Smash 64 had the best Smash aesthetic IMO. When I think "video game characters beating the snot out of each other" I imagine a wild, exaggerated wrestling match being broadcast to millions, not a tearful song about the inevitability of death or Latin chants about legendary warriors.
I like Melee and Brawl's aesthetics detached from their source material, 3DS/Wii U had a good aesthetic that did a decent job tracing to Smash's roots but IMO didn't go far enough, and Ultimate's aesthetic just feels lifeless and corporate.
