I've come to the conclusion that my Taekwondo academy is a McDojang. Our classes have over 30 people so it's more of an aerobics class than a martial arts class. In our academy, you reach black belt in 3.5 years, as opposed to the 13 years of training that my Shotokan Karate dojo imposed. It's incredibly easy to gain ranks in our dojang and form/technique is never seriously studied. They also hand out black belts to 6 year olds. IMO, the black belt is an object of discipline, prestige and master of a martial art. Handing black belts out to inexperienced fighters and young children make me question that.
On a side note, my masters are more than qualified to teach, but I think they're just taking advantage of the opportunity to make easy money through these classes.
