  • Here's a straight out of the oven scorching hot Sonic take

Greg Martin is one of the best official artists in the series history and has the best character design for the blue blur.

The only thing I don't like about his art is his frequent tracing of his existing Sonic face, but even then: it just worked.

R.I.P. Greg Martin - a box art hero.
Getting upset over developer showcases is 100% valid. They tend to have absolutely rubbish lineups sans the occasional interesting game.

Yeah, but only after seeing the titles. Getting upset over seeing “Partner showcase announced!” is stupid.

Also, seeing as how they usually announce pretty big and important titles like Monster Hunter, I don’t really mind a few games that look bad. Plus those games would’ve been in a nintendo direct anyways.

I still think getting really upset doesn’t make much sense seeing as how they’re supposed to be short and frequent. You’re not really supposed to remember each one the hype surrounding it like people remember Nintendo directs
    Rant time:

Having autism kinda sucks, at least it does at this stage of our culture. I have been to roughly 6 or 7 special needs schools across my entire life, and only one, my final one before turning 18, was at all fit to educate me, but at that point I was broken beyond repair from previous schools, (including one that practised solitary confinement) and as such left unable to learn. They sunk millions of government dollars down the drain solely for me to sit in a room alone and read Mario Wiki articles in boredom, something I can do at home without obnoxious iDubbbz-watching teenagerchildren shouting homophobic slurs at me for no reason every 5 seconds.

Life for me as a Autistic person has been rough too. When they found out I was Autistic, the school district was afraid of allowing me into school because of potentially being bullied. My mother a very educated person who once got on the Dean's List in college home school me instead.

In my pre-teen years, I went to therapy because of the speech impediment I use to have. Now I can speak perfectly, but before going to therapy I couldn't pronounce a lot of stuff right.

I've gotten my GED and now I have a pretty good job that pays well.

I only have one friend in person and I have been harassed and discriminated by people at work and the church I use to go to.

Sometimes life is really hard for me.

This is the first time I've ever talked about my own experiences online, since I'm EXTREMELY self conscious about it, and barely anyone who knows me, knows about it except my parents and some of my close friends who were also in the system with me.

Grades 1-3 were the hardest for me personally. I was sent to a separate school in a faraway town for some reason, and I was the outcast of my class. Cue the bullying and BS, as well as teachers punishing me by not letting me participate in class for not liking my ****ing lunch. I'm dead serious. I couldn't even see the board because there was a divider blocking me from the class. Looking back as an adult, I'd probably sue the school if I found out my kid was being treated like that by teachers.

Thankfully I went back to my home town 4th grade onwards, where everything slowly went up from there. My town was really good with helping Sp. Ed students as much as they can. From there, my main goals were fitting in with everyone else, and later on breaking out of the Sp. Ed system. I always wanted to fit in with the "cool kids" back in 4th grade, and thankfully I succeeded for the most part. I'm still in contact with some of my friends from my graduating class. Making friends was much easier back at home, and I felt like I was improving as a person (despite my many social issues I had as a kid).

While family related issues have affected me since 5th grade, and temporarily made some of my issues worse, I eventually reached the point in high school where I was able to be in typical classes (along with a few other students). That was the time period where I truly felt normal, and I've had no issues since. I've had some other experiences unrelated to school that I might rant about if the topic comes up again. (I got bitten in the arm once. That was fun.)
The "Bottom Gear" meme feels like it came straight out the edgy "rebel age" of memes (2014 to 2016 about) - and it feels like, not a breath of fresh air so to speak, but like heavily polluted air after a session of scuba diving. Very specific, I know.
People who say "uwu so babey" and stuff like that creep me out, but like - not because I interpret it as sexual, but rather the exact opposite - why would you speak like that in a NON-sexual manner?
When they brought "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader" to the UK, they changed the title to "Are You Smarter Than A 10 Year Old" since we don't use the grade system, and our equivalent (the year system) is nowhere near as iconic. For whatever reason, they added an extra syllable to the theme song despite "5th grader" and "10 year old" having the same amount of syllables, so they're singing "Are you smarter than a 10 year ol-olddd?" for no reason

Tried finding a full episode but couldn’t. Here’s an advertisement of the Japanese version

“QUIZ! Anata wa shougakkou gonensei yori kashikoi no?” (QUIZ! Are you more clever than an elementary school 5th grader?). The contestants are typically famous people, singers, athletes, actors, and other celebrities.

I think the video I posted was a full episode. If you can't see it then it must be that the copyright holder is trying to make regional versions only watchable in their respective region since that video you posted isn't available here in the UK

Ah, yeah I meant I tried finding a full episode of the Japanese version but I couldn’t. Stupid region laws...
I'm not one for forcing diverse characters into crossovers just for the sake of having diversity (emphasis on "into crossovers"), but I kinda want Bubbles from Clu Clu Land in Smash just for the sole purpose of having a female Smash character who is not in the slightest bit conventionally attractive. She's a red ball with bucked teeth who is supposed to be a pufferfish, she is probably the most sexless fictional character design imaginable, I don't even think people who are into abstract, non-sexual character designs would find Bubbles attractive. I don't even think you could do the whole Super Crown thing with her, she is the literal antithesis of all things sexual, just as Satan is the Anti-Christ, Bubbles is the Anti-Cupid.
To me, non-game characters in Smash are less a case of "shouldn't happen", and more "can't happen" - if Goku or SpongeBob was announced for Smash I'd welcome them with open arms.
Monkey Ball 1 and 2 are actually better Sonic games than most 3D Sonic games - I love me some Colours, Generations and Lost World, but Monkey Ball's got the semi-linear stages; the momentum physics; the stage gimmicks; most of the fundamental basics of a Classic Sonic game gameplay-wise really.

What is your favorite 3D Sonic game, anyway? Mine's Gens, mainly for the level design and music, and partly for mod support.
And yeah, never heard of anyone phrase Monkey Ball like that, but it does make me want to play them quite a bit out of sheer curiosity.

Those 3 I listed, with my favourite being Lost World (controversial pick, I know), I'm also quite partial to 3D Blast (the Director's Cut mod).

Gosh, LW is a weird case. I only played the 3DS version as I never owned a Wii U, but I will say this-the story and level design alone have warded me off from purchasing it on steam. (Not the stage layouts themselves, just thought the designs looked bland and uninspired). I did get the soundtrack though, and while it's often not the hard rock or orchestral rock Modern Sonic is known for, it's quite good in my opinion. (Kinda wish I had a Wii U to play as Link Sonic, but oh well.) I'm not sure it's worth 30 bucks on Steam, especially since it's a controversial game, so I'll wait for a price drop.
3D Blast, huh? I'm also one of the few who didn't think it was a complete disaster. Although Adventure was probably the better transition in terms of how Sonic controlled and the level design. I'll check out the Director's Cut of 3D Blast when I get a chance.

How so? Did they put a price on their fangames, or was it something else, like an optional donation?

Mostly the donation part. Like Patreon and such.

That's pretty different-saying "hey, I'm putting a bunch of work into something I'm garunteed to not make money off of. You have the option to support me financially if you so choose.", rather than "hey, give me money if you want to play this thing with properties I don't own." It's Nintendo's choice to take these down-the fangame creators aren't breaking any rules here unless they're charging money for the game itself. Like I said, even if it does affect Nintendo, does it really matter? Fangames are garunteed to get less attention than an official game (unless it's a special case like Sonic Mania). I can't imagine someone would make so much money off of a fangame that it would financially hurt the richest company in Japan.
I was thinking about this over my vacation: a good Looney Tunes fighting game would be amazing. Looney Tunes tended to have slow set ups for satisfying, smart and, of course, violent gags so I was thinking the game (not sure if it'd be a platfighter or traditional, but I'd say platfighter makes more sense for a game starring characters popular with kids like Bugs and Daffy) could run at a Brawl/Wii U level pace and have the game's meat rely less on combos (not that those wouldn't exist in this game of course) and more on outwitting and luring foes.

A fighting game using western/american cartoons as a roster basis with cartoony characters would be amazing in general. It would be a breath of fresh air from all the intense anime fighers like Blazlbue, Guilty Gear, Dragon Ball Fighterz or realistic western fighters like Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinc. I remember doing a fan-roster for a CN Time Explosion 2 and just going nuts.
Had Federation Force just been released as "Blast Ball" people would probably wonder why it WASN'T a Metroid game.

Real talk, I personally think there's a chance it might have been another Dinosaur Planet situation where Next-Level Games were making a space soccer game, some executive at Nintendo thought it'd fit Metroid, and told them to stich the IP on it.

Obviously, there's nothing official to support that, but it's a fun, silly tin-foil hat theory I have. :p
I saw "Ashley Banjo" trending on Twitter and thought they shadowdropped a trailer for Ashley with Banjo in it. I was wrong unfortunately.

If Banjo didn't get in Smash, he would certainly be the new Daisy Ridey.
Made another iceberg, this one I'm actually really proud of: the game localisation iceberg!
Rebooting G&W with vintage ROMs is a genius idea, but really hasn't been executed well. I would've made it more of a budget release designed for families too poor to afford a Switch, a market I'm surprised Nintendo isn't tapping into given that's where bootleg products thrive.

The Super Mario Bros G&W is the very definition of cash grab.

Maybe they could have made a G&W version of the NES Classic with more games? That would be cool
    Wario Wario Wario
    Wario Wario Wario
Yeah, that'd be cool, but also, imagine a £10, give or take, G&W with the original US Mario trilogy on it and a watch, that'd sell like hotcakes among both, collectors and parents just looking for a simple game their kids can play that won't crunch the budget.
The reason why people make fun of guns and swearing in Shadow the Hedgehog where games like Crash Bandicoot can get off the hook with the same things is because Shadow took it completely straight and used mature themes solely to look cool. It's not "guns in a kids' game" that people dislike, it's "guns portrayed as cool in a kids' game".
I'll always find it hilarious how poorly Sega censored Bonanza Bros. in the 90s. The game is about robbing banks and released during a time where games were being accused of promoting crime so censorship certainly wasn't unnecessary - but the way they went around it was super strange - they changed the brothers to detectives, cool, but instead of you know, changing the loot to evidence and cops to thugs or anything like that, they just added a plot description in the manual that says that they're detectives testing a new security system... by robbing banks... and also added a cutscene to the game's attract mode that contradicts BOTH plots by saying they're vigilantes hired to stop crooked establishments...
