Here's the keys - represent [INSERT SERIES HERE] in Super Smash Bros!

Given the massive amount of creativity that's come about in the Here's the keys - make a crossover fighter with [INSERT IP HERE] thread (in part due to its open-endedness!), I felt it'd be a good idea to try something with a similar setup inspired by a recent profile post... but completely different in its goals!

In this scenario, you're handed complete creative control over a single franchise or series in Super Smash Bros. (whether this be a past or future game, a new series altogether or reworking an old one.) Now, you only get the one series - but, you can control any elements of it, including fighters, stages, music, items, collectables (such as Spirits, Trophies or Stickers if they apply!), and all kinds of other things that take your fancy. Hell, if you wanna take on a completely different platfighter (ie, MultiVersus, NASB, Fraymakers and so forth), go right ahead!

So... how would you handle this? Would you want to rewrite the book on older franchises, or bring fresh new blood into the series? I'd love to see your ideas!

As an example, I'll take a crack at a series I think would make a lot of sense in the Smash series, even if it's not for the reasons you might expect!

Series Name: Picross
First Game?: Mario's Picross (1995, Game Boy)

Picross is in an interesting state when it comes to a discussion like this. A long-running puzzle series that focuses on the use of nonograms to create pictures (hence, Picture Cross, or Picross!), it's developed externally by Jupiter, though the Picross name is owned by Nintendo. Ever since the first game - Mario's Picross - the series has seen a large number of games, including the Picross NP series on SNES, the relaunch in 2007 with Picross DS, and even the pretty popular eShop-exclusive Picross e and Picross S series on the 3DS and Switch platforms! But, how do you effectively represent a series of laid-back puzzle games in a series like Super Smash Bros.? Well, not with a fighter - but with other things entirely!

First - I think, as a series, we could handle it a bit like Pilotwings. It's considered its own series, has its own icon, and has content in the game that isn't just considered "Other" - but, it's sort of part of the "Other" crowd in that sense. With that in mind...

This one was pretty easy - it's just the logo that's been used in the Picross S series for Nintendo Switch! Also, isn't it funny how the squares almost look like a "P", coupled with a cross? I just think it's a neat visual.

Stage?: Picross's stage - simply named Picross - would maintain the fairly simplistic appearance of stages like Pictochat, but with a pretty unique gimmick. Taking place on a mostly empty grid with a few squares on to start with, the grid is slowly filled over time with squares and crosses, extending the playable field outward over time. However, unlike the original game, these ones don't turn into an image once "completed" - instead, the stage will change, a few more blocks will be put down, and it'll change. Does this sound like hell to play on? Yes! But it'll be fun, shh.

Music?: Whilst Picross's music would be put in the "Other" section, I think we'd be justified in adding a few tracks from throughout the series. Now, a lot of Picross's music is more laid-back, but I think there's more than enough music from the series that'd be fitting for Super Smash Bros. Let's take a look!

So, yeah! A smaller breadth of representation overall, but I think Picross is a good example of exactly what's possible. I'd love to see your thoughts!

Pizza Tower

Fighters

• Peppino - Main protagonist - kind of a shoein for this sort of thing.
• The Noise - While not the main antagonist, he's a standout among the already super unique cast. He'd be like the Luigi to Peppino's Mario - Clearly born from the same mold and having some similar moves, but very different from each other in key ways.
• The Vigilante - I just think he's neat. Completely unique character.

Assist Trophy

• Pizzaface - The main antagonist. Flies around and tries to ram into fighters ala his boss fight. Think of it like the Metroid Assist Trophy, but bigger and lacking a grab.

Stage

• Pizzascape - Taller than it is wider, but also not as expansive as Temple (either of them). John Blocks serve as some of the soft platforms, but get deactivated once a player is on their last stock or a minute remains in the match.

Items

• Shotgun - Replaces the fighter's jab and neutral air with a low-range, but very fast/strong shotgun blast. Lasts for five uses.
• Pizza Cutter Buzzsaw - Replaces the fighter's Forward Smash with a chargable dash with the buzzsaw.The longer the move is charged, the further the fighter travels.

What does the boss do?

• Magician will zip around the stage and use one of two attacks twice before following up with a random secondary attack.
  • Fireball: Magician shoots two fireballs from one hand
  • Fire Claw: Magician zips around three times before before swiping with his claw on fire
• Fire Shot: Magician shoots a string of fireballs from one hand, aiming wherever the player is.
• Fire Cage: Magician shoots a fireball from each hand that turn into pillars, which he then uses to trap the player.
• Ring of Fire: Magician surrounds himself with multiple fireballs and slowly floats towards the player. After a while, fireballs slowly drift off on their own and home in on the player. The fireballs can be put out by attacking them.
• Rush: Magician surrounds himself in fire and swoops towards the opposite side of the stage.
• Fire Star: Magician twirls around enveloped in fire before charging at the player. He does this attack three times.
• Bullet of Death: Magician fires a homing shot ending with a deadly explosion upon contact.
• Meteorain: Magician hurls several fireballs into the sky, after which they come crashing down like meteors. Magician is offscreen during this attack and reappears after it’s finished.
• Fire Bomber: Magician prepares a mini-sun above his head and throws it to the ground, creating a shockwave.
• Fire Pillars: Magician zips into the background and throws a few fireballs into the air with both hands, which then turn into fire pillars upon hitting the ground.
• Fire Tornado: Magician turns several fireballs into a tornado that sucks the player in.
• Pandora’s Box: Magician zips into the background and summons a cube-like object close to his hand. Suddenly, two tubes containing clones of him rise up and open, and the clones shoot searing lasers that travel across the ground.
