Custom stages tend to be too much work for lazy Brawl players to deal with. Half the people I run into at 30+ person tournaments don't even know the basic rules.

man no one answered last time I posted (or when I asked about it months ago lol)

Why is Mario Bros. banned?
In my opinion it shouldn't be, but one argument against it would be that the stage warps and devolves gameplay into something much more shallow and prominent than most other stages you could consider for viability.

The original Mario Bros argument (before The Thread) was that it had a circle and walkoffs.

After The Thread detailed how it was possible to abuse the hazards to stop camping, it was determined that Falco and possibly Pit are nearly untouchable if they spam reflectors near a walkoff. (I'm really not so sure.)

I personally think Mario Bros would make a great side event, but it's incredibly different from the rest of the stages. That may or may not justify a ban, YMMV.

K, last night I was on a weir angry-hating mood, and then I saw new tier list.
Yet, I hold my point of view:
Snake adjusts to stages better than Diddy does imo.
Grenades can go virtually everywhere, that's good for him, makes him not bad in any stage, but I think he is good in only some few. Also, he does not get easily gimped (except by MK).
Diddy on the other hand hates any kind of change or non-flat stuff. They even dislike many matchups on Yoshi's Island Brawl.
Still, Diddy plays his first match on his 3rd-4th best stage. How's that fair for everyone else?
Stop saying "grounded" characters >=( The distinction should be how STATIC or DYNAMIC a stage is. Not how "aerial" or "grounded" a stage is -_-
Wrong terminology, my bad.
Should I say characters with long-ranged, fast projectyles instead?
Even better, Falco and Diddy?

Well, I guess, but as Falco and Snake himself get decent game 1 stages as well, the stages didn't really impact that specific switch. Unless you mean that someone like Wario would have gone there with starters that are on the other side of the spectrum.
Wario obviously likes to play in the air. He depends on his air game more than most other characters. He (along with other characters) is heavily limited because someone decieded to play on flat stages most of the time.
Wario is just an example though. Several rises and drops are direct relatives of stagelists and certain rules.

Those characters benefitting is a product of the philosophies a lot of people have when making a ruleset which may or may not include any of the points you made.
I could list even more, it's not the point.
Why most people consider advantages on this kind of characters are fair?

Every stage should be legal bros >_>
^That

inb4 I just made my previous statements in this post invalid

It's not about long-ranged, fast projectiles. It's about being able to limit movement on the stage in order to maintain strong positional advantages.

Any term to define them is pretty vague, "Zoning" characters may work, tho...

Why most people consider advantages on this kind of characters are fair?
I would imagine that for the main part it's at least one of the following:

1) Limiting MK
It just so happens that MK's bad not so great stages happen to favour those characters, so they benefit from MK being broken or close to it.

2) Focus on players
Given what people traditionally define as core skills, static stages allow the players to focus more on those. The named characters just happen to be good on those stages.

In the end, I doubt that a lot of people make a starter list with character balance (or however you want to call it) in mind, but focus on other aspects. In other words, they don't care about a median of bias. On the other hand, they probably don't start with thinking "Let's see, what stages do we need to make X character high tier?" either, it just happens naturally.
Personally, I would probably use stages with transformations as starters, but that's something for another time.

Why categorize them at all? Can't we just acknowledge that some characters tend to favour more static stages, without sticking them in a group with a label? x.x

Umm, this is wrong, YI(B) is a great stage for Diddy, on par with Battlefield. Diddy also does fine on any stage that isn't RC or Brinstar, and there are even people who like RC as Diddy.

Diddy would probably be fine on RC if it wasn't pretty much guaranteed to be packaged with MK. I really don't find RC to me a major issue without MK involved. I think the stage is just a dumb obstacle course that devolves the game into pure camping and gimmick kills, but its a playable game I suppose and it helps that all the other flying characters suck.

Speaking of Toon Link he's so fun to play.

Ban the stage so there are more Toon Links.

It's a pity I won't have a go to CP against Wolf though.

So let me get this straight.

M2K is really good at gimping people
+
He's playing MK's best stage in the matchup he's probably most comfortable in (the ditto)
+
Ally, while talented, has not been an MK main nearly as long as M2K has
=
Ally gets 2stocked (notably not 3-stocked like a "broken" stage should cause)

And apparently this is the stage's fault?

Brinstar isn't broken. Just learn how to play on it. The lava may be random, but it is completely avoidable. I will say that this stage gives a huge advantage to aerial based characters, but that is what makes it makes such a great counter pick stage. I just don't see how this stage could be legal while other stages such as Jungle Japes are banned.

Says the guy with 1500+ posts. They should when you put in as much time and money as some of us on this site do.
LOL WTF.

Just because you do something often or spend time on it, doesnt automatically mean that you take it serious.

I could hang out with my friends all day long, what that mean I take hanging out with friends serious?

No of course not.

What I meant, was, that BPC should stop trying to put THAT much of effort into the topic, especially in the way he does it. Writing 18748073807 words long posts, which dont do ANYTHING, because people dont care.

Thats what he doesnt understand. HE ISNT RIGHT!!! And he doesnt want to accept that. He's like a child that just cant lose or accept when he is wrong.

He insulted me or Gheb and others too multiple times. You know what? I was ALWAYS friendly to BPC, even though I think he's sometimes really stupid with his behaviour and opinions. But that doesnt matter. I was still friendly to him.

Hell, what he does is disrespecting. And for what? For disagreeing with him?
Thats just immature.

That's a load of horse**** and you should damn well know it. I'm sorry, I've been over the why too many times to count. You can claim to be doing it "for the good of competition"... You're full of ****. Your justification for banning Brinstar applies to Frigate, Delfino, PS1, Halberd, and SMASHVILLE in some way or another. You're riding on popular support. That's it. That's all you have. You think you're right? You're not.

Well sometimes I get angry. Sometimes I see people like you pushing an agenda that I not only disagree with, but which I can guarantee is wrong. You think I'm being stupid? You're wrong. You're simply wrong. I put up with you acting like a moron, throwing your quite frankly embarrassing amount of influence in germany around to get what you want for the competitive scene.

Hell, what he does is disrespecting. And for what? For disagreeing with him?

Yeah, I'm sorry, but you're wrong.

NO ONE IS RIGHT OR WRONG!!!
Why doesnt that go into your head? god damn.

There is no right or wrong stage list.
There are only logical/good-reasoned ones and illogical/bad-reasoned ones.

But when its the latter, it still isnt wrong.

If you don't like BPC, just ignore him.
