  • I adore Subspace but there's a lot of things about it that really annoy me. Like why does it show Snake's box on the Halberd for 5 seconds out of nowhere and then doesn't appear again for like 6 hours

Also why does Captain Falcon kill like 20 pikmin for literally no reason and Olimar is just okay with that? Like after seeing how Mario/Link reacting to one apparently killing the other's princess, you'd think Olimar would have some reaction, but no, they just immediately decide to tag team the stage, no fight to make peace, no truce, no anything.

TBF on your second point, Smash Olimar and Pikmin Olimar are not the same character, and Pikmin are much more expendable for Smash Olimar since he can instantly get more with neutral B.
I'VE COME TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT

I heavily reading the doc above if you are interested, but long story short, we're gonna be having an online team-based Smash Ultimate competition with items on! Each team has a set amount of stocks that are whittled down by opponents in a series of 1v1 fights, until one team remains.

Comment below if you have any questions. If you want to sign up, please say if you'd prefer to be on Linkmain-maybe Linkmain-maybe 's team or on my team. (depending on the amount of signups and stuff we may have to move people around so that there is an even number of participants on each team.)
I've got a really funny april fools' idea. guys just wait like 9 months I swear it's gonna be so silly
Actually very proud of finishing reviews for movies in the Last Movie you Saw thread. Most of the time I'll start writing a review of a videogame, intending to post it either here or start a YouTube for it, or even put it in my school paper, but I get hung up on not being able to find a format that works. Movies are just way easier to write about.
Pleasantly surprised that Sega just dropped a really good Sonic Frontiers update. YOU CAN MAKE IT SO YOUR JUMP KEEPS YOUR MOMENTUM NOW. Oh and also the time attack things in the open world are very fun, I guess they heard everyone say that the best part the game was the open zones so they just put a bunch of genuinely challenging levels in them. Very cool stuff, Sonic Team!
Maybe I'm nitpicking but why doesn't Amy turn golden like the other three hedgehogs do? Or at least have her turn red or something for her super form, that'd be a fun reversal on Super Knuckles.
Sonic Superstars segment focusing on the bosses/villains sort of, they did mention Fang but hardly talked about him - haven't seen the full interview though
Origins Plus segment: "It came out today, we hope you enjoy it!"
    Sonic Symphony World Tour re-annoucnement
there were some new dates though
Boring crossover stuff following two non-reveals because Sega doesn't understand why nintendo directs work
New Sonic Forces mobile game character or something idk
Sonic Frontiers segment: "DLC Wave 2 releases today!

Maybe a new spinoff game? This is the one I'm least confident in
One last thing: Story teaser for Frontiers DLC 3
I was mostly spot-on, but given how little we knew it's not like this was difficult.
I'm still addicted to Tears of the Kingdom but my joycons are officially out of comission. Today I cleaned them out and it somehow made everything worse. I honestly do not blame Nintendo though, 6 years is pretty strong for 40 dollar controllers. But yeah, I should have a job in a week or so hopefully, so then that problem will fix itself.
    Sonic Central predicitons (in order):

MultiVersus really needs some big guns to make an impact when it returns, or else it's never entering the public eye again. It needs to either add someone super duper controversial (johnny depp dumbledore could turn a lot of heads for a lot of reasons) or, more preferably, it could be the perfect moment for Walter White.

I feel like whilst MultiVersus could do with some "big guns" when it comes back, it'd also be a good idea to ensure the prioritisation of a couple of popular but "obvious picks". I say this because, if you will, imagine the game returning with characters like Daffy or the Flash still missing, but they add Walter White or Shrek or whatever? Sure, it'd make headlines, but it'd also probably be a better idea to have a combination of both so that people don't end up feeling like the MultiVersus team are catering moreso to memes than to the game's actual concept.

If I were part of the Multiversus team I would suggest adding both Godzilla/Jotaro and a wtf pick which could be either from WB or another company.

That would cause a decent chunk of headlines imo, and It could be comparable to playing as LeBron James and Dwayne Johnson.

I think the biggest pull could be one of the big guest picks they where roumored to be consdering. Halo, Transfomers, Fortnite, etc. Also finally add Gandalf
whoever first had the idea of dressing up Sonic in Beat's clothes deserves a nobel peace prize because that design goes so hard it could bring nations together
Me: Hey do you remember Austin and Ally
My friend: Yeah I loved Austin and Ally
White boy with a youtube channel: why you DON'T remember Austin and Ally (37 minute runtime)
do you guys hear 35 or 95?
My least favorite thing right now is when I'm just trying to look up a general Zelda thing and Google goes "HERE'S HOW TO FIND THE TOTALLY AWESOME SECRET REFERENCE IN TEARS OF THE KINGDOM"
My biggest problem with Tears of the Kingdom is the Sages' Vows. Yes, really. The abilities on their own are really cool: a horizontal wind gust (perfect for getting a contraption going); a one-time shield that you can throw off a la Leaf Shield (helps with some of the more annoying bosses); a fast spindash projectile with low cooldown (wasting durability on ore deposits no more!); and a precise and powerful lightning strike. The catch is that you have to walk up to one of the four hologram sages and press A, and then press A again, and then do the thing. Also the noises they make are annoying, and they make combat encounters even more mindless than before. I don't mind mindless combat, I'm a Sonic Heroes fan for crying out loud, but when the AI kills all the enemies for me before I can even get accquainted with what's going on, it's just really annoying. And trying to activate a Vow during combat? Lol. Don't even try. The Sages' Vows are all seemingly for the sake of giving Link companions to fight alongside, which I can admire for story reasons, but it just doesn't translate well to gameplay beyond small novelties. Still, you can turn them off so it's not a huge deal for me.

The vows only make sense in three scenarios - gliding with Tulin and driving with Yunobo (since it's automatically on the ready), and Mineru's mech (you activate it same way as a horse which makes sense). Everything else though, I never use.

My problems with the Vows were further amplified today when I got the Earthwake ability. Without a weapon equipped, hold the attack button and you'll send a small crater forward, and when you let go a rock spike comes out. I've found it perfect for dealing with low-health monsters like Stalkoblins and the little frog things in the Depths. No need to waste my weapons or arrows on them anymore, and it looks awesome! Now, imagine how much more fun that would be if it had a 7 second cooldown, and was activated by a green Master Kohga who follows you around and "helps" you fight monsters, but makes a really annoying sound every time you start or stop gliding or climbing a wall. Yeah...

So why not just have the Sages' Vows abilities be more passive, like Earthwake or the Champion abilities of BotW? When you start aiming an arrow, Ruji appears alongside you and there's a prompt to press A - if you do, she activates the lightning field. When you're shielding, Sidon's shield appears, and whiffing a parry is what makes it fly forward. Tulin's is activated by holding X (same as Revali's), and maybe Yunobo's is activated upon performing a dash attack. And since you can turn off the Vows, none of these would be a nuisance. Also, just have the Sages float around Link instead of following him on foot, or just make them appear whenever there's a combat encounter or whenever one of their abilities is/can be activated.

I know you can turn off the Vows but I don't think that means I shouldn't complain - it's still a missed opportunity, and one that I'm constantly thinking about whenever I have a Sage's Vow active in TotK.
Y'know, if the right people talk to the right higher-ups, I think Disney doing a "The Guy Who Shot Babmi's Mom" D+ movie/series is totally a possibility, especially if it's pitched as a Captain Rainbow type deal where it's filled to the brim with Disney "rejects". Companies love to be like "we don't shy away from our faults, lol!" and instead of exploitation and stuff, the faults is like, Companion Character That Actively Made The Movie Worse, and, Movie That Was Made Worse By Companion Character II: Squiglo's Revenge (direct to VHS)
I may have said this before, but unless a game just has super stiff controls, I don't think there's a platformer that has bad movement. For example, after I beat Sonic Heroes and found it to be the most fun to control of any of the 3D Sonics, I was surprised that most people thought it had awful physics and that was the main criticism of the game. I think it's because I just liked learning the game's quirks and taking advantage of them. For example, you can buffer a swap to another character while in midair even though you won't be able to until you hit the ground. When you do, you'll have all the momentum you built up as the previous character. So it's really fun to drop down as Sonic with all the speed you could want, buffer a swap to Tails, and then instantly get a nitro boost with great maneuverability and extra jumps as soon as I hit the ground. I also had to be super careful when using the Power attacks near ledges, so sometimes if there was a key there, I'd have to position myself very carefully and pick a god, pray, and press B. I know that doesn't sound fun, but it really is! I also felt this way about the dash in Mighty No. 9 (although I didn't like the artstyle very much so that's why I stopped playing it), Shadow The Hedgehog (it's like ice skating!), and...well I have not played that many bad platformers but I'll try to get around to some more.

I do not, however, apply this logic to two things, pre-slide Mega Man and Sonic '06/Frontiers. The former I think is fine because you can get fun out of trying to run at your set pace throughout the whole level, so even though the movement is boring it's not something I actually think about at all, the level design is engaging enough. '06 and Frontiers are exceptions to the "bad controls" thing in the opposite direction to Mega Man 1&2, because their movement is so stiff and so many parts of it feel like they're actively trying to take away player freedom unless you know speedrun techniques, and I do not think you should have to be good at speedrun techniques to enjoy a game to the full extent (lookin' at you Celeste DLC).
I do think there is a lot of truth to "gen z is too offended by everything!", exaggerated as it is, and "offended" might not be the right word. More like "overcomplicates things too much" or "overexaggerates". For example, I struggle with imposter syndrome, so as a quick explanation, basically I oftentimes do not feel like myself (i.e. overthinking it and being like "what would I do in this situation? idk" and question my worth to my friends. So I saw an article yesterday reccommended to me on the Firefox home page and it was something like "The Real Reason Behind Your Imposter Syndrome." And I was like "oh sweet, maybe whatever's in here could help me." And then the article proceeded to tell me that imposter syndrome was nothing more than a mysogynistic scheme meant to keep women out of the workforce and I can't let those dirty white men tell me what to do, I won't let their Imposter-Effect_Inator affect me!...except I am a white man. So what the hell does that mean for my imposter syndrome? The logic in the article wasn't not sound, they got from point A to B with the word origin and how it's evolved over the years, Maybe it would've been better if they worded it differently? Like, imposter syndrome had mysogynistic origins but now is an actual psychological term that helps plenty of men and women get the help they need.

I do think a huge part of the problem here has to do with journalism and clickbait.

"The Real Reason Behind Your Imposter Syndrome" is much more attention grabbing as a title then "The Reason Imposter Syndrome is So Common in Women". But it's also very problematic since it treats everyone as the same.
The influx of Eventide-type shrines in TotK probably means plenty of people agree with me on this already, but I think that BotW type Zelda is at its best when its a survival game. When the combat encounters themselves are the puzzles - and I don't just mean "when you fight a X, do Y", I mean like how in one of the shrines you can choose to snipe all the constructs after sneakstriking the first one for his arrows, you can run them all over in a tiny car, you can run them all over in a big car, you can strap some spikes to the front of your car and then run them all over, you can go up to where the Wing is and use it to rain down Flame Emitter fire from above, etc. Or like Master Trial stuff where you try to save certain weapons, arrows, and meals for certain enemies you know you'll be fighting later, because you died to them earlier thanks to poor resource management.

What I like about TotK is that it has more of that stuff. It knows that there should be a good balance between feeling like an unstoppable badass and feeling like an underdog scavenger. The progression and reward of unlocking stronger and stronger monster parts only adds to that. I still wish the whole game was a survival open-world type deal, but I definitely see where the devs wanted to take this, I respect it, and besides, game's always fun and I never think about this stuff while playing it so idek why I typed all this
