cping you to Mute at a MDZ tourney
lol wobbles i never said u must play flashy to be good. apparently u dont get my point either. but what i said is that u can be better than somebody and still lose due to the playstyle. lets assume that ssbm has only 2 characters; fox and ganondorf. and that theres only one stage which is smaller than yoshis story and has walls on every edge. the fox basically has only one technique to master to be better than ganon, waveshining. the matchup against ganon would be 100 - 0 for fox and regardless how top leveled the ganon is there is no chance of winning because the fox can RELY ON GAY **** THAT WORKS IN EVERY SITUATION. and the same is with hungrybox. he is not smarter than armada, m2k, peepee, amsah or a lot more. seriously. and what is more hungrybox often needs those random rests to win. yes, he can win against them. he CAN. but this does not make him better.
What's the point of being better if you aren't able to win? Are you really better then?

In a match, there's only one thing that counts, and that's whose face shows up after it says "this game's winner is", do whatever it takes for it to be yours
Only way you're going on in bracket is by doing that

Mango has more fun losing tournaments and then MMing the player who won afterwards and beating them almost every single match I bet xP.

And then as the MM/MMs end you know he's just got that Mango smirk he gets on his face haha =p.

I think we should separate Mango going Falcon/Mario/other into Scorpion Master and have Mango's ranking only count if he uses Puff/Falco/Fox.

I think that's the best way to do it.

I'm merging this with the other thread. this doesn't need it's seperate thread.
This topic is full of PoundSlap being dumb, coaching, etc and very little to do with the actual topic, so I made a better one, also to address about Hungrybox. But merged in here, it'll just get left behind with all the litter in here and we'll end up having the same discussion again in a couple of days.

But if you prefer having more crap to mod and watch over, rather than concluding a discussion in a much more professional way than in here, that's your business.

On the other hand, that makes seeding very difficult. Unless we can force him to either stick Puff/Falco/Fox or Marth/Falcon/Mario (which we can't), we'll end up ****ing the brackets over.

if mango doesn't sandbag can anyone legitly beat his puff?

also for the bair tactics that's the dumbest s*** i've ever read (from poundslap) if it's unbeatable why is he punished when he misses? laser/projectiles=punishment. Seriously I've never seen a good arguement about puff being broken other than maybe when stages had mute city and m2k's rants.

People fail to even understand what they are even saying. Puff isn't broken because of rest and bair but more like inbalnced in level of punishment puff hits hard but isn't really hit hard back like other heavy punishment charcters like fox/falco/marth/sheik/falcon/ice climbers(think nana=no more solid punishment) and unlike peach puff's speed is as straight away easy to abuse and being low low speed really changes it to something esle because if they can't take that risk(get close enough) then they'll lose.

Icy its LITERALLY the same topic and the same problems can potentially arise in a new topic anyway. Especially with a title as inviting as "Hungrybox is the best player in the world." I don't see how a new topic makes it invincible to the same problems that this thread has.

So rather than having potentially two threads to watch over, It makes sense to keep everything in one.

If you have a problem with a user derailing a thread/flaming/spamming, report them.

the most accurate thing to say is "Hungrybox is currently the most winningest player in melee"

Pretty sure no one legitimately thinks mango isnt actually the best

Mango is the best

I'm retired since before Rom3 I only play for my fans now honestly. Very high chance I'm not entering singles at pound5 because when I do that with both games at same time it affects my performance and difference with 1st 2nd 3rd is very big it becomes not worth it when I could just concentrate on Brawl and high chance of first (MLG). Idk
how bout not entering brawl (at least one time)...just to see how you'd do in melee.

That's a pretty big risk. He's got a bigger chance winning brawl, and winning more money, and he knows it. He's in it for the money. This is fact.

These days it's all about the money. No one plays the game to fight the best anymore like back in them old days, I tell ya.

Someone who I expect to be really good, or at least he has no excuse not to be a top pro in the future is TAI. He's young so he has time, he loves the game as much as any top player needs to, and he practices with Axe consistently and has access to Forward and Taj.

If you have a love for Smash as strong as he does, and at the same time you have the ridiculous resources that he has...In my eyes, he has a duty/responsibility to become a top pro and keep the metagame/melee going.

lol Somebody rich should make like little awesome badges so when someone achieves something, Or trophies for winning major tournies like "Pound" A giant glass fist on a stand.

"Oh man where did you get that pin shaped like a thunder bolt"
"Oh I took a set off Axe, anyone who does that gets this"

or

"oh man how did you get that Pin that's shaped like a big grin"
"I played a set with hungry box and didn't get rested once."

Then again I just got done playing SC2 and got an achievement so I probably just have achievements on the mind.

I've never really thought about money that much since I've played Smash, but now that I think about it...

I guess the way I see it is, you work your *** off to be the best. You sacrifice and go through a lot, you see improvement blah blah blah it's a journey really...When a player is at the point where they win money, it's like a sign that they've reached a certain point as a player. I don't think they should brag about it, I don't think they should even think about it or make a big deal about it at all. The money is just an afterthought. If you won 1st place at Pound and didn't get any money, you should feel just the same as if you got 2 grand for it.

If anything, money should be an inner personal satisfaction where you can think to yourself..."Wow, I just won 200 from a biweekly...This feels ****ing awesome and I'm not only glad to have won it, but PRIVILEGED as well."

Ok, that's a better way to put it. At least to me, personally, winning money is a privilege I have of being a good player (in my region I'm talking about). Other priveleges include people respecting you and looking up to you, people wanting to play you at nationals and people just interested in you in general.

That's how I think of money, exactly the same as the above things. It's something I'm grateful for just as the ability to have people care about what you think about the game and come to you for advice...But even if I didn't win anything from tournaments, just like even if no one cared at all about anything I had to say, I'd still play just as hard and have just as much drive.

I hope that makes sense?

Zone- LMAO @ the Hbox badge hahahahahahaha thats awesome

Actually Zone now that I think about it, if the best players could talk to the TO's beforehand that would actually be a really really good idea. Not the exact ones you came up with but the concept of getting badges or stickers or whatever from doing stuff vs pros in either tournament or mm's or whatever...thats a sick idea and no other community does that i think

the mango thing- i dont know if he is going to keep using his worse character until he can beat us or if he doesnt care..i think he cares ,so i think he just has major confidence he can win with those other characters
and keeps trying with those characters until he figures new was how to fight..in a way i hate when mango doesnt play his best three characters but then i like watching his other characters too play so "out of the box"

keep it up mango..i approve

I worder how bad of charcters mango will start winning with. also if he goes bowser bowser IS a good charcter without a doubt in my mind on YS I swear I just ***** my brother using only fair, edge attack, up-B, and F-smash predictions for whatever he did on the edge he'd run into it with bowser mindgames.

Also just because mario is better than some of the charcters he's a above I believe some may have a greater chance in the long run like pikachu.

wait I mean bowser is a decent charcter I only count puff, sheik, falco, and fox as the good charcters everyone esle sucks or is decent, cut off at decent is like doctor mario

Top 8 at some regional/circuit/national get a badge. A badge allows free entry/venue/housing for one person.

If you play someone in bracket of any tournament(local) you can request to make the match an official badge match. But if you do you have to put up 5 dollars. If you win the match vs that player with a badge, you receive the badge as well as keep your 5 bucks. If you lose, the player keeps the badge and his 5 bucks.

The badge is cool because it has the benefit of getting a player free entry/housing/venue etc for a major tournament. It's also cool because it allows pros to make more money when they enter tournaments, while also forces others to want to enter touneys in order to get a chance at winning the badge. And it gives people some **** to talk about. I could see it working for an event that has a circuit/multiple tournaments in one series. Though of course the TO would have to cover the venue/entry fee of the badged individual so that the pot won't lose out. But to's help big named players with monetary issues anyways for nationals and this would just be a sicker way of doing it.

...making interesting maneuvers in the Okanagan...
LOL
Pins for things is funny. Would be sweet.

If I played for money, I wouldn't go to anything...
Partially because I suck...

...but even if I placed 1st in literally ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING at any of the tournaments I go to excluding the really massive ones that I drive 50+ hours/drive 10+ hours and fly the rest to get to (well even those probably lol), it'll ALWAYS cost me more money getting there than the winnings would ever pay.

Nowhere land is legitly sucky, but I refuse to stop playing no matter how much time and money it takes to get somewhere to play...

This game is too much goodness...

Either way i have even more respect for you now. :)

@ icy: ok your point stands, there's just one flaw.

You said Juan's the best for tourney results and blahblahblah ok it's fine and I actually can agree (italian pride), but then u say "calle W maybe top 5 at international"...........

on what basis may I ask?
if it's just because he sometimes gets to GF in Sweden against Armada to be ***** then LOL

I'd bet he would actually choke even for 7th place in Europe. But we'll never know 'cause he never shows at European tournaments.

PS: this sounds way more angry then it is, I explained multiple times my point on CalleW, I just want people to have RATIONALITY. You can't place him so high if he never shows. It's just stupid and disrespectul to other european players that actually show and place very well.

Badges = awesome. In Sweden, we practiced said system at a series of tournaments where top 8 (3 in our case I think) in both singles and teams got a free entry at the next tournament. No badges though =/
Also: Let the Calle W-issue be settled at BEAST. There will be no need for speculations.
