World of Light is really weird from a tonal perspective. The CGI cutscenes are needlessly dark, falling into the same pitfalls as Subspace, but the actual mode itself is really lighthearted, silly, filled with tiny little references, and generally feels in line with what I'd personally want from a Smash story mode. It's a shame that WOL is - like many Nintendo creations - just summarised to "WOAH, EDGY KIDS' GAME!" based on the intro and bad endings alone, because honestly spirit battles and the WOL world map are one of the rare highlights for SSBU IMO

I've never really got why Smash fangames like Crusade and Flash 2 include veterans at all. Even with the big rosters these games can achieve with their unlimited dev time and asset access as freeware, I feel like playing into "WOAH NEW CHARACTERS" seems smarter.

I love how, when you get a draw in timed in Slap City, it doesn't try to calculate the winner through percentage nor do a sudden death minigame, it just says "Draw. **** you." Unironically genius game design.
I do genuinely love NASB2, and don't want to dunk on it or negatively compare it to NASB1 all the time, but it is still hilarious to me that the reveal trailer presented this as a "before and after" graphics improvement.

I find it so funny that the 4 characters destroying Ult's metagame are the clunky 80s beep-boop so-retro-men and two literal memes.
It might just be my general disdain for Rare-Nintendo fandom, but I never got why people wanted a Rare Replay Switch release to be a special "Nintendo Edition" - like, all that means is less games - did Rare even release more than 30 games on Nintendo hardware once you remove the LJN and Disney stuff?

If Smash was to drop any pretense of competitive balance, I honestly wouldn't mind a new game trying to beat Tobal 2's world record for roster size, at least in a vacuum (the effects on other fighting games and later Smash games would be terrible). They could absolutely do it with a NAS roster I feel, I'm pretty sure Nintendo has already experimented with elements of a single game being outsourced to multiple studios with the Wii Play series IIRC.

like actually. i've been trying to look this up but no answers. there's a lot of jag dev stuff out there, but basically nothing on atari karts.
NASB2 is really weird for me because I love this game but also vehemently disagree with pretty much every positive review of it.
EMMI is one of the only "recency bias picks" that actually sounds fun in Smash, I dunno why that's the one people get so aggressive against.
Been binge-watching John Oliver bits lately, and I cannot believe a conservative third-party-candidate made a Smash character reveal to announce they were going to tear down a eugenics rock for reasons that do not relate to the eugenics.
I watched a playthrough of all the Sunky games, and honestly I'm surprised by how well these hold up? They're not laugh out loud funny like they used to be now I have a post-pubescent brain, but they have really good animation and art, well-chosen soundtracks (accounting for both the joke songs and the non-joke songs), the occasional laugh ("Level Moist" was a slog as a kid but now I think it's the highlight of the series), don't have any of the problematic attack-helicopter humor of the time, and never feel truly obnoxious, even when they're actively trying to assault your eyes and ears. -
