I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with using the codes that are released but use the proper names give proper credit and don't just take what is already encrypted.

Oh and here's a crazy idea, why don't you ask to use the codes?

About the Brawl+ codes: These codes do not belong to anyone. Do you want AA to find a different way to make the same code? Modifications to the same game shouldn't be limited to a single outcrop. As it stands now, everyone except The Cape that's been complaining about the codes being stolen has been trolling in my eyes.

How about we limit textures to just Brawl+? Limit infinite replays to vBrawl? You're being elitests and need to understand that we are not split up. WE ARE A SINGLE SMASH COMMUNITY.

You ar enot a programmer. We didn't release our codes to the public. Would you like it if you wrote a shareware program, and someone reverse engineered your hard work and just released it to the public? Get off your high horse. If you did hard work and someone shamefully steals it, you wouldn't happy either.

The fact is, Thinkaman & AA did NOTHING to help make this code, and we wanted it in our set for our work. If we were to release it, (when it was done with attackIDs, etc), we could choose to release it. The fact that he reverse engineered our GCT instead of PMing us to ask for it just shows his character.

Good luck in the real world with that attitude.

Okay, seriously... what the **** is wrong with you? I support the Brawl+ project more than the bBrawl project, but **** like this is making me reconsider.
The issue is we didnt even release our throw mod. IT WASNT DONE YET.

Notice how it can't modify attackIDs yet? Yeah, the ICs infinite fix isnt done yet either.

Instead of asking to test our codes, they reverse engineer and steal them? See why we are pissed?

I'm going to ask this again because you didn't answer. Do you want AA to remake the same exact code? You released Brawl+ to the open.

Here, I made you a chocolate cake. But you can't make cake now that I made cake. Pie is fine, but not cake.

Maybe if you guys didn't act like socialists and run it all closed source they wouldn't of had to get the code themselves.

I would like some cake.

They stole some code, it sucks but its business. Pretty much every programmer and definitely every script kiddie has used code that is not their own. It happens everyday, every hour. Nothing you can do about it. it sucks for PK because it was his code and he SHOULD get full credit for the code somewhere in the projects documentation, but its how the cookie crumbled... Just leave it, its really not worth arguing about, its not like anything will change.

What they did wasn't ethical but nothing can be done about it. So just leave it.

You just completely ignored what Shanus said.

The code wasn't released to the public yet, so they instead took it from an encrypted file format (the .gct) instead of asking to use the code before its public release.

It wasn't that BBrawl creators can't use the code, its how they obtained it. It shows a big lack of disrespect to those who put there hard work and time into creating it for B+ use.
The proper thing would have been to wait until it was publicly released, or go and ask the B+ coders for permission to use the code.

Maybe if you guys didn't act like socialists and run it all closed source they wouldn't of had to get the code themselves.
The code wasn't finished yet. It would have been released when it was done, so don't act like the BBrawl users would have never gotten to use the code.
I don't know how well this would carry over, but perhaps those coding for BBrawl should be in the WBR? It's not like the Workshop is B+ only, and it would be wrong to treat the WBR as such, despite how it was made for B+. We aren't the only project here anymore, and something like the WBR should reflect that IMO. It would resolve any future issues involving codes if they were in the WBR.

Ever think that AA or whoever simply didn't think he would need to ask for something that's available to the public? You still don't get that we are one community. We shouldn't be PMS'ing over each other using our available resources that we make available for the betterment of the community as a whole. It's your elitest attitudes that start this. I hate to say it, but the B+ community just seems to be full of them.

Again you aren't reading very well.

IT WASN'T AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC YET.

Notice how the code wasn't released yet? That implies NOT publicly available yet.
The B+ coders are just pissed that their work was stolen before it was released to the public. That is perfectly reasonable.

I don't like BBrawl in regards to play, but I respect its existence. I can't say the same for every B+ player, but that has nothing to do with why people are pissed off right now. It's the fact that a code was stolen from B+ coders. Not that we were here first, we like our game better, or any of that.

I'm sure AA and Think will properly credit the creators of the throw modifiers. You're both nonprofit organizations, there's no reason to be so hostile and uncompromising.

Then how'd he get the .gct if it wasn't available yet?
Just because the .gct is there, doesn't mean the code itself is public yet.
If the code was made to be public, you would see a comprehensive txt file with all the codes used. If it was public, you would see it in the code listing here in the Workshop.

The .gct is an encrypted file, that they reverse engineered to get the code without permission.
They essentially stole the code.
That's the problem.

Though the damage has been done, nothing can be done about that.

It is available, and getting its contents is very easy once someone in the IRC kindly demonstrated how to do so.

However, the real issue is of course ownership. As end-users we only want to use the program and tools the creators have compiled. Very often we don't care about the process involved, and cannot sympathize about ownership and the entitlements of the end-user in regards to the programs they utilize.

But the method to obtain the Throw Mod was considered stealing.

to take (the property of another or others) without permission or right, esp. secretly or by force: A pickpocket stole his watch.

PK only gave permission to the B+ team to use the throw mod. He never formally released it outside of the B+ .gct, which was meant to only be utilized...to play Brawl+.

The wrong here is that PK was never asked permission. Apparently never anyway. Therefore...

it is now an issue of ethnics more than anything.

Naturally you'll all ignore this or twist it somehow because let's face it, both projects are full of themselves. I think I wanted to ask who has the higher horse though. *shrug*

This

Is it mentioned in the OP or somewhere on SWF that the throw mod is for B+ ONLY?
Irrelevant. PK is the creator of the code, he can dictate how it is to be used.

He is one entity of the WBR. The WBR itself doesn't own the throw mod so to speak.

Take that as you will.

Well if the other codes are fine interchangably, who's to say he didn't know the throw mod wasn't? How would he know that certain code was not allowed to be moved?

I was asked to do an illustration for the Brawl+ logo. But according to you guys, since the character is not "owned" by me or the Brawl+ project, that means anyone else making a hacked version of Brawl is free to use my image and plaster it all over their website/thread to promote their project without asking. I have no say in who can use it and I can't tell anyone not to because the character doesn't belong to me. You don't need to ask me, because what's the point? I'd just be greedy if I said no. So here, have it. It's not like I can stop you.

Thinkaman actually came onto our IRC channel and stated that he went inside our .GCT file and dug it out.

If its not publically released on the .txt, the we dont want people digging for it now do we?

Thats what got me all up in arms about this.

Jokey, You shouldn't like one project more than the other because of a petty argument like this.

You should like the one that is more fun to play for you.

==============================================================

I'll say this once, If you don't care. DON'T get involved in this argument. Your going to get flamed and wrecked hard.

If he told you straight up that he did, then he probably didn't have the negative intentions that everyone is putting on him. Instead this broke out into a silly argument.

1) He tried to tell us that its completely possible for anyone to decrypt a gct to make a txt
2) Then he implied that PK gave him permission to use and post teh code, which he most certainly did not
3) Thats like texting someone you know and saying "oh, btw, when i was at your house today, i photocopied those documents marked 'confidential - do not read' because they looked like some other papers you had lying around." Just cause i tell you i did something doesnt make it right

This isn't just a silly argument. This .GCT had a beta throw mod that wasn't intended for people to use (because it was a beta, meaning incomplete). Thinkaman just decided to extract the code and not just do that, but also post it to the public.

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=204677&page=763

He did edit it out. Although he may not mean no harm to the coders, what he did was kind of disrespectful. What Thinkaman should do now to resolve the problem is to apologize to the coders and kindly ask permission for the beta code. That way, there is no hard feelings. Don't turn this into a ugly monster, ok?

Well as long as there is no double standard it shouldn't matter and will get resolved.

As long as BOTH PARTIES ask each other to use the codes and give credit to each other it shouldn't matter.

Well then imagine yourself this situation, Say that you just finished a computer program that you have been working for a very long time and you were about to do the final tests for it.
But then you hear from a good friend of yours that he took your computer program without asking directly and says that he will release it for you to the public. What if the program wasn't completely ready and was like 85% finished? What if there were still bugs in it or critial errors? You can imagine 2 things that can happen:

1. Your friend who has released the computer program will get praised and get alot of credit for it even tho he did absolutely nothing for the program and the public will frown at or even hate the real programmer for not releasing it much earlier even we your friend says that it is your work from 0% to 100%.

2. After a few days from the day the computer program has been released, people has discovered alot of bugs, glitches or/and that it is incomplete even and they complain on how crappy the program actually is because the creator didn't do (or rather didn't got the chance to) the final steps to polish the program.

They wont blame your friend because after all he is just the messager and people will go all nerd-rage and berserk on you on how badly you screwed up the program and even if they blamed your friend, your friend will yell that he is just the messager and that it is your work so don't shout on him and then your complete reputation as a programmer was been destroyed.

If you were the programmer and 1 of the 2 situations happens to you, You would be extremely pissed too right? Just saying:p

Honestly, would it be hard to make this the official version? It combines the official names, and therefore proper crediting, and the descriptions to make it easier to explor. Took like 20 seconds to make too.

This is an edited version that has the official names plus the effects as described by Thinkman and AA's coding in parathenesis. If I mixed anything, I'll be glad to fix it.

Personally I don't think brawl is unbalanced to the extent that it needs to be hacked. Sure high tier characters like Meta Knight are good, but they're not unbeatable. Heck, most of his match-ups are near even. I feel people should wake up from this Balanced Brawl and Brawl + dream world and just play brawl how it was meant to be played.

Also I don't get why you took out chain-grabs and yet made it easier to combo.

To answer you concisely and non-flamingly, as I'm certain some might deign to, the simple fact is that some of us would enjoy Brawl more if all characters were equally viable.

Also, Balanced Brawl does not make it easier to combo.

Thank you, adumbrodeus. I'm sure Amazing Ampharos will swap out the texts when he returns and we can all have our "picnic" together.

You must have compiled the .txt version yourself. Turn off the "debug pause" and "frame advance" codes; they are off by default and when turned on replace the pause feature with a "debug pause" system that is really useful for gathering frame data... but obnoxious for general use.
