i've had an abysmal idea

bbc platfighter but all of the music tracks are presented as though it's actually bbc radio and you can choose different radio hosts. a lot of them are actual bbc radio hosts but then there's a couple of wild ones like hacker the dog from cbbc or the host of university challenge

i should note that it probably wouldnt be able to play much in the way of licensed music but itd still be fun if each stage has plenty of different songs related to it in some way or another. it doesnt help that a lot of shows only really have one "theme" like top gear's jessica or whatever but you could always shoehorn in other stuff if you wanted to

I'm guessing that, given SmashBoards' history with a certain upcoming release, either this place is going to be literally parading or it'll be an unlivable hellhole for the next week or so. Looks cool though, I'm glad to see that older games that often go underappreciated are getting actually high-effort remakes.

On another note is WarioWare: Smooth Moves now a franchise of its own

One thing I think would make for a genuinely great adaptation, but could probably never happen because of the nature of the brand in the modern consciousness, is an adaptation of the original Mirage Comics run of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Given the brand is now seen as more child-safe and whatever I can imagine they couldn't really use the TMNT as headlining inclusions, but an idea that springs to mind is perhaps a short series based on Shredder's origin, characterisation, and life in the series so as to kind of sidestep the brand issues that might otherwise arise.

So like I was midway through conceptualising what a Flash-centric roster could look like and I got kinda stuck partway through so that's on the backburner for now but one idea I had that I thought would be really funny is the athlete from QWOP. (Let's call him QWOP. The name suits him.) Like honestly the idea of his moveset being deliberately very complicated but at the same time having a ridiculously high skill ceiling is somehow really appealing to me, even if I don't really think he should have the same level of movement complexity as his original game. That aside, if you needed to expand his moveset somewhat, field athletics would be a great inspiration with things like javelins, a discus, and so forth.

Pray tell - what would y'all wanna see in a Flash crossover game? I'm aware there's a lot of more obvious picks out there like Fancy Pants, Fireboy & Watergirl, Captain Viridian, Isaac, characters from MMOs like Club Penguin or Bin Weevils, the iconic Newgrounds lineup and so forth, but would there be more obscure characters you'd like to see in something like that? Personally, I'd love to see the Ninja (his name is not N) (from N) and Chronotron (from Chronotron), aside from QWOP. They'd be hella cool.

I wonder how long it'll be until someone creates a detailed video concept for AiAi from the Monkey Ball series's moveset in Super Smash Bros. and the main "gimmick" is that you tilt the stage itself in order to move because it's "closer to the source material"

I still don't quite understand how PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale got released without any Gran Turismo content whatsoever. I do get that the main draw of the series is that it includes licensed cars and that it's focused on simulation, so it makes sense not to include a character, obviously. I can actually see the argument not to include a stage either, seems as it'd likely end up being "a racetrack, but-" and people might find that boring. That being said, though... surely something like music or even icons or backgrounds would have been a good fit for it, right?

That said I'm at least glad WipEout got a bit of representation in stages and items, that's pretty cool to see

Fun fact: the television show Columbo almost caused a civil war in Romania in (if I remember correctly) 1974. The reason for this is because the Romanian government had mandates in place to limit the amount of imported television that could be broadcasted.

See, Columbo was by far one of the most popular television shows in the country at the time. As such, networks would broadcast it twice a week - resulting in them pretty quickly burning through the entire 1974 season and running out of episodes to show. That being said, the explanation was taken poorly by the Romanian populace, who believed that the government had deliberately cancelled the show due to import quotas.

As if this couldn't get any more bizarre, the Romanian government - concerned about the rising tensions taking place - contacted (or, well, practically begged) the U.S. State Department to have Peter Falk himself (Columbo's actor) create a public service announcement explaining that, in fact, the Romanian people had already burned through all of the Columbo content in existence at the time, and that this wasn't a government coup of some description. Better yet? He obliged - in Romanian, no less, which I am led to believe he spoke phonetically as opposed to through a translator.

One thing that I think would be really, really cool is to see a cameo in one of the Like a Dragon games from, of all people, Ryo Hazuki. Not in the way we know him, though. He'd only be an NPC (and probably a minor one at that) and he's much older, reflecting the passage of time since the Shenmue series. Maybe he's settled down, working as a forklift operator for old time's sake or something like that.

Come to think of it, there's a lot of interesting storytelling you could do with a short skirmish you might have with him. I can imagine that perhaps his experiences continually facing off against Lan Di as well as his troubled nature results in him being quite defensive overall, actively avoiding more powerful attacks so as not to take his father's place on the opposite side of a powerful strike. Also, it'd honestly be pretty funny if he were to give you a Capsule Toy if you defeat him, probably the Sonic R model of Sonic they used.

Although it'd probably seem way too fan-servicey for some people, I feel like it'd be a really interesting inclusion to harken back to a bit of history, whilst also showing some of the evolution for a character who's story we may never get to see concluded. No spoilers, of course - just a nice chance to see how far he's come.

That being said, I'm not sure if Shenmue is a game series within the Like a Dragon series. That might make things... awkward.

looking back the thing i think i find weirdest about the live-actions smurf movies isn't the fact that they existed, but the fact that someone on the writing team thought that replacing random words with "smurf" was peak humour. like someone probably choked up a kidney the moment they were like "GUYS, GUYS, YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS, WE CAN REPLACE THE WORD "BEAT" WITH "SMURF", IMAGINE THAT, IMAGINE THE SMURF SAYING "I'M GONNA SMURF YOU UP", AHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH"

It's kinda funny to look at the suggestions people had for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale at around the time of its release because whilst Spyro and Crash would undeniably be fun picks you know damn well they'd be mandated to be in their Skylanders and Crash of the Titans looks respectively

Imagine trying to explain to a history class in about 800 years that one of the most famous works of art in history was destroyed by an unknown figure in an apparent offering to the archaic deity known in written correspondences as "Tick Tock"

I've recently been playing SNK Vs. Capcom: The Mark of the Millenium and one thing I think is pretty cool is how they handled the two-button control scheme - specifically with a tap/hold light/heavy sort of style - as well as a few other moves being attached to directional inputs (like for instance Guile's Reverse Spin Kick being a down-forward kick input, or Morrigan's Shell Kick being a downward kick input only when airborne.)

I think it's a really neat simplification of the traditional four/six button control schemes you'd see with games like that and I'm honestly a little surprised that it's not caught on in other more modern fighting games. That said, I'm not sure how I feel about blocking being a backward input to meet an attack. I'm not sure if I'd necessarily prefer a "block button", though. It feels sort of natural but odd - albeit, that might be just from my own lack of mechanical exposure to a lot of tradfighters. Also, the Styles are a pretty cool inclusion, but I'll admit I gravitated toward Average (the Street Fighter type) mostly because it was just a little easier for me to understand.

I also really like the artstyle, but that's generally the main thing people talk about in relation to that game anyway. It'd be fun to see a more modern game with a similar control scheme, though - I'm interested in how it'd feel with a less cartoony "look" overall, or if a part of the appeal boils down to the fact that it's a fairly simplified control scheme with a somewhat cartoonish artstyle overall.

Seems like a fun experience! I think it got rereleased fairly recently at some point, though I don't remember for sure when and where. That said, the Neo Geo Pocket Color isn't too difficult to emulate, Retroarch has a solid core for it somewhere (though for some reason, performing command inputs is easier on NeoPop than on Retroarch?) As for where to get the ROMs, Global Rule 9 tells me that you should purchase a copy of the game and then make a legally acceptable copy for archival purposes only. I'm sure you get the idea. I'd totally recommend it though, even if only as a distraction. It's a fun little thing to mess around with at least! (And there's also eight unlockable fighters, which is pretty fun.)

I like to imagine that, whilst the majority of characters in the Street Fighter series get around via plane (though Ryu probably hitchhikes), Zangief is capable of lariating into the sky like a helicopter if push comes to shove

I'm gonna be real, I'll never not find it impressive that the Tiger Electronics version of Street Fighter II managed to have no less than six playable characters (Ryu, Ken, Guile, Zangief, Blanka and E. Honda) even though the game itself was utterly abysmal because, y'know, it's a Tiger Electronics LCD handheld. It's still really cool that that's the case.

I think Street Fighter should add a character who's whole thing is that they're like, the world's greatest fisherman, and they've only actually joined the World Warrior tournament so they can get some more bait in order to catch a megalodon or something. In terms of gameplay, they'd have the ability to grapple from across the entire screen and would also have solid mid-range tools by smacking people with their fishing rod, and would also be comically muscular because they canonically fight sharks. Basically they'd be the most broken character in the game and Shadaloo would constantly be losing their **** because somehow a ****ing fisherman is the most powerful fighter on the planet

Fighting game character concept: someone who fights with balloons. That's it. Just balloons. You could take this in a few ways but I think it'd be cool if they're some sort of entertainer who's just incredibly good at tying balloons into different shapes and then they get like magic balloons or some **** that can work for them. Like imagine you're fighting some clown girl or something and then she whips out a balloon sword and suddenly pelts a balloon dog forward which comes and bites you or something that seems like it'd be unique

Random shower thought: do you prefer it when puzzle games have characters that you play as with their own unique abilities (like in Puyo Puyo), or do you prefer puzzle-based characters to be intrinsic to the actual game (like in Chu Chu Rocket or Baba is You), or do you prefer puzzle games to rely more on minimalism and not include characters at all?

I've heard arguments for both sides of the debate, and I'm kind of interested to see what the general take on it is...
