I'm not Japanese so I wouldn't know, but I can't help but think that the Emio teaser being for Famicom Detective Club probably wasn't that out-of-left-field to the Japan audience. If Nintendo released a cryptic video of a tank, we as Westerners probably wouldn't be too surprised if it turned out to be Advance Wars instead of a Nintendo take on COD.

Since I was talking about green furry characters in Fortnite yesterday, it is genuinely baffling to me that Jazz Jackrabbit still isn't in Fortnite as a skin. It's not the most recognisable IP, but it also probably wouldn't cost a cent to use and fits perfectly with both Fortnite's sci-fi lasers theme and its heavy amount of anthro characters.
It's weird how people talk about multiplayer games that aren't the Current Hot Thing in past tense as if they just... randomly disappeared or something.

The reason why Goldeen appears in Smash instead of Magikarp is because both of the edgy Smash story modes would not have any conflict whatsoever if Magikarp existed in the Smash universe. All 3 eldritch abominations would be dead by the time Cranky Kong was born with even one Magikarp around, let alone a whole species.

I just spent... about half a minute... convinced I was insane because I couldn't find proof that a Grinch Fortnite collab I vividly remembered happening ever happened.

If Sakurai was based and added this guy to Smash (or if they made any other appearance in a Nintendo game), their in-game name should be "Who Are You Running From?" because, let's be frank, if anyone was to have an ominous, 6-syllable question as their legal first name, it'd be them.
I think it is partially true that Smash fans live in a bubble, but I also think it's just as true that Smash fans have an irrational fear of being seen as "biased" so they create weird unnecessary excuses to make their opinions look objective, and that's how you get ridiculous takes like "Geno is more important than Waluigi" or "Pac-Man World 2 is the most iconic Pac-Man game"
Like most things with Smash fandom, this is a pretty clear symptom of how Smash treats itself with seriousness, and makes roster decisions based on objective factors like sales; fan demand; recency; importance in their source game; e.t.c. instead of dev opinions.

I don't get why the Smash Wiki calls franchises "universes" - I don't come to the Smash Wiki for immersion, god damn it!
I think that people who say "every character is someone's favourite! <3", from my personal experience, have always been the most stubbornly against character ideas that are against-the-grain.
Let's be frank, that phrase isn't usually used as a statement to say that all character picks are valid or what have you, it's just moralising that is basically only used in the context of character cuts, which, considering development issues, are more moral than bringing back every character every time.

I will never understand why fighting game fans get so upset at the prospect of playing as a character for functionality and not the actual character. Like, creative decisions being influenced by such a mentality I kinda get being upset at, but strongly disagree, but being upset at an individual player?? Where's the logic in that?

I've been submitting a lot of games to IGDB lately, usually I've been lazing out on the box arts, just taking a screenshot of a title screen or using a YouTube thumbnail and calling it a day (most of these submissions are of fangames, ROM hacks, flash games, bootlegs, e.t.c. - stuff that typically goes without box art - since those are the only games not on there already) - but I felt like making a custom poster for one specific submission (probably the one game I was most surprised by the absence of given its infamy) and I think I've created a poster that goes very hard. Jurassic Park/Mortal Kombat vibes.
Nintendo's retro game preservation is a really weird Russian roulette of just how much they devote. Like, obviously, all of Nintendo's emulation bases have been historically worse both in features and performance than emulator offerings at the time, that's no surprise, but on a game-to-game basis, you're dice rolling between A. perfect digital replications of Blockbuster Pokemon Snap and StarTropics water paper, and complete E-Reader level sets for SMB3 Advance; or B. Mario Tennis with half of the characters unavaliable; Super Game Boy-coloured games in strictly monochrome; and an entirely rental-driven Pokemon Stadium meta.
If anything has the right to do evil Mickey/Pooh (in the sense of "would it be a good idea", not legally), it is Shrek 5.

G-Force is the movie that made me realise movies can be bad, I think I've said this before, but Bee Movie was the first movie that made me realise movies can be entertaining but have extremely annoying flaws, which might be even more depressing.
(for reference, that flaw was Honex saying they'll "work Barry to death" but Barry and Adam working for them being the happy ending)
ok but actually what was up with rayman in the ice - how do you get such a close proximity by accident while also having that same character present in the game. surely someone at some point had to have said "hey, look, that abstract frozen fire texture kinda looks like rayman struggling to escape"
I like how the DuckTales reboot basically built an entire season's story arc out of wanting to use a cool 80s game song.
I recently found out that Disney owns the cartoon "Crusader Rabbit", the literal first television cartoon, through Fox and apparently they just... don't know, or at least don't care? It's not on Disney+, and the only time Disney has ever used him was as a Funko Pop in 2020, probably a pre-buyout holdover. Like, wouldn't that be the perfect character for Disney to use for pre-nostalgia-zone merch aimed at history buffs like they do Oswald and, in the parks, Gertie the Dinosaur?
