Reformatting is supposed to put ur wii back to the way when u first bought it. Its kinda like when u format a sd card or thumb drive. It should be safe, but I havent read anything about people doing it with bricked wiis lol. Normally cuz they get a full brick and can't acess the reformat under the wii settings is why tho.
