Hey Folks... sorry for the long delay in announcements.
After reviewing the summer schedule and the financial burden of putting on an event like this, we've decided that it would be best for the Airship team to postpone this event into the winter. This will make the summer schedule less crowded and allow our team to focus our energies promoting some other grassroots events.
Let me be clear, Airship is NOT canceled. We are just postponing it. We are investigating winter dates now with our venue and will be posting new dates as soon as we have something. Sorry for the inconvenience, but don't worry. We still intend to bring some great things to the Smash Community in 2010 and beyond.
The Airship is a national championship event taking place this July in Raleigh, North Carolina! Planned by community veterans M3D, Scav, & Youko to be a professional-quality event and partnered with The Escapist Magazine, Monster Energy Drink and other sponsors, The Airship is set to be the biggest and best event of the summer. Details below!

Venue
The Raleigh Convention Center
We’ve rented over 10,000 square feet of venue space for the event in this brand new facility located in the beautiful city of Raleigh. You can find more information about the venue here: http://www.raleighconvention.com/
Travel
By Air
The primary airport for the Raleigh area is RDU International (http://www.rdu.com/), with service from all major airlines. As a minor hub for East Coast-based flights, Raleigh is inexpensive to travel through by plane with competitive rates year-round. Bus service from the Airport to downtown Raleigh is just $2 (http://www.rdu.com/groundtrans/bustrain.htm), eliminating the need for expensive rides or excessive carpooling around the event date.
By Car
Raleigh sits on I-40, a major highway that connects the Outer Banks of North Carolina with the heart of the country to the West. Attendees coming from the North or South can use I-95 or I-85 to connect to I-40. The convention center is easily accessible by a single exit off I-40 and parking is free in the public lot adjacent to the venue, making travel by car easy and inexpensive.
By Train
The Raleigh train station is within walking distance of the convention center, just a few blocks away on West Cabarrus street, making travel by train a cheap option for players on the East Coast. Travel from Washington DC is only $75 and takes just six hours to arrive at the Raleigh station.
By Bus
The local bus station is also just a few blocks away from the convention center, with regular Greyhound service every day of the week. The R-Line (http://www.godowntownraleigh.com/get-around/r-line) is a completely free, eco-friendly bus service that circulates Raleigh on 10-15 minute intervals at each stop. This gives players freedom to choose the best price for a hotel and gives them access to a wide variety of food an entertainment within Raleigh for absolutely no cost.
Hotels
The Raleigh Marriott City Center is attached to the Convention Center by underground tunnel, giving players quick access to the venue should they choose to stay in downtown Raleigh. Due to proximity and Raleigh’s free bus service, there are also four other downtown hotels with easy access for players that do not travel by car to the event. Raleigh is also flanked by three major suburban areas within a short driving distance to the venue (Cary, Garner, Morrisville) that have discount hotels with incredibly affordable prices. Groups willing to go four-to-a-room are likely to find hotel accommodations for less than $10 a night per person.
I am currently working on a hotel discount. More details coming soon!
Food
Concessions will be available in the convention center with reasonable prices and easy access for attendees. Within a short walking distance of the venue, players also have access to Jimmy Johns, Starbucks, McDonald’s, a local deli, a local pub, sushi and Thai food and a restaurant inside of the Marriott Hotel. Raleigh’s free bus service also provides access to a wide variety of food options, particularly in the nearby Moore Square, a 5-minute bus ride from the venue.
Entertainment
Families attending the event may be happy to discover that Raleigh has a Kids Museum and a Museum of Natural Sciences that can be reached by bus service within a few minutes of the venue. There is also an IMAX theatre, for viewing big summer blockbusters on the big screen. Adult attendees can find a variety of bars, pubs and nightclubs in downtown Raleigh due to the presence of NC State University and the high concentration of young adults that live in Raleigh for jobs in its growing technology and financial industries. More information about Raleigh entertainment can be found here: http://www.godowntownraleigh.com/at-ease

Equipment
The Airship is currently planning to rent 32 televisions for the main tournament room, covering the necessary stations to execute the Smash Bros events over the course of four days. We are happy to have you bring more TVs to help the tournament move along smoothly. We do need players to bring their Wiis and GameCubes, along with copies of the games and complete save files to make this tournament a success!
Equipment Incentive
The first 32 people to bring a Nintendo Wii and a copy of Super Smash Bros Brawl for the event to use will get Super Smash Bros 64 put on their Wii via Virtual Console purchase. That’s a ~1000-point/$10 value. Players that already have Smash Bros 64 on their Wii will get a 1000 point card for the Wii once they pick up their system on Sunday after the competitions are over.
Freeplay Room
We’ve rented a special room that will be run with power and set with tables and chairs specifically for free play. Players are free to bring their own set-ups for this room and play other games, host mini-tournaments (with staff approval) and have a good time. Be warned that this room MAY be used for side tournaments at the discretion of staff, so not every station may be available for free play all the time in this room.

Airship 2010 Goals
Professional Tournament Organization and Execution
This event is being planned and run by professionals, working from a realistic schedule that is executed properly. We will not allow major delays in the event schedule. We will not let the event get held up by top players who don’t think they have to show up on time. No special treatment for the few that hurts everyone else. We will keep our promises and stick to our rules.
A High-Quality, Professionally Produced Stream
With our partnership with The Escapist and Show Me Your News, players at the event can expect top-notch reporting on their efforts. Fans at home can expect an excellent, completely free online experience of the event. We won’t force you to watch a bunch of random friendlies or hours of downtime. When the event is going, the stream will be live and packed with good content.
Community Growth
Our media plan, professional execution and growing partnerships will help bring new audiences to the world of competitive Smash Bros and attract new players to events all over the world.
Community Involvement
We can’t be successful without YOU! We need you to come to the event, provide equipment, tell your friends, volunteer to help, watch the stream live and participating in our giveaways and contests. Without the Smash community, this event is nothing. Please help us make it the biggest and best Smash event ever.
Fun for Everyone
Even if you aren’t a top player, you can have a blast and get a great experience at The Airship. We’ll have sponsor booths, raffles, special events, side tournaments, free play and more. And if you can’t be there in person, the live stream will not only be great entertainment, but might also include some giveaways that you can participate in.
