In the 80s through 2000s video games were marketed through how you'd feel like a badass when you win - maybe it was Dark Souls, maybe it was Meat Boy, maybe it was Happy Wheels, but some time in the early '10s video games became advertised in a more masochistic manner, building up how hard and frustrating they are, and I honestly feel I prefer that - even through such marketing would be much more fitting for the prior decades' games.
