I have finally figured out the truth of how gender and sex work in the Mario universe - in Dribble and Spitz’ intro in the first WarioWare you can see a pregnant woman in the background, so it seems the Mario universe works under the same rules as Warner Bros’ Storks movie (remember that thing?) where there are multiple methods of baby creation, including both sex and stork.

SpongeBob’s popularity is kinda hard to explain - it hasn’t got a unique tone like say, Hey Arnold or Courage; the characters and world are standard comedy cartoon fare; the show wasn’t breaking new ground like Simpsons or Ren and Stimpy before it; and the show wasn’t marketed that heavily until they knew it was a major success - I think it serves as a testament to the value of great writing that works on all levels.

While the ideal solution would be balancing out the gross-out and strongman sides of Wario, I honestly wouldn’t be opposed to Land Wario getting his own slot separate from Ware. On one hand I feel Wario’s moveset is absolutely perfect and a solid portrayal of the character, but on the other I do wish Land got some more representation. VB and 4 are some of the most solid platformers ever put to code.
