Nintendo Direct Announced!

We may finally have some incoming Smash news as a new Nintendo direct has been announced! This will be the first Nintendo Direct since its hiatus with the passing of Satoru Iwata so it will be interesting to see how the presentation differs from before. The main subject of the direct is vague simply stating "updates on upcoming Wii U and Nintendo 3DS releases"...
Smash 64 Needs Readers' Help To Make History

With Genesis a little over two months away, time is ticking to put together funds for travel and accommodations. The Smash 64 community may be feeling this pressure the most out of the entire Smash umbrella, as it hopes to make history with unprecedented international attendance.

After Apex 2015 and Super Smash Con achieved record registration numbers, Genesis 3 is hopeful to raise the bar even higher. With the return of Isai after a two year hiatus, as well as dominant players like SuPeRbOoMfAn, KeroKeroppi, Jaime, Fireblaster, and Wizzrobe confirmed attending, Genesis 3 is looking to be the most stacked tournament in recent memory.


Speaking of which, attendees should definitely join Smash 64 singles!

Not known to many Smashers outside of the close-knit 64 community, the game has its own legendary folklore of "Gods", whom are scattered around the globe: Japan, Peru, Brazil, Chile, Australia...
Super Smash Bros. Nominated For People's Choice Awards - Go Vote!

The People's Choice Awards has been broadcast on CBS since its first show in 1975. The concept of the show is to allow the American people to vote on things like favorite television shows, movies, musics, and more in general categories. This year for the 42nd edition of the show a new category has been added for favorite video game. Super Smash Bros has been nominated along with several other titles to win a People's Choice Award for 2016!
Myran, Feel Tension, Lyric, And Seagull Joe Signed By Arcane eSports!

In announcements spanning the last few days, eSports organization Arcane eSports has signed four Smash players onto their team: Myran, Lyric, Feel Tension, and Seagull Joe. "The Smash scene as a whole is an amazing community full of passionate and willing players and it is my honor to represent them as the Super Smash Bros. Melee player of Arcane eSports." said Lyric. "I'm looking forward to this extraordinary journey with you all."
Angel Cortes Signed By Astral Authority

It's time to get exposed as Angel Cortes has been signed by Astral Authority! Angel Cortes, formerly known as iKon, was an Ice Climbers main in Brawl but is better known as a Diddy Kong player in Smash 4. Gaining notoriety after a now famous Twitlonger Post calling out many players he has gone on to take top placements at many tournaments including Super Smash Con and Nebulous Prime 1 at 5th and 9th at SKATAR 4. He is also currently ranked 5th on the New Jersey Smash 4 Power Rankings.

The Guinness World Records has been the world's largest collection of world records for over 50 years. In this year's Guinness World Records Gamer Edition, not one, but two Smash Bros. players have been featured for their achievements!

Another Smash player has been signed! Team Detonate announced yesterday night that SuperGirlKels would be joining their Smash team. She is a tournament organizer for the Uproar Tournament series in Canada and recently joined the ranks of Villyness for women to take a top five placement at a major tournament having gotten 4th at Canada Cup. She expressed excitement at joining the team.
Panda Global Signes Wobbles!

Panda Global has been growing strong in Smash even though the team is so relatively new. Having only been around since June of 2015 they have already signed on names like Eric "ESAM" Kew, Jestise "MVD" Negron, Justin "Plup" McGrath, and Shane "SS" Bruce. Today they add a Smash player and commentator with an entire technique named after him. Panda Global has signed Robert "Wobbles" Wright!
Our Bud Spud Is Signed By Sin Gaming!

Sin Gaming, which currently sponsors an Australian pro League of Legends team, will be extending its reach into the world of Smash for the first time to sign Spud! Spud became famous after being the highest placing Oceania Melee player at BAM7 as well as being the only Oceania player to take down an international guest. Does this mean we'll see more of Spud possibly at events in the United States? "We're currently negotiating with sponsors." Sin Gaming said on Twitter. "Very keen to make it possible."
NAKAT Joins Counter Logic Gaming

Smash 4 has been seeing lots of major sponsorships recently. With ZeRo joining Team SoloMid and Nairo joining Team Liquid, it would only make sense for fan favorite NAKAT to join the ranks of Counter Logic Gaming. This is CLG's first venture in Smash 4 after welcoming PewPewU to the team earlier this year for Melee. Here is what CLG has to say from the official press release:

Any readers that frequently watch the Xanadu streams each week will probably be familiar with Mister Eric. New Apex Series Website Launched: Tournament Date Unannounced

News has been released over the famous yet controversial tournament series: Apex. The tournament has launched its new website which contains general information, the new staff of the event, a history of the tournament series, but no official date for the tournament as of now. With the headlines of a "new team", "new approach", and "new ideas", it will be interesting to see how the series pans out in the coming weeks.

Now under the tag mMm | VaBengal, this software engineer and power ranked Zero Suit Samus main will be an excellent addition to the team. Ice Climbers extraordinaire ChuDat is a player that has remained a strong force for a very long time. He became one of the best Melee players in the world in the game's early years and nearly singlehandedly developed the Ice Climbers metagame. He still is a force to be reckoned with in 2015, as demonstrated by his incredible run at EVO 2015 that netted him a top 8 placing. ChuDat is also became known for being a top Kirby player in Brawl and Project M.

After departing with Mortality eSports earlier this year, ChuDat was left without a sponsor, preventing him from traveling to tournaments as frequently as before.

The Big House 5 is one for the history books. Bolstering record attendance and a slew of events the event had set the stage for an amazing weekend of Super Smash Bros. With multiple top streamers, support from a variety of organizations and a grassroots compendium, and top tournament organizer talent all that was needed to deliver the perfect event was there: And it delivered. In the event preview the scope of the tournament and what to look at going forward was lined out. We've also had a quick glance at the results for Wii U and for Melee. In April 2015, Shiny Quaqsire originally shook the fanbase when discovered, at that time, unused audio files for Ryu, Roy and Lucas as well as stage music for Dreamland 64. Shortly after making the audio discoveries, Shiny Quaqsire found unused database entries for both characters and stages in the 3DS version.

Event Preview: The Big House 5

On October 3rd Smash Bros. players from across the globe will travel to Dearborn, Michigan for one of the biggest events in the history of the scene. Registration is closed; and all-in-all the numbers don't lie. Over 2,000 attendees have registered for the event. With Melee clocking in at whopping 1,300+ entrants in singles and 500+ for the corresponding Wii U singles. To help put that in perspective: those numbers make this event the second largest Melee tournament of all time (only trailing EVO 2015) and as one of the five largest Wii U turnouts so far in the game's young lifespan. In a scene making a successful transition into the eSports realm, TBH5 took a rigorous grassroots approach to build the event up from the ground up.

Club Nintendo is essentially ending in less than 24 hours. Players in Europe, Australia or Japan must turn their points or stars by the end of the day or risk losing them forever.

Club Nintendo launched in October 2003, originally Japan only; has rewarded loyal fans of Nintendo with exclusive goods. Stars and points were collected by purchasing games or consoles and registering them with Nintendo. Surveys could also be filled out for some additional points. Merchandise such as posters, calendars, shirts and even games have been released through Club Nintendo over the years.

The rewards program is set to be replaced by a new cross platform system created in partnership with DeNa sometime in the future.

KoreanDJ Parts With Team Liquid - Retires From Smash

Team Liquid has announced that Daniel "KoreanDJ" Jung has decided to leave the team and retire from competitive Smash due to injuries. In the official announcement Victor "Nazgul" Goosens had only positive praise for KDJ and sadness that he would be leaving the team. "I have gotten to know him as a kind and smart guy, and what I have admired most about him is his insatiable drive and dedication to become good at what he loves. We bid farewell to a great friend and one of the most admired stories in Smash history, and he leaves behind a legacy that can be rivaled by so very few."
