Nintendo are really good at laying the groundwork for multiplayer genres, but absolutely terrible at improving their multiplayer IPs through sequels.

Crash in Smash would be cool and all, but Crash would also be the perfect IP to base a dedicated platform fighter on. One of the most expansive, creative, and lovably evil rogues galleries in gaming history shouldn't just be sidelined to cameos and Assist Trophies.

I feel level skips in Mario games (and platformers in general) are a weird holdover from the time before save files. Before save files, you wanted to get the least out of a game and beat it quick; but now we live in an age where save files are common and you want to get the most out of a game - leaving level skips as more an unfortunate discovery than a magical secret.

It's so weird how Mario characters tend to be more fluidly animated in Happy Meal/board game ads than their own games. I assume it's because those ads are outsourced to American studios, and American cartoons tend to focus on fluid movement with simple objects while Japanese anime prefers to get the most out of a smaller amount of frames.

Continuing this thread about how crossovers and references in games could be handled differently, I love the idea of a one-on-one crossover instead of a multi-IP megacrossover - I remember when the SpongeBob Cosmic Shake teaser image was posted I thought it was teasing a crossover with Invader Zim. There's this blob thing that, in the final image, is revealed to be a portal with a big zipper but without full context looks like a piece of Irken archetecture.

It would make sense IMO - if you narrow down Nick's biggest IPs next to SpongeBob, Zim would likely be the best choice for a one-to-one crossover. Loud House, Garfield, and Rugrats don't have worlds that lend themselves well to games; Ren & Stimpy doesn't really have a world at all, just two characters who do anything and go anywhere as long as it's funny; Avatar and to a lesser extent Turtles would be too serious and make SpongeBob feel out of place less in a "fish out of water" sense and more "fish in a chip shop" sense; FOP and Jimmy Neutron have worlds that are to an extent too similar to SpongeBob's and therefore wouldn't have a good juxtaposition factor; and then Zim is an IP that could play off SpongeBob in a comical way, being dark and bruding to juxtapose happy go lucky SpongeBob against, but also a series with loud and silly humour that SpongeBob would fit well into, as well as a unique world both on Irk and Earth to explore in a collectathon setting.

Even though I don't like the idea of Nintendo Kart, as is known by now, I thought it'd be an interesting challenge to do a Nintendo Kart roster that would be aimed at Mario Kart's actual target audience, with minimal aesthetic/tonal clash; a focus on franchises familiar to casual fans; and lesser-known characters prioritising distinct, expressive designs.

I feel Smash Ultimate, Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Brawlhalla among others have unintentionally fostered a very negative "slippery slope" attitude towards guest characters in games, one even I'm guilty of falling for. There's this kind of persisting worry that if a game adds more than two or so guests it's gonna become a ridiculous crossover palooza - you just have to look at NASB fandom reactions when Goku is brought up to see this. Doesn't help that you've also got the other side calling for ridiculous crossover paloozas (Nintendo Kart, anyone?) further muddying the difference between guest characters and a shifted focus.

This is the sort of content I live for.

Put the "mass" back in Christmas. Buy a bunch of useless Hawkin's Bazaar junk, don't use it, refuse to sell it, go bankrupt, and get thrown into the streets - then just sing a happy Latin song like in the Grinch and pretend the problem will fix itself, content with your mass of novelty gifts.

Honestly, I'm probably not going back to SSBU any time soon. Every time I've played it after NASB it's rapidly become less fun. I'll take 20 well designed if samey characters over 80 undeniably unique but inconsistent-quality characters any day - I say this as a casual player too.

From the clips I've seen, Amphibia doesn't really strike me as appealing - comes off as a little too edgy with a way-too-chaotic sense of humour for my liking... that being said, I respect any show that implies a shared universe with both Wallace & Gromit and EarthBound.
