Advice for vs marth? I think I do amazing(for pichu) I can beat my brother fairly well I won with 2 stocks last match and it was on and off win/lose but I won more solidly, which is funny because I then played marth dittos and I have much better tech skill and spaceing but he won more solidly. Do tiers exist? LOL


I've also 2 stocked SALT's marth if people know him.

But yeah advice like how far should you light sheild or whatever vs his up-B lol his up-B made me go into the tumble frames and miss the edge

first things first, you 2 stocked salt? ****, even if it wasn't his peach, his marth is still pretty good, like he 2 stocked my falcon and my pika with marth, but I wanted him to play peach but he didn't. In summary, salt is the ****.

zig, what you did to n64, chad did to me :-) Not that I think I could beat myztek, but it was definitely not as fun as fighting a fox who doesn't know the matchup.

but vs marth, omg its prolly my favorite matchup. Like you kinda play marth the way everyone plays marth, cept its easier and harder in certain sitiations. You always gotta be baiting the f smash, while staying out of range, and once that f smash comes out, get inside him, and do like 25 percent, cause your not gonna have alot of chances. I like to nair > nair or uair > anything (pika prolly has it easier than alot of characters here do to descent speed). Alot of times marths will put super pressure on you and lock you into a corner, just keep your head, cause they really want you to roll or something stupid that they can punish.
idk, I really wanna say alot more, but I feel other people would give better advice than I would.

i couldn't agree more =) pikachu's speed helps him SO much in this matchup. i'd rather fight marth with pikachu than any other character i have. i think it's pretty fun lol. i do play fox also, and i know he's faster, but whenever i try to fight a marth player with my fox, i get WRECKED! and i know my fox isn't THAT much worse than my pikachu or falco. definitely my 3rd best character. but when i fight a marth, the moment i get hit, it'll be like a 0 to death, or just like an easy gimp or something. whereas with pikachu, it only costs a little bit of damage when you mess up. although i can get in hits easier with fox, pikachu doesn't get punished anywhere near as hard as fox does. pikachu's so much more safe for me.

and the same thing goes for falco. just like 1 hit and i'm dead. like wtf man. it sux lol. i <3 pikachu

Yeah unless everyone was lieing about his name of course I got 4 stocked by his peach/marth the 1st round because I was playing P*** poor. and they were the only stocks I took from the match but yeah.

Really my whole plan is use tricks, mix up a lot and approach when needed like when I run away I like to jump away sometimes and B vs the normal appraoching B. Never get edge gaurd mix-up recover ALL the time. Also when fighting my brother's marth I thhhhhhhhhhhhhhiis close to getting nair nair to combo but he flew just a pinch to far.

I know if the marth is dumb zas pichu you can down-throw tech chase him a little then up-throw dair or something, buffer roll out of f-throw because otherwise your'll get grabed 5 times or more. I also know the best way for marth you follow-up with his throws vs pichu.

I know,but I'm pretty sure he switched the chars he was talking about mid post.

my logic:
1. He said when he played salt, and ICG has said many times that he doesn't actually like to play pika because his pichu is way better, and his pika is not so hott. So I'm assuming he played against salt as pichu.

2. He has also said that he comes in here to get pichu ideas since they are somewhat similar characters, I'm thinking his logic is that if pika has a certain strat/combo on marth, pichu might be able to pull it off as well.

I have never played as pikachu vs anyone and never touch him when playing as random people I will play as anyone but pikachu.

In truth I never talk about about pikachu other than when I talk about a pikachu only think like down-smash. But yeah in pokemon games pikachu>pichu but in all smash games pichu>>>>>pikachu in how much I love in them.

yes, because he has terrible landing lag. Edgeguarding Pikachu is like:

1. Grab Ledge
2. Pikachu has to land
3. ??????????????
4. Profit

Have you even heard of mewtwo?

Stretching=dislike. I have been hit many a time by falco's dair from onstage and it sent me down very far offstage due to these stupid mechanics.

mewtwo's recovery is actually pretty decent, you just need to be tricky about it.

Mewtwo's recovery is great. He is resistant to the "let them land and then homo them" strategy because of his monster double jump and lack of landing lag on teleport unless you fail and land directly on the stage and don't fall the inch needed for the low landing lag.

he LOVES to smash and dtilt. he almost never did any ftilts or jabs (if he jabbed, he would dsmash right after it)

so, after fighting this samus..... i was thinking about the post i made earlier.... and i was like..... everything that i said in that post went completely down the drain lol. he was extremely hard for me to fight =(

rofl, anthony saying easy stuff is hard. What do you mean just coming back and showing the different angles to sweet spot? Like I could make one for you, and hooray for you showing up in the pika boards.

also, I kinda agree with DJN, samus really isn't that hard, cause you know what to expect, You just gotta use your speed to your advantage. But then again, I've never fought hugs, I'm basing this off of the samuses I've played, which I guess I've only played against one decent one, then rat and ihsb. Like I would definitely say its in samuses favor, but not by much.

I had a samus in my smym pool, and I remember someone said you can ftilt her missles, and I remmebered that mid set, and started doing it, it was so amazing, but inevitably I ****ed the timeing up and took one to the face, and got missle edgegaurded. That is one thing I can't get around in this game is projectiles, I'm so bad against them.

just let go of your control stick after you angle down and towards the ledge. It's sorta tricky at first, but if you can do it with Fox/Falco, you can do it with Pikachu.

If pika had any kind of shield to speak of, I would say samus isn't that bad. You have the tools to beat her and she kinda has to chip away at you in most cases (while other chars have brutal combos/cgs). I've just had too many times where I'd hit late with something so I have time to shield, it gets CC'd, I shield, and get hit anyway, and then pikaaaaaaaaaaa.

I wouldn't quite call it even, but I think there are a lot of worse matchups for pika.

Watch anything with anther or axe in it. There are at least ten sweetspots per match. As for tips, try doing the first quick attack diagonally down onto the edge when you're offstage. That will both give you an idea of the spacing as well as the timing. After you've got that down, you can start working on double quick attack stuff.

Pikachu has a HUGE sweetspot why I hate him like as pichu his sweetspot is the size of his head, so I think pikachu's is much easier to use and it's only a little faster. Just know what your going to do and avoid being hit.

actually, you know who would know alot about this matchup? Someone who used to be roomates with a samus, chad should give us his thoughts

I know alot about the matchup. Thats why I said it lol. I've been playing Melee competitively since the beginning so I have a VAST knowledge about matchups, especially weird matchups like Pikachu vs. Samus. In addition, I'm a pro Pikachu player and pro Samus player so I should definitely know. Its not my fault n*ggas just suck against Samus with Pikachu or just suck against Samus in general lol.

Since Pikachu is the low tier version of Fox, its moveset gives Samus a really hard time. If Samus misses a grab, up-smash all day, up-smash to Thunder combo *****, f-tilt priority is too good against her, short hop nair is a good approach, Thunder Jolt like crazy, and once Samus is off stage, most of the time it should be her death lol. I'm not gonna go all specific about the matchup. Just take my word though. Its in Pikachu's favor as much as you or anyone else don't think its true.

Everyone here is saying that Fox goes even with Samus. If Pikachu is the low tier version of Fox, shouldn't that match-up be less than even? >_>

Samus vs Pika is wierd hahah..

Samus can't edgeguard pika very effectively but can still give you probs. Crouch canceling is annoying as hell, so don't n-air in much if she's trying to space with tilts and stuff...I dunno. It's back and forth IMO, Pika can kill Samus but Samus can play a decent spacing with tilts and CC game. It seems pika can also gain momentum and roll with it better than Samus cause he's just so much faster and mobile, you just gotta stay somewhat defensive and try to get the ball rolling and not be over-aggressive and let her capitalize on it.

I'm not sure who fares better in the matchup really..Me and IHSB have back and forth arguments about it hahah. I'd probably say Pika has a slight advantage, maybe IHSB can come and shed some light from the other side of the matchup. *goes to find him*

Also Fox gets edgeguarded a LOT easier than Pika which makes the matchup a lot more bearable for Samus. Pika has a much farther, quicker, and more versatile recovery whereas Fox goes one direction and can be called out and punished leaving him pretty dead if hit. But the trade off is lasers and a quicker, stronger character of course :X

Fox definitely doesn't go even with Samus. Wow, thats crazy. Of course its in Fox's favor. I know so much people that have told me they hate fighting Samus because you can't really combo her, she's boring to fight, and/or don't know what to do against her. People really need to learn how to fight Samus.

People's perspectives on matchups sometimes ends up coming down to people using a character against another character (lets say Fox vs. Samus) and since they suck at the matchup or they're not that good at the matchup, they just go with saying the character they lost to or keep losing to is automatically in their favor. Once they learn how to properly fight the character, they end up changing their mind and say the character they won with is in its favor lol.
