It's honestly pretty interesting to delve into MVC3's development with stuff like this in general because it kind of makes sense of a few things! For instance, Super-Skrull (who I still think is a genuinely awesome inclusion) was kind of a concession from a long-winded process of elimination - because they originally considered the Fantastic Four as a single character but couldn't make it work, decided that Thing was too similar to the Hulk, and then were kind of caught between Human Torch (who was too graphically intensive due to the fire effects) and Mr. Fantastic (who actually made it onto some box art) before Marvel themselves suggested the Super-Skrull.

Kinda weird to think that this will probably be the last MVC game to not be completely dictated by what is and isn't either in, or planned for, the MCU.

I’ve always felt like Makoto would be a good pick for an MvC game, her playstyle just feels like it could fit very well with the gameplay of the series

Interesting fact is that Dead Rising's Frank West was supposedly meant to be in Fate of Two Worlds but ended up being cut. But at least he made it in Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3.

To be fair, UMVC3 had Ryu, Akuma, Chun-Li and C.Viper already and that's like 4 out of 25 on the Capcom side which is admittedly less than a fifth of the roster but still kinda takes away space from other potential franchises, so I guess I can see their rationale? That said Gill would still have been really cool and I'd love to see him in the series one day, if it continues
