    Honestly, I do agree with "characters as functions" - really, it's just basic game design, that being said glaces at a certain thread having the same weapon, archetype, or theme does not make a character the same as or similar to another, nor does being similar to another mean they shouldn't get in. Functionality should only bar a character if they full on cannot work with Smash (Min Min for example)

    Here's how I would've made a "retro game streaming service" under Nintendo:

    1. Multiplatform release, not part of NSO. Includes less conventional platforms like Smart TVs, tablets, and browser.
    2. Crossplay, with anonymous play allowed for select games
    3. All Nintendo-owned games can be purchased to permanently own on Switch exclusively even if you don't have the service. The prior bold is as to not take away any sales for companies' own ports; remakes or compilations, while the latter is to give players a motivation to buy a Switch
    4. No drip feeding games, but instead put on every console once it's ready most Nintendo games avaliable from the launch of their respective console (sans a Uniracers or EarthBound here or there that needs lawyer attention) and other companies requested (but not mandated) to release content as quickly as possible
    5. Encourage companies to renew licenses for former tie in games as to allow the likes of Turtles in Time and DuckTales on the platform, possibly even help fund those license renewals (I don't know if that's a financially viable option but whatever)
    6. Variety of consoles ranging from Colour TV Game at earliest to the Wii at latest (and possibly even 3DS), try to get Sega; Colecovision; Commodore 64/Amiga; and Atari content as well.
    7. Allow a variety of control schemes - for example using the PS4 touchpad to play DS games.
    8. Actual good emulation and features that can compete with freeware emulators
    9. Include as many variants of games as possible - for example choose between Panel de Pon and Tetris Attack, GB or NES Dr. Mario, or NTSC and PAL Melee. Officially pick up select mods, mostly translations.

    The Koopalings' mass-produced clown car eyes are a really cute detail, but also kinda ugly and distracting once the novelty wears off. I personally would've made the difference be that the Koopalings don't take as much care of their clown cars as Jr., so some of the weapons that come out are a little rusted or wonky.

    I wouldn't be opposed to a Duck Hunt reboot based on Smash's iteration, but it would need to have some kind of major shooting element - though I wouldn't want it be an FPS either. I have no clue who or what would actually be getting shot though since the dog and ducks are now friends.

    I imagine something along the lines of a Yoshi type game. Side facing platforming adventure where you use a reticle like Yoshi does when throwing eggs or something. Enemies could be anything, really. Maybe possessed, evil ducks or something that get blat blatted with clay pigeons to knock them out as opposed to 'killing' them. Or can utilize the can to do a big aoe to take out enemies on the other side of some obstacle before traversing it that just chars their feathers and they 'fall off stage' with swirlies in their eyes. Little things to show they're not dead just stunned or put out of commission.

    If they make a Minecraft racer they should just call it "Minecart" - yes, without a K. People would get the point even without seeing images or description with just how iconic Minecraft is and how major a part of it minecarts are.

    An advert mascots fighting game would unironically be amazing. I plan to make a platform fighter some day and that could perhaps be a fun fangame project to make as preperation.

    If you're planning to get NASB, only buy it on Switch if it's your only option. Updates come out super late for Switch (I fear the free characters may come late for us), online is most active on PC, (though more active on Switch than PS5 from what I've seen) and if you get it on PC you can download VA mods.

    I saw the title of the "Fortnite X Universal Monsters" trailer with no thumbnail and misread it as "Fortnite X Monsters University". My sole thought was "why not regular Monsters Inc?"

    I'm in this weird situation where I don't know how I feel about it. For starters - the trailer in question looks more like Mortal Kombat, which is genuinely pretty funny to me.

    The second thing is... Universal Monsters is a "series" that I've wanted to see get some recognition for a while now, but given it's in, well, Fortnite... I feel like weirder picks, such as the Invisible Man from the 1933 movie, or the Creature from the Black Lagoon, might get overshadowed by obvious picks like "Oooo Frankenstein's Monster" or "Oooo Dracula"

    I know I sound elitist as hell here, but let me at least stress this... I'm glad we got some cool things here. Also, WAS THAT THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN?

    Even though there's no proof the term "chinese whispers" had offensive origins AFAIK, I prefer "purple monkey dishwasher" because 1. there's no potential to offend, and 2. haha funny simpson (it's also more interesting than "telephone game")

    Sad to see NASB hype die so quickly, but I'm absolutely not gonna go doomer mode - there'll at least be a short rise in interest once Garfield and items drop, and come Christmas servers will be packed. Additionally, I think this game will no doubt thrive as a competitive game - not a Smash killer or even a Rivals killer, but a fun side event held up by devoted players and casual spectators there for novelty. I don't AT ALL believe Shreds and the Garf will be the end of content for the game either.
