What does a 2.5D platformer even mean? A linear 3D platformer? A 2D platformer with 3D graphics? A 2D platformer where you can interact with the background? A platformer that switches between 2D and 3D? Whatever Yoshi's Story is supposed to be? I've seen the term used to refer to so many distinct types of game.

I remember reading once that there was this Facebook meme account that was run by wacky teenagers but disguised as a boomer account and filled all their memes with lines about drinking out the garden hose as a conspiracy to convince younger generations that boomers used to drink out of the garden hose. I cannot find any proof this hoax was ever a thing.
