I fail to see how it’s wacky unless our perceptions of wacky are different. Netflix was founded in 1997 as a rentable DVD by mail company (which is something I did do back then). I see nothing perculiar about that.

Well, I find it ebic and wacky because we associate Netflix with the digital age (same with Nickelodeon and 90s kid-culture, or the Mega Drive and 90s tude) so it's a little weird to see they started way earlier than their rise to cultural prominence.
