I think we need a name for stuff like NASB and Cadence of Hyrule - "mainstream game" would be an utter lie, as would "indie game" - it's right in the middle of two concepts so far apart they may as well have circled the globe and ended up next to each other.
I saw the title of the "Fortnite X Universal Monsters" trailer with no thumbnail and misread it as "Fortnite X Monsters University". My sole thought was "why not regular Monsters Inc?"
Even though there's no proof the term "chinese whispers" had offensive origins AFAIK, I prefer "purple monkey dishwasher" because 1. there's no potential to offend, and 2. haha funny simpson (it's also more interesting than "telephone game")
Sad to see NASB hype die so quickly, but I'm absolutely not gonna go doomer mode - there'll at least be a short rise in interest once Garfield and items drop, and come Christmas servers will be packed. Additionally, I think this game will no doubt thrive as a competitive game - not a Smash killer or even a Rivals killer, but a fun side event held up by devoted players and casual spectators there for novelty. I don't AT ALL believe Shreds and the Garf will be the end of content for the game either.
If I was tasked with making Smash a "celebration of gaming", here's what I'd make. Roster in order of when I decided to add them for the most part.

I love how all the Toy Story references we've seen in Lightyear are super subtle - I didn't catch any of them myself and most of the ones I've read originate from throwback quotes or background details.

I made this quick box art for if the next Smash actually devoted to a "gaming history celebration" and brought back the Smash 64 aesthetic.
Calling the game Smash 7 would likely start a few wars.
Also I just realised I forgot to put a Pokémon on the box art.
This is one of the worst trailers I've seen - albeit more personally and not because I think it's low quality. I really dislike that pastel lo-fi aesthetic and dating digital versions of real people in a biopic game is icky. Shame to see people use it as a way to justify transphobia/racism though

The music on the State of Play countdown is so harrowing. This is "you are now a vilomah by your own hand" music, not "yooooooo! new Calla' Duty teaser just dropped!" music.
I generally don't like shill picks for recent releases, but I'm all for Parker the Cloud (Middlemost Post) in Nick Brawl. Given how Nick corporate can act their new shows need all the help they can get; and Parker could be really fun as a small shapeshifter with weather powers and mail delivery-themed moves - also I really like the design of Angus. (guy on the left)
Min Min would be greatly improved from a design perspective by 1. just making her spring arms intangible and 2. not doing... this.

If game design doesn't work out for me, TV animation would probably be my plan B. Whatever show I make or work on, it's gonna have an episode like this.
Continuihg off CoH's "Ultimate lacks focus" status, I decided to categorise how I see the newcomer roster as "celebration" - it's more balanced than I expected, though some characters like Min Min and Byleth I couldn't find any category for. Funny how "gaming history" is the smallest though, (I did consider putting in K. Rool given how much of a landmark title DKC was, but considering a lot of if not most players probably never saw him due to a lack of an exposition cutscene and his ominous manual silhouette... not sure he counts. If Covid and ACNH happened before SSBU Isabelle would be in history easy.)

I can't believe Roblox moderation prediced FNF
I have this weird quirk where if I say something with a certain amount of syllables, I'll then hear it in my mind with the exact delivery of some specific quote from a cartoon, video, or movie I watched as a kid. "Now those are cookie robots" from Despicable Me pops up a lot.

If Multiversus is indeed a bad F2P game a la Brawlhalla, there is still something related to it to be hyped about: the initial leak stated multiple major game studios were working on their own platform fighters. Even if those games also end up being bad, more platfighters is good news - loosening Nintendo's monopoly and providing more titles for devs to learn from is a miracle.
