Nintendo suing Palword for Poke Ball patents instead of the actual recorded asset-tracing is a type of practical idiocy I don't think I've seen from a major corporation before. I've seen corporations be evil before, I've seen them be uninformed about things that seem obvious outside of the capitalist bubble, I've seen their power be outsmarted by smaller entities, but I've never seen them just... come up with a stupid plan for something easy to win. Owning a gun but walking into a knife fight with bare fists.

People really forget that all the cool 80s-through-2000s aesthetics we're nostalgic for now were considered "corporate" at the time. I'm just barely old enough to remember when people said that about what we now call "Neo-UPA", certainly remember people taking about Frutiger Aero in that manner, and if you've been exposed to any satirical 90s content whatsoever you'd know just how bad the backlash against "x-treme" aesthetics was.

It's kinda weird to me how "everything you watched on YouTube as a kid was stolen from some other site!" is surfacing as this shocking new revelation - I knew that at the time when I was a kid, it wasn't hard info to come by or comprehend, and "someone else did this" was my assumption whenever I saw a funny internet video (I didn't realise "Icanrockyourworld" was the actual originator of the Gummy Bear song until I saw the description modified to promote the newer incarnations of the character years after the fact for instance).

It's kinda funny that "wrestling is fake" (or its edgier 2010s equivalent "anime is fake") was ever considered really an edgy thing to say at all, like it's equivalent to saying "superheroes are fake" or "fairy tales are fake", everyone knows that, but you don't really acknowledge it because you can't really have a story where you point out that it's fake all the time.

I find it a bit weird how people say Astro Bot is "just a giant ad", but give Smash the benefit of the doubt - considering Astro Bot doesn't use the character or game names at all, and treats the characters more like fun cameos than Smash's all-important vibe. Not that there isn't a marketing element to Astro Bot, but it's very clearly on, if not the lesser end, at least the subtler.

It's kinda funny how it took like 8 years for "cringe" to go from meaning "kids having fun" to either being used in an endearing manner or reserved for actually-bad-things, while "brainrot" took about 3 weeks to go from "anything children like" to a term of endearment.

The sensationalist culture surrounding Flappy Bird is (was?) really annoying. People acted like the takedown was this "dirty scandal" that "ruined someone's life", when in reality the game came back half a year later with a relatively big merchandise push, and it only really evaded view because it was on a really obscure platform.

I find it a bit strange that people didn't like the idea of the Powerpuff Girls as a trio in MVS - the way they fight in the show is by flying above one another as a single adult-sized unit and then splitting up one by one, I don't really get how or why you'd implement them any other way.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is a toys-for-life game. I don't make the rules. I'll give Ultimate and 3DS a pass (prior way downplayed Amiibos' importance in marketing, latter was only compatiable in comically situational circumstances) but like, look at the normal-TV-that-normal-people-watch marketing for Smash Wii U. One thing that annoyed me about NASB discussion, that I don't really think I properly comprehended until the series' death, is that a lot of people who discuss NASB aren't really NASB fans if that makes sense? I know that sounds a bit gatekeepy, but I'll explain: it feels like a lot of people were just in the overlap between Nickelodeon fans and Smash fans, and liked the idea of a combination of the two, but didn't actually appreciate the NASB games for their own distinct identity. The things I think of the NASB duology as being - experimental, fast, competitive, quirky - were all things people either didn't care about or thought were detrimental, and instead a lot of the emphasis was just "Why can't you be more like Smash?" - "if this was Smash, we'd have Arnold" "if this was Smash, we'd have the Timmy negotiations done" "if this was Smash, we wouldn't have Hugh" so on.
