    (jk love you guys)
8 minutes to boil, and 2 minutes to eat. Admit it kid - y'know noodles can't be beat.
I find capsule hotels to be a really interesting thing on a conceptual level that I don't really think could exist anywhere but in Japan. It's something that's occurred to me before that, especially in cities like New York, London, San-Fran, and my beloved MANCHESTER WOOO YEAH BABY THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT (im sorry), you'd think that the concept of "a particularly cheap hotel intended primarily for individual travellers as opposed to families and large groups which it achieves due to a small but still comfortable and functional form factor" would work really well in those sorts of places, but then whenever capsule hotels are introduced outside of Japan, they never really catch on

It's interesting because on the one hand I do understand why they don't catch on - people from the West, I suppose, don't like the idea of being in a relatively small space surrounded by others - but then something else occurred to me - the sheer number of hostels here in the UK, which in some ways, have similarities - except that capsule hotels are, firstly, not in the middle of bum**** nowhere, and secondly, actually tend to provide way more for the person staying there for significantly less!

A part of me wonders if something like that could ever catch on internationally. Like, when you think about it, it'd be really cool if it did - doing something like visiting different parts of larger cities would be significantly cheaper for the consumer, whilst the company itself is able to house more people in a smaller space and thus don't have to pay as much for the land - so, like, everybody wins, right? I guess that a part of it is some of the other business models you'd have present too - things like restaurants and such - but even then, I don't think that's particularly unreasonable given that a lot of hotels and B&B's have that sort of thing too.

Not sure why capsule hotels have been the weird fixation of the last like two hours but I suppose it could be worse

I think it might end up being a cultural barrier in some places. Japan is a society that is ok with sacrificing for convenience and a lot of their attitude towards consumption usually tends to be around disposable experiences. Things like Manga is bought on the cheap and discarded upon reading and overall you don't have a culture that is big on saving material goods thanks to things like the space issues Japanese cities have.

Places like America tend to be the opposite where haggling and getting a bargain deal is more appealing. Americans have never been ones for efficiency and value getting more for less where applicable. I'm not sure a tiny hotel for cheap would be as appealing as getting a relatively luxurious room for a bargain price, even if that price is more expensive than a capsule hotel would be.
im in this weird position where i feel like the shyguy would be really cool to see in smash and there's two very different ways i'd want to see them and i'm not sure which would be reasonable. firstly is a more traditional moveset which would be based on the mario/yoshi series more prominently and second is based more on mario kart (in reference to their role in mario kart ds) and i think thatd be really cool to see. lowkey a little surprised that smash doesn't have a "vehicle-based character" yet in terms of archetypes - like i get that wario has a side b but still
random question but like why doesnt the uk have 7/11s? is it because of the proliferation of convenience stores in the form of corner shops? is it because of express stores that fill the role? are 7/11 brit-phobic? idrk. just seems weird to me.

    (tired ramblings)
Really random thought that just occurred to me - the Wii represents such a weird era of technological history these days, doesn't it? I find it really interesting to look toward the early-to-mid-2000s and how consoles were intended to act as multi-media platforms (like the PSP and such), considering how relatively shortly the big smartphone revolution would be kicked off by Apple and a lot of the functions that used to be selling points quickly became obsolete.

Like, considering the Wii had things like the Weather Channel, the News Channel, the Photo Mode, and stuff like the Internet Channel, the Netflix disc, and other such things, when in such a short time after release, almost all of this was pretty much irrelevant considering you'd be able to fit it into phones - and with how ubiquitous they became as well.

I don't really have a point to this but it's so weirdly interesting to me looking at things like PDAs and the like, or weird and unusual peripherals for consoles such as the WorkBoy, knowing with hindsight that a lot of the technology inside them would render the hardware itself obsolete because of how multifaceted smartphones are. Like, I feel like we don't realise just how OP smartphones actually are and it's intriguing to me

screw it ive already posted one idea thingy but why not go for another one ive had for ages

Meet Lilly (short for Lilith.) A hooded Spectre from the great Otherworld, Lilly's taken a lot more of an interest in human affiairs than most spirits - so much so that she's decided to go on an adventure in the Human World. Though she might not understand some of the weirder parts of the human people, she's here to help - using her supernatural powers to do just that, whilst also fending off the negative parts of the human consciousness...

My concept for this game was primarily based on three things - ghosts, the psychological concept of "memes", and the theme of trying to help and be yourself even if it's at odds with who everyone says you are. Lilith, being a Spectre, has a lot of mysterious and magical abilities that she's able to use in various different ways - such as being completely invisible and intangible to the human world, passing through walls with ease.

However, her nature as a Spectre allows her to interact with brainwaves, giving her powerful psychic abilities - most prominently, powers such as suggestion, telekinesis, and even possession! However, she's in the human world to try and help people - whether it's suggesting to someone exactly what to say on a date, or fending off negative spirits like depression.

The game itself would have a wide variety of different potential gameplay loops, but the main one would be almost similar to a platformer or even a MetroidVania, as well as elements of visual novel design for certain interactions, and an RPG-esque levelling system. Her main method of using her powers, however, comes through her magical flag - which can harden into a scythe in order to combat enemies! She can also use it as a sort of staff, or to boost her psychic powers for various different effects.
I came across a cool tidbit today: apparently, if you have dual citizenship in Japan with any other country, say the US for example, you have to decide between "one or the other" due to Japanese law not permitting legal dual citizenship - so it's basically "renounce your Japanese citizenship or renounce your other citizenship, your call." However, this only takes place at the age of 20 - and they give you two years to think about it afterwards. I find it really weird but interesting - I guess it's one of those really obscure and almost completely pointless facts that you'll never ever need to remember unless in extremely fringe cases ahah
You ever have that thing where you keep coming up with ideas you think are cool, but you know that you don't have the skills, time, or tools to make it happen? Well, I felt like sharing this because why not!

    Random game concept idea:

The Electrifying Adventures Of Batteryboy is an idea I've had floating around for some time, and whilst I have quite a few concepts as to how it would work, here's my main one.

Batteryboy himself, real name "Watt", is a young and curious sentient battery in a world where essentially everything is sentient (and there's no humans.) In terms of mechanics, Watt is very much unlike many of the other batteries in that he's rechargable - meaning he can use his latent electrical powers as much as he likes, so long as he's able to recharge!

My idea for this is that the game would be a 3d platformer with a low-poly aesthetic, in which all of the levels are various locations in the real world that you'd be able to explore - except for the fact that you're really small, giving you a whole new perspective. Batteryboy has a number of different abilities related to electricity, such as zapping opponents, as well as plenty of tools he can use to traverse the world, such as copper wires and such. Of course, Batteryboy doesn't have arms - so getting around isn't as simple as just climbing, you'll need to get creative!

A big mechanic is that he's able to create electrical circuits to solve problems and have many different effects on the world, as well as powering things that take batteries such as R/C cars and the like - but there's a catch. Batteryboy, similar to Chibi-Robo, has a constant drain on electrical power based on what he's doing. Whatever it is you may need to do, you'll need to make sure you don't run out of battery! Of course, recharging is pretty quick, but it provides a degree of resource management to handle correctly. (You can see how much battery life Batteryboy has by looking at his back - similarly to modern Duracells, he has a little meter that indicates his amount of power at any given time.)

Not only this, but there's plenty of villains to fend off! A cool concept I actually had was that the "bosses" in the game are representative in some way of alternative power sources - such as tidal, geothermal, and wind power. For instance, fending off against a "giant" pigeon in the upper levels of a bedroom sounds like a lot of fun, as does something like exploring a boat - given electricity and water don't mix! In terms of characters, there's a lot of potential - I'm thinking he'd have friends such as a glass lightbulb named Lumen, and perhaps even a sidekick in the form of Volt Girl...

So, yeah! I'm probably never going to make anything with this and it's a bit of a random splurge of ideas, but I think it'd be really cool to see. Sorry for filling up your page!

hello i am king dedede from the n64 title kirby 64 the crystal shards please help im trapped inside this smashboards profile post i think spooky luigi put me here
Fun Gaming Fact: You know how people argue that "Ugh, all video games are so political nowadays.." Well...

One of the first video games stated to have a political message was Atari's Missile Command, released in 1980. Dave Theurer, the lead developer of the original game, stated that the main message was in relation to the (at the time) ongoing tensions of the Cold War, specifically in the form of its gameplay.

Missile Command's gameplay essentially has you control an anti-aircraft system intended to prevent missiles from an unnamed enemy hitting your six cities. However, the nature of the game (being an arcade title) is that the only lose condition is the situation where all of your cities are destroyed by the enemy missiles. There isn't a win condition - you keep playing until the lose condition is met.

Theurer has stated that this was a sort of exploration of the concept of mutually assured destruction - essentially, the only way to win is not to play - and with an inherent anti-war message due to this concept. There's a few ways the messaging gets to you (for instance, he originally planned to have the six cities in the game be various cities in California, but decided to have them be non-descript - giving the player a deeper personal connection to them.)

Missile Command is, I suppose, a political game... so, I guess video games have been "political" for quite some time, then?
"No longer confined by the nature of its existence as a two-dimensional being, as even a fictional construct, it had escaped from its prison of aged wood and scratched glass. Taking on the form of something so familiar and yet so inexplicably alien, so horrifyingly distant from anything we could even percieve as real, the sound of synthesized, almost ear-splitting steps - if you could call them that - enroached ever closer to my position with almost mechanical accuracy. With my back against the wall, I knew for certain that if it so much as touched me, my existence on this plane would be forever changed... and I would become like it."

I still think that an N64 Classic Edition similar to the NES and SNES releases would be incredibly cool even if it's probably never going to be made what with the whole Online stuff existing now. That's it. That's the profile post.

Okay, I feel like the main problem is how many notable games from the console are third-party releases that might take a bit of effort to include. The Rare titles spring to mind, as well as Bomberman 64 or Hero and something like Star Wars Episode I: Racer which would never happen but people would love to see. I do think Sin and Punishment would be a cool inclusion, though. An official English translation does exist from the Wii era what with the Virtual Console release so I guess that's plausible... except that it's also a Treasure title so there's that to deal with I guess.

This isn't even getting into stuff like the controller being more expensive due to increased complexity (and the four-player nature of the system probably meaning, in practice, that you'll have to buy more - and you'll probably only get one controller in the box) and stuff like having to have a slightly more powerful system to run the more intensive stuff. It'd be expensive, and if the previous systems are anything to go by, scalped to high heaven and barely purchasable anywhere.

I'd love to see it, but I don't think it's ever going to happen. I'm not mad. Just... disappointed.
    A thought experiment.

I am the only person on my street selling lemonade. Another person down the street begins to sell lemonade. I sue them, because only I can sell lemonade. I'm in the right. However, I begin to use less lemon and more water and people begin to dislike my lemonade because it tastes really watered down and kind of weird and I keep adding weird additions like glitter to the lemonade but I expect people to keep buying my lemonade because I'm the only one selling it. After all, I want to innovate!

Another person starts to sell my old recipe for lemonade. People like it, but it's a threat to my business model, so I sue them. They stop selling lemonade and I keep selling my watered-down, glitter-filled lemonade that people don't like. Only I am allowed to sell lemonade. They're in the wrong for stealing away my profits. If they don't like my lemonade, they shouldn't buy it.

I find out that someone is giving away lemonade for free inside their house. I sue them, because only I am allowed to sell lemonade. I refuse to give people my old recipe despite them asking, because I believe in innovation and moving forward as I continue to water down my lemonade more and more and add more and more glitter to it. How dare they have the cheek to steal my profit? How am I going to pay the rent?

People on the street like lemonade but they don't like my lemonade? That's their problem. They shouldn't have any lemonade if they're not willing to buy it from me. Only I'm allowed to sell lemonade. They're in the wrong if they like my old recipe, because it's outdated and I believe in innovation. If they don't like my watered-down, glitter-filled lemonade, they're not my target audience. If they sell lemonade, I'm going to sue them, because they're stealing business from me. They're in the wrong. If they want a different drink, like maybe orange juice, they can go elsewhere, because I sell only lemonade, and I am the only one allowed to sell lemonade, and if ANYONE ELSE TRIES TO SELL LEMONADE, I'M GOING TO SUE THEM.

On a completely unrelated note, Nintendo is such a cool company :yeahboi:
I think that if there was ever to be a Disney platfighter of some form and it were to introduce buddies similarly to what we've seen in All-Star Strife, I'd love to see V.I.N.CENT from the 1979 movie The Black Hole as one. He's a little floating robot. With cute lil square eyes.

Look at him and rejoice in his roundness. I mean he's technically alive by the end of The Black Hole so it's not like he wouldn't work. And hey, who wouldn't want to represent an objectively weird and somewhat obscure live-action Disney sci-fi movie in a fairly minute role in their big crossover title that the fans will love?

my tron obsession is showing isnt it
I remember seeing this thing on the news where some thief broke into a bank and snuck inside the vault, but then got locked in the vault and set off an alarm that got them stuck there for like two days to the point where police had to drill a hole in the back wall to get them out - and bear in mind this was years ago and for some reason I remembered it like just now for some reason and I have no idea

    how's your evening?
Here's a random question I'd like to ask, given this is a Smash site and it's been a hot minute since I've posted anything Smash-related: if the Masterpieces mode were to return for Ultimate, what games would you want to see included?

Two stipulations: there still has to be a time limit, and you can only include NES or SNES games in keeping with Nintendo's very convenient NSO service that just so happens to also be in place and totally isn't just there for cross-promotion. However, any NES/SNES titles are on the table - and would just so happen to also be added to NSO.

    Left-to-right, top-to-bottom on the page:

    1. Amongoclus: The most common type. Act as scouts for their pack. They typical wander away from the rest in order to spot danger and/or prey. So if you see one, there could still be time to escape before the rest of the pack finds you.
    2. Anosus: A much rarer type. They are often found next to other pack members on hunts or to verify that food is safe to eat during consumption. Not every pack has them, but enough do for it to be a concern. They are most sensitive to the smell of human sweat.
    3. Audongus: This type usually acts as guards for a nest, so most humans never see one. Due to their lack of sight, sneaking through a nest without making sound is a viable, yet incredibly risky option if in a desperate situation provided that all amongoclus and anosus aren't present in the nest. They are also often seen scouting with amongoclus.
    4. Armongus: When not hunting, these act as manual laborers to build the nest. They are capable of building primitive walls, digging holes into hills to act as buildings, and clearing debris. Some more advanced occurrences have been seen building primitive traps, such as spiked pits, and primitive buildings. They also play a pivotal role in hunts. They either sneak up on or chase prey and restrain it with their hand, slowing it down enough for an Amawus to catch up.
    5. Amawus: Often seen as leaders of their pack. They are very slow and have to have armongus catch prey for them to eat. They are also responsible for chewing food into a state that other pack members can consume. While other types seem to be carnivores, amawus can be found eating a variety of things ranging from actual food to garbage. While they are present in most packs, a single pack usually doesn't have much and they are often the type with the lowest amount of members in a pack. Even large packs never have more than around 8-12.
Here's a random point: you can actually trap a driverless car in a circle of salt, and yes, it'd actually work in spite of the satanic associations that Tesla and other car companies probably want to deny. It's primarily due to computer logic.

If you were to surround a driverless car on all sides with "road markings" that indicate that the car isn't allowed to pass, the AI itself will recognise that this is the case and won't pass it. It's a basic need of a driverless car to do just this - but if it's surrounded on all sides, it's generally the case that the car will be unable to move because from the perspective of the AI, it's not allowed to. Now, the thing is, an AI can't distinguish exceedingly well between "Oh, this is road paint" and "Oh, this is a large quantity of salt" - and salt, also being white (if placed in the same patterning as the road markings) would ping the AI to think "Oh, I can't cross here, it's a road marking." So yeah, driverless cars are possessed by demons able to be stopped by a circle of salt.
Looking into random Sunsoft things and then suddenly

Finally, the most huggable being known to mankind.
I adore them unconditionally. This being has literally made my life whole.
Does anyone else sometimes just boot up their Internet connection and trawl through daisychains of progressively more and more obscure Neocities sites purely out of a combination of curiosity and intrigue? It's something I've started doing more recently - that is, taking more of an interest in the old and obscure web. It all just seems so cool...

I came across this whilst looking up some random stuff to do with Midway and I have to say, this is an utterly fascinating concept. It's inspired by the classic arcade title Robotron 2084, but with a twist - all of the enemies are in the form of Conway's Game of Life, a "game" with zero players that's notable in several circles due to its interesting results with pre-determined mathematical rules. I can't imagine it'd be particularly thrilling to play for particularly long periods of time - but it does look incredibly interesting and I think it's a very cool concept.

Here's a link to the Reddit thread where I found this - I feel it's only right that I give credit where it's due. There's a download link on the original post but I'd recommend not downloading it because I've not checked it personally (no ill will intended, more so just to keep y'all safe.) Nonetheless I think this is a really cool concept that I kind of wish I'd been the one to come up with!
Random free game idea that I just had whilst trawling through the depths of the InterWebs, a game with a similar style to the attached video (vector graphics and all) but where the game's visuals are an extension of the music which you'd control somehow. I'm not sure exactly what sort of game it would be (probably a combination of an arcade-esque title with elements of rhythm games?) I guess the first thing people would compare it to would be Vib-Ribbon but I think it'd be cool to see. Hell, maybe even have the program act as a spectrometer too so that you can use it as a tool as well as a game!

You know I was actually just trying to work out what sorts of characters could make it into a sequel to Dreammix (like I mentioned earlier) and something quite funny occurred to me - in terms of "Series Icons", there's actually a surprising amount of M's in place. No, really!

Shown here are the most fitting icons for Action Man, Monopoly, and Magic the Gathering. Oh, and all of these are apparently Hasbro? I think the one that surprised me most was Magic, though admittedly I've never known much about it aside from that it was a card game. (According to Wikipedia, they apparently also own Dungeons and Dragons, so I guess Hasbro really are the holders of the Neckbeard Triforce: Magic, D&D and MLP)
    KneeOfJustice99
    KneeOfJustice99
And here's my Konami interpretation. I decided to combine Konami and Hudson, controversial as it may be - truthfully I felt two characters from Hudson's library were must-haves, so that's why Bonk got in alongside Bomberman. However, I decided to maintain a few of the original picks - Yugo felt like he'd have a very cool archetype to introduce so I felt he'd be reasonable, and I ended up keeping all of the Konami picks seems as they made a lot of sense to me (despite the difficulties with Snake these days, and a redesign of Simon - though I'd keep his red look as an alt.)

Aside from these, I wanted to pick a wide variety of characters whilst also being able to bring fun archetypes - Pyramid Head felt like an almost obvious pick with this in mind. I felt that Goemon - a semi-popular Smash request and a character firmly rooted in Japan - would also be great to see, and alongside him I decided on Disco Afro from the Dance Dance Revolution series as a rhythm rep (I was split between DDR and Beatmania, but the former had a lot more worldwide recognition.) Yugi might be the most potentially controversial pick, but I think he'd be fitting considering the new addition of Jace and the original having Tyson Granger from Beyblade. Once again, 14 fighters here - I felt keeping it balanced would be beneficial.

(This is probably spamming at this point so feel free to let me know if I'm out of order here but I'm like weirdly hyperfixated on this and a bit tired too so like. focus focus focus hehe)
