You are forced to pay large sums of money to support people you do not want to support.
Yeah, that's still not socialist. In fact, that's exactly how insurance works, even in a capitalist system. The healthy people end up paying for the sick people, and they get profits off the left overs.

Now let me ask you something, all of you.
Do you like the idea that all of this money, these billions of dollars are going to be coming from you and the rest of the populace?
Let me ask you, how is this not already happening? What do you think taxes do? Taxes are you paying for systems that you may or may not use to provide for the entire population. Even more, you fail to recognize the bigger issue here. When someone who doesn't have health insurance comes into the hospital, where do they go? The emergency room, as by the oath they take, the doctor must help them, even when they can not pay. Where do you think that money goes? Do you think that the person just walks out, and all that equipment that was used on him just happens to be magically payed for? No, YOU pay for it. It comes up in your bill. So, you are going to be paying for their medical treatment one way or another. In fact, you already are.
[/QUOTE]

That is why it is unconstitutional and that is why like 13 states are banning this in their state.
No, its not unconstitutional.
We are required to buy car insurance, are we not? Now, before you say "that's a choice," no, no it isn't. Transportation is NOT a choice in America, not at all, nor more than breathing is. Its a required item to live and function within our society. Its not at all an option, unless you live in a few select cities like New York. For 90 percent of America, this is NOT an option.
Furthermore, the federal government does have the right to do this, based on the enumerated powers clause, which grants the federal government the right to control anything within the realms of our commerce. Health care takes up a huge portion of our national GDP, more than enough for it to fall in the lines of the enumerated power clause.

As to dispell those claiming it as unconstitional, the state where I live, one of the states filing for this suit, requires that each year you must purchase a car inspection this state requires you to get a yearly checkup on your automobile. Its funny, because the members said in a quote "Never in the history of this country has the government demanded the purchase of a good or service"

Now, in the debate hall, though I didn't properly respond, Jam excused this since they were done by the state. No, that's not true at all. The states must follow under all guidelines set by the constitution, as well as those set by the federal governments, thus putting them under even more regulation than the federal government.
On top of down sizing companies AND outrageous taxes, no one will be able to pay and live at the same time. If you do not pay, it is jail for you.

Where does this put? The second Great Depression.
We are living it.
What are you talking about? This is hardly a depression at all. And i'd also like to point out that it was LACK of government intervention that put us here in the first place.

However, if you look at consumer spending habits over the last 30 years, compared to current spending habits, you see that the States were in truth nothing more than an economy propelled by consumer debt. Each year, the average house hold was spending more than they made on commodities, TVs, cars, things that were bringing no potential of future income into their house hold, and were only racking up debt based on the idea of the continued progress of the States, and the potential of their own income increasing with it. This isn't a depression, it isn't a true recession, its a return to healthy, normal spending habbits, and until companies stop overworking their current employees and filing large amounts of overtime, and until people stop saving for fear of the worst, things aren't going to improve, unless Americans get stupid again and start taking out loans to buy cars and tvs.

Also, what Ophry fails to recognize and point out is that the price of health insurance is dropping, and much of the money you will spend on health care you will get back on your tax returns as health insurance now becomes a big deductible, for both companies and individuals who chose to purchase it for themselves.

Forcing health care upon American citizens and penalizing them for not using it is unconstitutional and absurd.
Forcing me to pay for a war I don't want should also be unconstitutional and absurd.
Keeping homosexuals from marrying and openly serving in the military is also unconstitutional and absurd.
Wiretapping is also unconstitutional and absurd.

Yet no one ever complains about these things. I guess it's because conservatives thought these things up and in order to keep from being called 'partisan' the majority of the left say nothing about them

Also, like other government run programs like (Social Security, USPS, Medicare, etc.) this health care reform will spiral into setting our country back in much much debt.
Because the country's solution to everything, keep cutting taxes, have NOTHING to do with it from not being able to pay for them.

Not to mention that the CBO said that the bill will reduce the deficit.

And I like how people only care about the national debt when a Democrat is in charge. Typical

If you are a large employer (defined as at least 101 employees) and you do not want to provide health insurance to your employee, then you will pay a $750 fine per employee (It could be $2,000 to $3,000 under the reconciliation changes). (Section 1513)

^Expect some downsizing by a lot of companies. This bill is very ridiculous.
And considering that actually buying the insurance will be much less per person, what's the problem again.

That is why it is unconstitutional and that is why like 13 states are banning this in their state. My state is at a 9 9 right now so someone has to buy someone out.
Several states also left the Union during the civil war. I guess by your logic, because those states threw a hissy fit, slavery should still be legal.

On top of down sizing companies AND outrageous taxes, no one will be able to pay and live at the same time. If you do not pay, it is jail for you.
Taxes are at a record low. Why can't conservatives fathom that?

I don't know how you guys still try to outweigh the cons with the pros of this bill.

Sure the pros of this bill are there like getting clients witih pre-existing conditions covered.

But the cons of this bill are EXTREMELY ridiculous compared to the pros. Also, for those saying it will help the economy, if that is true we will not be seeing those benefits for a LONG time. During that time period, it is uncertain what events could happen.

Like I said before, other government ran programs have set our debt to high amounts. This health care bill will do the same, it could lead to a financial collapse.

It also makes business's with 40 employees or more to provide healthcare, causing businesses to lay off more people and not able to expand. My dad was almost going to expand his business because rel-estate is really cheap right now. However now it won't even be worth all the stress and then realize he will actually be making less money. Tell me, why shouldn't smaller businesses who meet this cut not downsize? I sure as hell would. This ****s up the economy brah.

@greenkirby, almost everything you said is irrelevant to this bill.

Ophy, we are already HEAVILY invested in the health system. In fact, this SAVES our government money, it cuts the amount of money spent by our government down gradually over 10 years. Its not going to add to the debt, its going to reduce it. As I've stated before, this doesn't increase our governments involvement in health care. Its already a government run program, this just relocated where we put our efforts, and actually takes off some of the responsibilities off the federal and state government.

Secondly, your father shouldn't be that concerned, as he can also get that money back during tax returns. He also has until the year 2014 until the penalties start, and when they start, they are as small as about 14 dollars for that year, and increase over the next 5 years after that until they get to the figure you mentioned earlier, and by then, insurance prices will drop to a level that it will be such a small amount, that it won't make very much difference to his expenses.

I am in class so I cannot adress every issue, but I will adress how this is Socialist.

I just recently got car insurance, I have never paid for it before.
One of my grandma's does not have car insurance. I also have an uncle the seem way. They don't drive. I know maybe 7 other people the same way.
*You are wrong*

Taxes are not the same as a health care reform.
A tax is the Government simply grabbing money from you and spending it on programs such as the war or the road. You are required to do your part because you use it.
This is a service. You are forced to buy this one and ONLY service against your will. This service will take care of the maitence of your body.
THAT is why it is unconstitutional. The states that did not get the majority of voters to vote this bill in are taking this reform to court and rejecting it.

Question: do these 7 people work? Do these 7 people support a family? Do these 7 people live in one of the few cities with a true system of public transportation?
You are wrong, arrogant, and probably well off.

Taxes are the same as this, because its exactly what your taxes are doing now. Your taxes pay for MANY things that you DON'T use and will NEVER use. Have you ever ate at a soup kitchen or stayed in a homeless center, or do you receive disability payments from the government? No, but your taxes pay for it.

Also, you still haven't told me how this is socialist. Please point to what new government run industry is created or what government takeover of any industry there is. This isn't socialism, not by the least, and socialism is not unconstitutional, and as stated before, our constitution requires a certain degree of socialism.

If you think socialism in anything in this country is right, then stop calling yourself American and refer to friends as comrad.
Whats so bad about socialism? You seem to think that 1984 is what all socialism countries are like. As long as socialism doesn't cross the border into communism, it is an OK government. Its just stupid how people think socialism is evil, especially when they know next to nothing about it.

I don't know what Health Care reform you are talking about Green Kirby but this one provides federal funds (tax payer dollars) for abortion operations.

This reform is unconstitutional because the Government is forcing the populace to pay for something they do not want to pay for.
http://www.constitution.org/mil/mil_act_1792.htm

That is why there are like 13 states rejecting this.
They would probably reject it regardless.

75% of the United States says no according to a recent poll. Our representatives did not represent what we wanted.

Thus, it is Socialist.

Green Kirby, you have made fun of my sources but it is clear to me that you have none and that is why you do not know what you are talking about. If you want to discuss this bill please do not talk about things that people already know about and have known about. Talk about the possible gun taxes or something that others don't know that much about. That way we can all advance our knowledge on the Health Care reform.
How can anyone take you seriously when you're peddling lies and misinformation? Seriously? federally funded abortions? Where in the bill does it say that, cite your concerns from the bill it's self.

ps It states that dangerous people will have an extra tax. People with guns are dangerous.

I don't ****ing believe this. NOW the Republicans may propose a public option

Senate Republicans may propose an amendment to the health care reconciliation bill for a "public option." If they do, Senate Democrats plan to vote it down in order to keep the bill identical to the House bill that passed Sunday evening.

The Republican idea is to "embarrass" the Democrats into voting against an insanely popular proposal that the Republicans totally opposed, but will appear, at least for one brief shining moment, to champion.

Senate Democrats should give this a sober second-thought -- assuming, that is, that the public option proposed is workable, and not a sham -- and vote "yea".

The politics are perfect. It would pass by more than 60 votes. Republicans could no longer claim that the Democrats' bill was a government takeover or socialism. It would immediately bend the cost curve. It would drive a permanent wedge between the Tea Party whackos and whatever remains of the "mainstream" conservative Republicans of William F Buckley, Jr. And, it would be bipartisan!

Most importantly, it may be the only chance for a long time to get a public option, and its positive impact on health care, wellness, and costs would redound to the benefit of the country many times over.

The House already passed a public option in its original health care reform bill. The votes are there to amend the reconciliation bill passed on Sunday to incorporate a public option. I am well-aware (and wrote) that prolonging the process has been one of the major reasons the whole healthcare reform effort lost political support.

But, it is now done. And, an extra few days to get the amended bill passed in the House will save us billions of dollars, trillions of words of insane rhetoric, and gazillions of hours wrangling over it in the future.

Call their bluff. If anyone thinks they are angry now, wait until their own unwittingly conspire to help pass a public option!
We've literaily went an entire 360.

Oh, well in that case, congratulations!

When you look at it, the nature of this health care plan is far more Corporatist than it is Socialist. It involves private companies in the process. The public option was removed from the bill. We do not have health care being run by the federal government outside of the VA hospital system. I just really don't know how to convince you it's not socialist if you're dead-set on believing that it is. I'm not saying it's the best possible system, but it's not Socialist.

Blown completely out of proportion.
Generalisationtopia, in my opinion.
Blatant. ****ing. Lie.Don't you know that every **** time we go to the hospital, our costs are ridiculously high to pay for those that are uninsured. That's why a ****ing band-aid is $50.
Please, just back up some of the ridiculous **** your spewing with some legitimate sources, okay?
Just because you live in your white picket fenced American Dream mother****ing house and your family has "worked hard" to get there doesn't mean that anyone below you on the social ladder are lazy crack fiends. Do you think people want to live in the ghetto? Are you ****ing stupid?
Although I like this.

The idea that it will be lower quality care comes from the idea that more people are using it, which I find horribly silly. With less patience going to the emergency room because they are unemployed, it will provide higher quality, more efficient care.

This doesn't even increase government control over health care, it only puts some regulations on health insurance companies.

No, you don't pay attention, do you? They added a bill that prevents even PRIVATE INSURANCE (something that could happen before this bill) from paying for abortions. Try again.

Nor will they be able to get it. You don't know what you are talking about, do you? You are just repeating bull **** you've heard from dumb ****ers.

Where the god **** ****ing **** did you get this idea? That's not true at all, the basis for this is on an article that takes something that already exist on a state level and moves it to a Federal level to save money. SO, either this already happens, but is done by the states, or there are no old people being killed.

HA! No wonder. The internet is a cess pool for propaganda, false information, and for those who are hungry to fuel their unjustified anger. EVERYTHING you have said here is false, I'm not even going to pick apart some of the horribly stupid, completly unbased things, but I got those above. Hey. Hey you. Close your mouth, please.

The ONLY REASON THE BILL WAS SIGNED was the fact that Obama signed an EXECUTIVE ORDER banning the use of federal funds for abortions.

It means felons, repeat offenders, etc. >_>

Personally, I just don't like the fine for not having insurance and the extra stuff in the bill (like the money going to different states for stuff unrelated to health care). Other than that, it seems like a decent bill.

You'd have to be crazy to say that health care didn't need fixing.

#1 This is Socialist. IDC how much you debate over it, that is what it is. You can call sh*t crap, dung, fecies, poop, fertilizer (lol) or turds, but in the end the ugly truth is that it is still sh*t.

#2 The money that we have to fork out is absurd.

#3 This health care reform IMO is more about paying for the countries debt than it is about taking care of its people.

#4 There are good benefits in this. Let me repeat that for you. There are good benefits in this. HOWEVER! There are also bad. ie the freakin cost.
The reason why it is good is because there is a lot of money being spent, the reason why it is bad is that the money is coming from us. That and if you fail to pay for it you face up to 2,500$ I believer + possible 6 months of jail time.

ps Yeah, now that I have examined it more I was wrong about the abortions. I read false information from multiple places + people had been talking about it. If I had known it was false I would not have said anything. I didn't get riled up over it though.

So a health care bill that uses a market based approach to insuring 30 million more people is a socialist bill? You do realize this is a bill that was offered by republicans in 1992 right? This bill is the opposite of socialism. Socialism would have been like Canada or England. This current bill moves more toward a French or Swiss System.

Unless you want to call mixed markets socialism, which so utterly wrong.

#2 The money that we have to fork out is absurd.

#3 This health care reform IMO is more about paying for the countries debt than it is about taking care of its people.
It's killing two birds with one stone, it'll lower the national debt and insure 30 million more people.

According to The Monitor, the mandate will be enforced by tax penalties. The uninsured would have to pay, beginning in 2014, $695 for each uninsured family member, up to a maximum of $2,085, or 2.5 percent of household income, whichever is greater.
From:

http://blogs.findlaw.com/law_and_life/2010/03/heath-care-what-is-the-universal-mandate.html

The benefits out weight the negatives, this is a good first step and we can only improve it from here. This is by no way a means to an end, it's not over it's just beginning.

YES! YOU are forced to buy a SERVICE. You aren't taxed to fund an organization. You are forced to pay into (not taxed) a health care service. That makes it socialist.
Socialism is unconstitutional.

The majority of the money will not be in insuring people, it will be going to China.

This is exactly like the war following 9/11.
People wont be pissed until they are effected. After this has been in affect for 6 months or so people will start complaining about the OUTRAGEOUS cost it takes to have this reform.

First six months actually look pretty good, you keep complaining about the cost, but the cost of doing nothing is more in the long run.

Socialism is unconstitutional.
The 2nd congress forced all White 18 year old males to buy their own equipment for war. It wasn't offered to you or taxed to pay for it. You had to buy it your self. It's the exact same thing, hell today we force people to buy car insurance.

The majority of the money will not be in insuring people, it will be going to China.
At least offer a link if you're going to make baseless accusations like that.

To me the frightened exclamations that the average right-wing American makes when they hear the word 'socialism' are completely incomprehensible...

What's the big deal with socialism? You use it like a cuss word while it's just a political theory about the ideal way to organize society (and while history has proven that it is far from perfect, it has very good aspects and I believe a socialist party is a great asset to any government). The "American Dream" where everyone has equal chances to pursue happiness is like a patriottic ideal, yet any reform that attempts to create more equality in society and to distribute those chances to pursue happiness more equally is met with distrust and pathetic yells of how 'liberty is dying', 'communists are taking over' and 'Stalin is invading'. THE COLD WAR IS OVER. Get over it; any European country is five times as "socialist" as the US is and unsurprisingly, Joe the Plumbers would be much better off here. They just won't accept it themselves because they start having spasms as soon as any remotely left-wing idea, no matter how good it might be, gets proposed.

Now, as I'm not American, I obviously can't completely understand what's going on... but personally I cannot see why Obama's health care plan is so controversial; it isn't even remotely as 'socialist' as the Dutch one and our health care system is way cheaper and works five times better.

Also, since when do Republicans worry so much about debts? Your completely useless and incredibly expensive war in Iraq was started off by a Republican president?

TL;DR: je ne comprends pas.

Again Savior, socialisim is not unconstitutional.

In the 1980s, Ronald Regan socialized the job of Air Traffic Controller when they threatened to strike. This action was never considered unconstitutional.
The constitution even REQUIRES the creation of certain socialist organizations, and specifically allows and demands the federal government to partake in socialist behavior.

@ Aesir We don't force people to buy car insurance at all, you don't get penalized for not owning a vehicle.

But this bill is now going to penalize you for not having HI. That in itself, right there, is unconstitutional.

By itself, forcing the American people to PAY for a service is unconstitutional, regardless if we use it or not.

Sooooo. . . . . . . a tax is unconstitutional?

And actually, as he already linked, no its not. The fed CAN require you to buy OR sell something. Many of the nations electric and water companies are forced monopolies, forcing people to purchase the business from them, and then regulating their business.

@ Aesir We don't force people to buy car insurance at all, you don't get penalized for not owning a vehicle.
Owning Car insurance =/= Owning Vehicle.

But this bill is now going to penalize you for not having HI. That in itself, right there, is unconstitutional.
Based on what? The government has forced people to buy services in the past.

By itself, forcing the American people to PAY for a service is unconstitutional, regardless if we use it or not.
Where are you getting this idea from? Please cite the source.

I'm in class now, so I'll defend my arguements later

But how are you going to say that owning car insurance does not equal owning a vehicle. That's just stupid.

Because when you own a car you can't drive it on the roads unless you have car insurance. That's why.
That was my comparison. If you dont own a car, you dont pay for car insurance. The bill is FORCING us to pay for health insurance, even if we dont use it
