the whole idea of 2.0 is worrying to me
instead of changing their moves, why not give them a buff, etc?

if it's better then melee, if my friends all switch to playing it, if the tournaments are bigger more numerous and more often and have more people involved in it then melee then i would might probably play project M

I honestly cannot see Project M ever being anything other than a gimmick. Melee4life.

Trailer was hype but Brawl character designs are sooo ugly.
The footage used in the trailer is currently outdated. Trust me....I made it.... >_>.

Also I'd like to apologize for being a **** lately. I'm just mad because I didn't make it out of pools at APEX.

sadly...it won't be replacing anything, its stil a hack, no matter how good it is, it won't be able to replace either brawl(dear god why the hell has this crap game lasted this long...) or melee, most folks don't want to go through all of the trouble you have to go through to run these hacked vers. of lolbrawl.

it'll still hold some side tournaments, much like b+ has....

but in the end....just cuz its a hack, it sadly won't be replacing anythign..

I have a feeling it'll have side tournies at both brawl and melee events (where b+ is probably primarily only at brawl events). The only reasons it will never replace melee is cuz a) it's only on wii and b) you actually have to have an SD card which means spending more money than what a default setup has. If it could be downloaded directly to the wii without any external hardware and very little effort required, then there is no reason it doesn't have a shot. People who play consoles are too lazy to actually download stuff. Counterstrike requires you to download maps and an anti-cheat client to play competitively, and I'm sure other games do as well. Hell, even Halo has a map expansion. If it's good enough, people WILL download.

I'll prolly play it if people at my dorm or something are playing. But i doubt it will go past that. Like others have stated i cant really get into it because it was a hacked version of a game. Im sure project M will do fine in states like nc and ga or cali where theres a dense population of smashers. But in other states where its hard to have a consistant scene in melee or brawl. I doubt people will take that extra step for a hack

what people are failing to realize is that all you have to do to play project m is put a few files on your sd card and go to your replays

still loling at the "a hack will never be tournament standard" argument.
counterstrike 1.6.

but yeah umm project m has no intention of replacing melee. melee is what inspired project m and continues to drive its development. if a ton of melee players indeed decide to switch over to project m and abandon melee then so be it, but i'm personally doubting it. i see no problem with both games existing.

Ideally project m would replace Brawl...

That's about as likely as me turning Smash Bros into a profitable career.

I will definitely play project m, but I'm still worried about the native Brawl characters.

Doc, Mewtwo, Roy, Young Link, Pichu - all of the characters we lose are fun to play against and fun to play as. The characters we will gain, characters like Olimar, Diddy and ROB, tend to rely heavily on and exemplify the shenanigans and slow-paced movements of Brawl. They have a high proportion of weak multi-hit attacks instead of the satisfying "pop" attacks that Melee was based around. I mean, just going from Roy to Ike, we're replacing a fast character with an extremely slow one.

I know they're going to Melee-ify these characters. I've seen what they did to Snake, and it looks promising. I'm sure Wolf and Charizard will convert well, since they seem based around sensible dynamics. But some of the others... Ivysaur good god.... Wario.... no....

WTF. you are probably the most biased and person ive ever met if you think Ivysaur and Wario arent up to your melee Par, Hes an IDEAL melee character.

Wario is one of the only Melee esque characters in brawl, he has combos good air mobility like falcon, hes not really as heavy as say, gannon, hes more floaty, but slightly heavier. I could go on, but long story short, some of the characters that have to depend on shenanigans to win have to depend on them for a reason. If wario was in melee he wouldnt need to time people out, and what the hell ROB? really? what kind of shenanigans does rob have? that character is balls.

Project M is about bringing the best of melee and the best of brawl together, the only good thing from brawl is more characters, stages and the vast customization options. The best things from melee being... pretty much everything else.

also lol at your "Sensible dynamics" what the **** does that even mean? that you think there should be absolutely no variety? That any character thats a little diffrent then what your used to its gay or cheap, right? Typical Scrub Melee player stance i guess.

Ive been playing Melee for half a year now, Its a much better game, but the fact that people shoot down project M simply because its brawl related, or even the idea of people prematurely judging it, is JUST PLAIN STUPID.

first if you think wario's air mobility is like falcon than you're ********
second get of PM's **** it's sooo annoying seeing people like you. It's gonna be a cool project sure, but let people have their beliefs and his were not even crazy at all, he was just concerned about the "meleefication" of some brawl characters
tldr: shut the **** up, go tell the devs how much you love them

I believe the only thing they've done to Wario so far is nerf his upB but man did I have a blast playing as him. He was 'made' for this game.

Oddly enough Amsah loved Ivysaur when I saw him play.

if i may interject, some gravity-based moves may have been nerfed by physics. this includes things like wario's, and very much link's, upBs.

thanks.

Irony?

~One of the personal main reasons I left Brawl wasn't because of the mechanics, but the roster. I still don't find the roster inspiring. Therefore, Project M or not, I'm still not interested. Certainly a lot of work being put into it, but for me, the roster's always been the whole part of me playing Smash. I'm sorry, but the speedster hedgehog, an auroholic raccoon, and my favorite Pkmn ('zard) just cannot replace a Legendary... this coming from the heavy-duty Pkmn-fan side of me.

So yeah, I've got that bit of bias on my part. Now, if I saw people playing it, I probably wouldn't mind watching... but Brawl still pisses me off so badly with how hard it slapped me in the face with that ****ing character line-up.

...But I would seriously LOL if PM actually replaced Brawl as a whole... Haha.

To the P:M team (not tryna single anyone out)
Don't forget that you're asking for our (SSBM players) opinions, so no need to get defensive or w/e when someone says something that you don't wanna hear (like "SSBM is better" or something). We Melee players love Melee with a passion. Please respect that.

Anyways

Ok, lets read the OP.

Ok, again, but in smaller sections:

Key words: Melee 2.0

Key words: change, drop melee

Key words: instead of melee

Ok back to Octave's post

wutttttttttttt

oh ya, also in the OP

then shouldn't we ask Brawl players if they'd rather play Project M than Melee???

Which game and community NEEDS something like this? Melee? or Brawl?

Ima play Melee

til i die

who are u?! why have i not heard of u

if sakurai made brawl like project m

then project m wouldnt exist and melee would be what halo 2 is to halo 3
I tried playing halo 3 once. It seemed very slow. Slower than I remembered the first one being, so I wrote it off as the brawl of the halo series.

Do a lot of Melee players even own Wiis? I can think of that as a big reason that this won't become too much of a standard. I know I sold my Wii a long time ago along with Brawl.
