dude... Character selection is a skill you have, even if it sounds weird. I mean why picking up Falcon when you just can pickup jigglypuff and fox who are better on a tourney setting, that's being smart, being smart is part of a player skill.

I mean it would be wiser in many ways to pick the charcter that is better I'll argee but people are more comfortable with one way to play. I play a lot of falco any more and have 0-deathed my brother a brother a few times and it was super legit. However even when I stop playing as pichu i'm still more comfortable with hiim after a week of not playing as him and once I get the rust off it's clear I'm smarter and better as pichu. How pichu is how I prefer to play and sometimes my falco will play like that and laser very little and relie a lot more on movement.

I used to play more ice climbers than pichu because they were better but I ended up being better as pichu because how I played the ice climbers was fail but when I tryed to be comfortable with them it wasn't as great as when I did so as pichu.

I have a way to play or style I go with the best way I feel to max it out.

I did I mained them and played them for the longest time I learned de-syncing and quad blocks and chain throws on most of the cast and have discovered a handful of unknown things and Have a good idea how they work the problem is how they play or how they are I guess.

I get pressure or gayed so hard as them I can't keep a level head and I mindlessly spam d-smash even more than normal. I used to play as noone but them even when I didn't have pressure problems at the low level of play I played.

Pichu is faster/harder to hit plus he has an approach i'm VERY comfortable with I have less problems with his limits than those of the ice climber or falcon or however esle. Plus it' smuch easier to pin point your problems if you're getting beaten out by spamming nair you need to change movement, attack less, and mix-up a little more and you'll be good. as a slowish charcter like ice climbers when you're backed into a corner or pressured (because you have to be so close to keep your own pressure going) it's hard.

I'm simply not smart enough or level headed enough to main them and do as amazing as I want. I'm the person who's say in a bus and got my a** whipped and I didn't fight back when he was smaller and talked so much s*** and bragged. I simply didn't care to. but ice climbers need love super hard to main no one loves you and they'll rage quit the minute you're happy or warmed up.

Hungrybox is the best player in the world

Because the best players thread is full of stupid except for when Wobbles posts, I'm saying here that Hungrybox is the best player in the world. He's won most and placed in the Top 3 at almost every national, regional, international, everything for a year and a half now (Genesis, Rom2, Pound 4, Herb3, Apex, To6, and a ton of other tournies), with his only blip being Rom3, where he still placed an impressive 5th place. Currently, no other player's tournament performance matches his.

1. Mango - He won't be number 1 if he loses the next national, johns or not.
2. Hbox - Speaks for itself, an amazing player
3-4 NTSC - Amsah 3, Pal - Armada 3 - Just depends on the version being played imo.
5. M2K - Still super good. Might change soon because people are getting better, but he plays Fox/Marth/Sheik very well so it gives him an advantage over lots of players.
6. Axe - Played him yesterday and I have never seen anything like it. In my prime, DSW was the tech falco. In this day it is Axe. I think he is going to create new standards for the Falco metagame. Axe's tech skill is, IMO, on par with silent wolf and Lovage. Axe is gaining a lot of experience now, so his mind is able to keep up with his hands, or in other words, he backs up his tech skill with smart play. It is... just astounding.
7. Jman - He can beat Armada, but not M2K or Axe, so I can't him place him higher than those two for that reason.
8. PP - Anyone else below him I'm sure he can beat.

After that I'm not sure. A lot of great players are deserving of spots after this but there is a lot of inconsistency among all of them to decidedly give that spot to one person. But among the best players after these I would argue for Tope, Wobbles, ColBol, SS, Shroomed, Lovage, Zhu, Lucky, Hugs, Hax, Darkrain, Eggm, and probably a few more great regional players that I am unaware of.

(Small note on that quote, Forward mistakenly believed Jman beat Armada at Tunes).

Mango is more or less "retired", unless you want to seriously rank him on his tourney results, where he'd be around Tope's performance or so.

So the best players are currently as follows:

Hungrybox
Armada
Your choice of Amsah/Dr.PP/Mew2King

And then a ton of people right below including Axe, Wobbles, Shiz, Zhu, Jman, Eggm, Darc, SS, Zgetto, Remen, Overtriforce, Hax, Vanz, Tope, Darkrain, Lucky, Hugs.......and plenty of others.

And of course, there's always speculation which keeps interest up, including Calle W, Lucien, Ice, Javi, Shroomed, Dark, ZhuV, and many others, although realistically, I don't see any of them placing at around top 5 at an international (except maybe Calle W), but they would certainly put up a fight and place fairly high.

I agree with this post 100%. HBox is def the best player based on tournament placings, there is no argument there., but we all know that Mango really is the strongest player in the world and currently is just trolling everyone (because realistically, he can). Throwing his set to KK at ROM3 just to beat Kage as Link?

In Mango's current state of trying, a lot of people actually are a threat. KirbyKaze beat him, Wobbles beat him, Eggz beat him, Zhu beat him, etc.

I imagine a lot of Sheiks are a problem too since he doesn't use Falco or Fox.

And though he does in teams, if you count team performance as a factor is judging who the best players are, then Aniolas would also be a top-level player, but since he doesn't even make it into the Brackets in Singles, you can't count that. Sure, Armada being his partner helps, but in Teams there are TWO opponents, and as good as Armada is, he can't beat two on his own. Except Falcomist and Phil.

One of the things that stands out here was the idea that

"Player x beats player y. Player o beats player X. Player O must therefore be able to beat Player Y. And that's not necessarily true. People are good at certain match ups and bad at certain match ups. You can't say that just because this person beat this person that they're better than someone else."


that's the only logical flaw I see in this.
However, I do think that HBox is in top 3, but not the best. He's the best from a community point of view, where as Mango is [imo] better from the simple skill perspective.
However, Mango is like Isai, where he just sandbags like a mofo.

Other than that, good interesting post. I may not necessarily agree with everything that's said but I definitely think that this was thought out and useful.

The only place I use Inui logic is Hungrybox > Armada because those two beat everyone else (barring a few blips on occasion), and since Hungrybox beats Armada, it only make sense to have him over.

Well I gotta say I wasn't feeling really confident to begin with since he had beat me 3 times in a row in MMs, Bo5.. so all I could do was to play as cheap as I could and CG.
