Smashboards will now feature the Weekly Top 5 Smash Shorts series into its weekly Smash News rotation. What is a Smash Short? As the name suggests, it's a quick moment or series of events in Smash that is so good that you have to share it with someone. Gamers Outreach Foundation is a Michigan-based 501(c)(3) charity organization that provides therapy and recreation to children in hospitals using video games! One of their specific projects (piloted at Mott Children’s Hospital of Ann Arbor) includes building portable video game kiosks for kids hospitals who are in need of bedside activities. Just over a month ago, the return of the legendary Genesis tournament series was announced. Not much was known about the tournament except for that it would be a major international tournament in Northern California during the Winter of 2016, and that it would hold the The Melee Games finals.

Now, some new details have been revealed! Genesis 3 will take place from January 15th-17th, 2016 at the San Jose Convention Center. The San Jose Convention Center is 3.9 miles away from the local airport, and offers over 100,000 square feet of space.

The newly released game, Super Mario Maker, will be coming to Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U as a DLC stage! This new DLC stage was revealed spontaneously on Nintendo's YouTube channel at 6:00 PM PDT.

We have once again updated our rankings system to include some more features, and some other updates like positions for Smashboards Rankings. I’m going to give a rundown of the full Rankings Update! Rankings Basics: We are aware that there is occasionally some confusion on how exactly are rankings are calculated, and what their purpose is. This section serves to alleviate that! Our rankings system works by allotting a certain number of points to events. We do this by placing them into categories (more on that in a bit), and players will get a certain amount of points based upon their ranking in the event. The Events system on Smashboards has received an overhaul tonight! Much of the functionality you're familiar with is still here, but in a much easier to use way, both for event organizers and people in attendance.


You can still find Monthly and Weekly views of upcoming events by visiting the Events section. One of the new features however, is you can visit the Events Settings page and choose to filter the events by game, and also by their location relative to you.

When submitting an event, you will find a lot of similar fields to fill out such as the Title, Description and venue. You will also now find a field specifically for an address to use for a Google Maps display, as well as for the distance based filtering system. For years, Nebulous Games has provided a venue that has brought the New York City Smash community together like never before. Beforehand, the NYC community was in disarray - NYC Smashers were scattered all across the area, with no unified meeting point for them to come together and play Smash. But with the help of some of the area's Smashers they found a great venue for NYC - Nebulous.

A new eSports team has formed! Created by former Smashers Alan "SamuraiPanda" Bunney and David "Mashumaro" Wu, Panda Gaming is not only a Fighting Game team, but also an eSports agency. SamuraiPanda and Mashumaro are two best friends who used to be top players in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as well as MOBAs such as League of Legends. SamuraiPanda is also a moderator here on Smashboards.

Rivals of Aether is an independently developed, Smash-inspired 2-D fighting game by a small team of talented indie developers. It beautifully combines Smash's core elements while bringing new features, making for a refreshing yet familiar experience. Along with that, Rivals of Aether boasts a wide variety of unique stages and characters, as well as a retro look and a catchy chip-tune soundtrack.

Nintendo announced today that Mario Strikers: Battle League will get free post-launch updates, including new characters. Nintendo announced that more details will come at a later date. Nintendo also announced a First Kick demo that will be available from June 3rd to 5th. All six of these sessions will be available for one hour. We've listed the times of each session in order
