  • I can understand saying "That'd be marketing suicide!" to say why something won't happen, but not to say something shouldn't happen. "Marketing suicide" is exactly what we as consumers should want. Risk-taking, focus group-condemned content made out of passion for what the creators love, not to sell game copies or film tickets.
    NintendoLife released these mock-ups of NSO Game Boy... and oh god, this pitifully lazy.


    How such simple images can have so many flaws is beyond me. The more you look at that second image the worse it gets - varying saturation from different prints, Pokémon Yellow being placed under Game Boy instead of GBC, the HUD overlap, a two-player option that would at best be inconvenient on Switch, an online option existing at all for a console that's multiplayer almost always relied on two people being able to see one another's screens, Final Fantasy Legend using PAL box art... Not bad as a fun mockup for r/NintendoSwitch, but not what I want to see from a professional gaming news site.

    Yeah, not to mention that NSO games are never lined up that neatly. Usually they get smaller towards the bottom and never take up the same amount of space for every single game.
    Even though a billion bucks if not more says it's a coincidence, the timing of Nick Brawl being revealed right as Smash fans were getting disillusioned at the over-animefied DLC and the Scrimblo Bimblo drama was reaching a breaking point was absolutely perfect for both fans and the Nick Brawl devs. I've certainly seen a lot less Scrimblo discourse since it was announced.
    I've always found the classification of Simpsons as an "adult cartoon" a little questionable.

    Not because it has historically been marketed to kids, nor because Ren & Stimpy and Rocko were getting away with way worse on daytime Nickelodeon at the same time (though both are factors), but rather because the show's adult themes are usually mentioned in passing or alluded to but not shown, which is pretty much the same amount of exposure an average real world kid would have to such themes. Plus in the age of streaming and parent review sites it's a lot easier now to filter out the very few episodes that do heavily center around innapropriate or risque themes. In fact I'd argue satirical humour like The Simpsons to be important to teenage development, as it teaches us to question both authority and our peers.

    CommonSenseMedia's ages 10+ rating seems on the money, though you could make an argument for a more Lisa-liberal 8+ or a more Flanders-conservative 12+ - though if you agrue anything under 7 or over 13 you're making a Klown out of yourself.
    On the Infinite thread we recently did a job to add posters for a customisable house in story mode...

    and I must say, my posters certainly stick out a sore thumb - most of them are super cool and epic, you know, things people would actually want on their wall, like these:

    I am absolutely cherry-picking both sides of the coin, I submitted some epic gamer posters and other users submitted cringe baby meme posters, but most of the cringe baby memes were on me.

    I was thinking about fake Pokémon types, and a joke about "Milk Type" quicky evolved into me realising a Dairy Type or Cattle Type would pretty cool. Not sure what strengths and weaknesses it'd have though.
    As much as I want PaRappa in Smash, I can't help but fear that Rhythm Heaven fans would be distraught over the hip hop hero getting in given he is the same genre and has an extremely similar aesthetic to Nintendo's in-house franchise.

    First party purists and console war kids would be upset for the same reason, but no sympathy there.
    Everything about this game is hilarious to me

    1. TPC's scheme of monetising Pokémon organisation dates back to the series' lowest point in popularity
    2. They had the guts to put it on GameCube instead of GBA or even PC - the latter of which Pokémon was no stranger to at the time
    3. They created an original character for this game who has appeared in later games and the manga
    4. There's a giant disclaimer explaining the billions of junk needed to play it
    5. There is no explicit "this is not a game" disclaimer on the box (I checked the blurb)
    6. They could've easily bundled this with Pokémon Channel, but they didn't.
    7. They called it Pokémon BOX.

    The most hilarious thing is people these days are unironically willing to buy into the scam this "game" was selling.

    Imagine having every past monster all in a single with free DLC.

    I actually haven't heard of this Pokemon Storage version for the Gamecube. (Which was true since back then I was still a noob to the series and that wasn't advertised much.) I may try to hunt for one later as I still hold GBA copy of Sapphire and other past GBA pokemon titles

    I'm pretty sure Box only really allows transfer between the Colosseum/XD games and Gen 3, Gen 3 to 4 transfer is a simple process









    Bowser Jr. in Smash is so weird, because his moveset has less to do with Bowser Jr. himself than Ganondorf's does to him, but in terms of design and animations he is quite possibly the most source-accurate Mario rep - honestly that's how I prefer a Smash character, the moves don't need to be directly lifted from the source, they just need to behave how that character should and use moves it'd make sense for that character to use, regardless of if they actually do in canon.
    The Hello Kitty Monkey Ball DLC would've been worth the price if they stuck on My Melody or Badtz Maru along with her.

    To be frank I don't think $5 is that overpriced to play as Hello Kitty given she has her own animations, we've just been spoiled by other games' compartively cheap cosmetic DLC - especially ones with more expensive non-cosmetic DLC alongside cosmetic content.

    I absolutely hate when sites like NintendoLife, Kotaku, e.t.c. report on fangames - surely they know by now this will get Nintendo on their tail? Freedom of press includes the freedom to stay silent, you know.

    Hell, whenever a potential leak pops up they hide it and tell users to find the leaks themselves if they want to see, you can at least do that with fangames, right? Frankly I hope this is active malice because pure idiocy is way more frustrating.
    One mentality people (especially outsiders not interested in the game or Nick as a whole) are having about Nick Brawl that's really annoying me is "It should just be Avatar" or "Avatar is objectively the best Nick IP".

    About that last quote, yes, Avatar tells a deeper story with deeper themes, a more vast world, and higher emotion than any other Nick show - but does that inherently have more value than just being funny? Different people get different things out of media, and as long as it's well done a silly comedy about a hairless dog screaming into a fat cat's ears is just as worthy of "art" status as an epic tale about elemental warriors

    Every time Bandana Waddle Dee discourse pops up it often seems like people on both sides don't understand that "Goomba in a hat" isn't a critcism of Bandana Waddle Dee as a character or a Smash fighter, but rather as a character design.

    The fact that he is the highest ranked member of Dedede's army or has a unique spear moveset, for many people (myself included), does not negate how HAL took an inherently emotionless design for a disposable enemy, gave it a weapon, and called it a day without as much as a unique face. It can go both ways of course, some people may consider BWD's design as being in a vacuum while his
    personality and/or powers take center stage, which is a valid position to have, but also one you need to be honest about when talking about such a divisive character.

    For example, I'm a huge Waluigi supporter, but I don't want Waluigi for his canon powers - air swimming, moonwalking, and vine creation aren't exactly striking fighter moves IMO - I want him for his personality and how that could shape his moveset as a result. When you argue in favour of a character you shouldn't try to prove every "criteria", you should just prove your character's strongest strengths and hope those can outweigh other concerns, otherwise you'll make yourself look like a fool explaining how Golden Sun changed the gaming industry forever or Crash Bandicoot is a more important part of Nintendo's history than Sony's.

    For Steve most of the problems and concerns people had with him as a Smash fighter came true - next to no music, stiff animations, out of place aesthetic, lack of personality - but Steve's strongest qualities negated every single one of those issues to the point nobody really complained. A similar story can be told about Ridley, "too big" turned out to be a pretty accurate assumption as Ridley ended up looking really weird when shrunk, even with him being bigger than his terrible posture lets on - however, they made that cold and cunning brutality come off so well that it's hard to complain about his depiction, even if you were strictly opposed to Ridley beforehand. In a way Smash speculation is like Smash itself - no character is without weaknesses and some characters even have more weaknesses than strengths, but it's the quality of those strengths - not the quantity of strengths a character has or what their strength-to-weakness-ratio is - that puts a character on top.

    It's OK to want a character in Smash or criticise those who oppose them, but with that it's also OK to not want a character in Smash or criticise their fans - even if it's a character you like outside of the context of Smash. Nobody wants an echo chamber where "they're cool and popular" is the full extent of Smash roster discussion and concerns or complaints about both past and future characters, even ones you like, becomes taboo. Negativity, criticism and dissapointment are all essential parts of the human experience, and if we supress it to "be more hype" or "let people dream" we're not gonna have a more welcoming or inclusive community, we're gonna have a creepy self-assuring hivemind slaving away to make honey for Queen Doomguy.

I'm not saying "we gotta be inclusive!", I'm saying "there are no objective good requests, criticising potential newcomers or the ways people support them is good, and so is openly acknowledging the downfalls of your most wanted - especially if they're a popular request."

    Ultra Instinct Shaggy has been acknowledged by Warner Bros. before, but now he's been animated for an actual movie. (albeit a D2DVD Mortal Kombat movie)

    Hot take: Crash 3's vehicle levels are bad, but the power-ups (bazooka especially) are the real worst game design choice of not just Warped but also the entire Crash platformer lineage - that includes WoC through MoM.
