On paper, I like alternate costumes that are just small changes like Cloud's armband in Smash or Korra's season 2 outfit in Nick, but when there's a strictly set number of alt costumes for every character (Ultimate's 8 or - worse - NASB's 2) it's quite infuriating.

It might just be because I threw a barely disguised fit about us just disconfirming Rambi, but I haven't seen as many major disconfirms in the current Mario Smash Ally Contact job as usual - probably the biggest potential disconfirm on the table is either Boom Boom or Tatanga (maybe Lego Mario but TBH since Lego Mario is kind of an auto-disconfirm for real Smash it's hard to calculate how much demand there is for him in this context without submitting him for a fighter job), neither of which are exactly as discussed in the context of Smash as Stanley, Poochy, or Vivian.

I think people, in discussion of British/European games, do tend to overlook Donkey Kong Country. That feels, to me at least, like the game my country should be proud of and an icon of our gaming achivements, but when I talk to British people IRL who grew up on DKC or are into gaming but not fully into Nintendo they're often surprised to find out DKC was a British creation. DKC has basically all the good of Amiga europlatformers (atmospheric music, surreal but beautiful atmosphere, every action having an "oomph"), without the janky cameras and BS hit detection.

The lead technical character artist for Luigi's Mansion 3 also working on Hotel Mario as art director is a funny fact, sure, but it also kinda makes sense comparing the two games. Luigi's Mansion 3 is one of the most expressive games in Nintendo history, the closest Nintendo has got to an "interactive cartoon" IMO, and for as off-model and uncanny as the CD-i Nintendo games' cutscenes were, you can't say they didn't have expressive animation.

Honestly, the Chip N' Dale movie would've worked way better as an Eek! the Cat movie

Eek! was already themed around a cute, optimistic cartoon character contrasted by a cynical, violent world
Eek! was already filled with meta-jokes and pop culture parodies, and comes from the era of Animaniacs and Bonkers with the cartoons-as-actors trope.
Eek! has actually been forgotten and fell out of public conciousness, and depicting him as washed up and behind the times would just be stating facts, not an insult to devoted fans.

It's kinda funny to look back at NASB speculation content from before the gameplay reveal because a ton of people were accidentally making Smash movesets with burial, sleeping, Final Smashes, side specials, back airs, e.t.c. for Nickelodeon characters.

I kinda want to make the Akuma pose into a recurring gag for the Mario Smash thread, where every Yoshi newcomer has some kind of Street Fighter or otherwise out-of-character traditional fighter reference somewhere in their victory animations, but that's really up to submitters and voters.

I think a really cool move for Rocko in NASB would be his brain-pop scream as a counter - which would be super disjointed, have an activation hurtbox in front of instead of on Rocko (leaving him vulnerable if a foe gets up too close or is behind him), and would only react to strong moves.

I just read a TheGamer article about why NASB and MultiVersus are worse than Smash - it begins by explaining that Smash only works because it has good gameplay, but then follows it up with a rant about NASB's classic mode that doesn't even allude to, let alone dwell on, NASB's gameplay design.

My favourite animation studio is Aardman, but to be completely honest an Aardman platform fighter wouldn't really work IMO, their films are known for being quaint, they tend to have really small casts, and their action setpieces usually rely more on the environment than characters' physical skills with villains usually playing themselves instead of being outdone by the protags - that being said, I am all for an Aardman guest character in Multiversus, NASB, or a DreamWorks platform fighter.

Really pleased with the home stage concepts for Pink Elephant, Goofy, and EVE
Alt costumes in general were pretty tricky given most of these characters only have one movie and some of them don't even appear much within that movie. Either way original concepts (Jackalope, Debris Dragon, and technically Powerline) were a last resort
I considered an original alt for Debris Dragon where it becomes an actual dragon complete with the illustration's sweater, but I felt that would take away its charm
Favourite alts are Kevin, Kermit, Mufasa, Elsa, and Indiana Jones.
Kermit's alt is probably the objective worst pick, but I really like that skit so I went with it for bias' sake
I specifically chose Donald's because I really like the idea of having a blindfolded alt.

Continuing from my whole thing about graphics vs. art, I think Sword and Shield has one of the best art directions of any first party Switch release, probably the best of any 3D non-port that isn't Yoshi's Crafted World - sure, it has a mild case of the desats, but it keeps to the aesthetic and knows when too much realism is too much.

My belief that NASB is better than Ultimate is a very hot take on its own, but if you want a scorching take, I also think NASB looks better than Ultimate. Compare any two Ultimate and Nick stages with a similar location/theme and Ludosity's work will almost always look more pleasing.

Even though I'm way more of a 90s Nick fan than a 00s/10s Nick fan, I feel that the 90s well is pretty dry for NASB. Other than niche off-the-radar stuff like idents; puppets; Nick Jr/at Nite; and game shows, all that really seems necessary is a Rocko rep or two and maybe a second Rugrats or Hey Arnold rep.
