Something really weird I see in political discourse about representation in media is "Oh, you're just appealing to single digit% of the population"
OK, I get that numbers are hard to comprehend, but surely anyone would be able to tell that "1% of the population", even at a national scale, is an absolutely massive number. (and even then it's a lowball to say LGBT people are 1% of the US population... well, not really a low ball, just a lie.)
