Even as someone who loves platformers, agrees that Ultimate's DLC had a crippling visual variety problem, and really doesn't like defending post-Melee Smash, the argument that "platforming characters are more distinguishable than JRPG characters" is bizarre to me. There are just as many tropes in platforming character designs for reductive comparisons as there are in JRPG heroes - big conjoined eyes, use of mammals as opposed to reptiles/fish/birds/e.t.c., bipedal bodies, exaggeratedly large hands and feet, either orange or black fur, incomplete clothing, flat beige/white muzzles, so on
