I could always recognise Smash leaks as fake in the Ultimate DLC cycle was as much as a passing reference to Spyro. Dude got it real rough in Japan, to the point where even if Smash were to try to cater solely to American fans he wouldn't be on the radar at all unless the games were outsourced.

We should start referring to game directors, at least those of major triple A releases, as just "the director of..." instead of their name so we, as a gaming culture, are more willing to criticise their games and listen to said criticism due to the "friend" factor being obscured - the director of Smash especially.
Whenever I see retro game collections or vintage store photos, my first instinct is to notice the obscure-for-a-reason and/or licensed games rather than the cult classics and legendarily rare games. You can have all the SNES holy grails - EarthBound; Chrono Trigger; Mega Man X3, and my first instinct will still be to gawk "Wow! is that Disney's Bonkers?"
Did J.N. Weidle ever get any Undertale royalties? Because I'd feel pretty scummy if I sold Smash Mii Costumes and dress-up dolls based on a parody of a small, obscure indie webcomic.
EDIT: Huh, turns out he actually worked on Undertale as Undyne's "fashion designer". Hope he saw that Sans merch dough.
Although it's certainly unintentional, the Scrimblo Bimblo discourse actually makes a really good point about Smash: there isn't enough overlap between fans of the series represented in Smash to be lumping them together so haphazardly - some people prefer anime swordfighters, and some people prefer scrimblo bimblos, and it's not fair to push one on fans of the other. SSBU's DLC should've considered differing tastes both for the character choices and the method of distribution.
The fact SSBU didn't fix its input delay (both online and offline) after 4 years of patches might be the most embarassing thing in Nintendo history. I'd probably continue to play SSBU alongside NASB if the offline input delay were fixed.
I've always liked the Kloak (coat) enemy from DKC2. Put him in Mario Kart.
I don't know why people are instantly assuming MS will fix the Acti problems like magic, but god am I glad to be able to discuss Crash without that breast-milk-thirsty elephant in the room again.

If a game with a multiversal setting has alternate character costumes, they should just go all the way and call them "counterparts" - an extremely simple linguistic change that does lots for world building.
2021 really was the year of "little anime boys who can noop surrounded by scrimblos", wasn't it? Just that one is surrounded by scrimblos in the source material while the other is surrounded by Scrimblos in the crossover.
I've always liked music from licensed games where they can't afford the real theme so they just tinker with the notes of the remix they already composed a little and get something legally distinct. I like the Phineas and Ferb one especially because if you quickly go from main menu to main game you won't even notice they used a substitue because the "104 days of summer vacation" portion is way closer to the real thing than the rest of the song.
Even NASB has a bit of this - the Loud House stage theme is a classic example of this trope, and the main theme has a very brief portion that sounds a little bit like the Nick-Nick-Nick acapella theme if you listen closely

I hope that Western-made Nintendo movies taking from obscure spin-off material like Detective Pikachu and Wrecking Crew will become a trend. Don't give me Samus without her relatable audience surroage buddy Joey, and make sure to have a B-plot in the Zelda movie about Tingle trying to get to Rupeeland.
I like the idea of a Waluigi game, but not of deepening the "Waluigi lore" or such. My favourite thing about Waluigi is how the ambiguity of his character - even by Mario standards - allows fans to create their own interpretation of Waluigi's life and off-court personality.
Making the Koopalings alts in Mario Kart like Yoshi's colours is good for creation threads where characters are added one by one, but not really reasonable for an actual game - it could be done, and has been done in Smash, but probably isn't preferable to animating and sizing each one uniquely in a game where characters are primarily cosmetic as is
