I'm not offended, I even said it was accidental. Sure, this stuff should've never passed QA but it was 100% not done out of malice.

I see Dee Jay not because 'hur hurr black pplz is monke' but because Dee Jay is a very animated fighter involving flips and kicks. Mr. Sandman and DK is reference to DK appearing in Punch Out on the Wii, plus he fits the physical size comparison and has a big punch. Fits. And I don't see the racism/transphobia with Game and Watch, in all honesty.

But this is surely just my white privelage speaking and couldn't possibly be me not looking for racism everywhere I look.

In the case of Vivian, it's her being represented by a character specifically named "Mr."

I'm not trying to start a conflict or even a dialgoue here, I'm just pointing out some unfortunate implications for the sake of awkward comedy. That's it.

But is that 'transphobia' or just because the devs felt, for whatever reason, G&W fit as a placeholder for a character that isn't even in the game? Maybe they could have used Zelda or something. I don't know. But I don't get it being transphobic just because the character has Mr in his title. Seems a HUGE stretch. You'd need evidence they did it specifically to give the proverbial finger to Vivian because of the characters trans status or did so to specifically insult/upset trans folks. Which there isn't any to my knowledge.

I'm not crying malice here, in fact I'm saying the exact opposite, that it's just an unfortunate coincidence - you don't need to break out the paragraph. The spirits aren't racist nor transphobic, just poorly thought out at worst.

Don't 'long man bad' me :/ And I'm not insinuating you are crying malice. And I could agree it's just an 'unfortunate coincidence' but it's just that. Coincidence. Not racism. Not transphobia. Though I don't know if I DO agree because the characters incidentally coincide with the spirits they're representing in some manner. Upon second look Game & Watch would fit Vivian in so much that she comes from a game with 2D characters, which G&W is also. So referencing that aspect, nothing to do with gender. Same with Sandman/Dee Jay. Nothing to do with black people = monke but they reference the games themselves or fit the combat style to some degree. As best they can, all things considered.
