Venusaur the best. Hardest part of pretty much all RPGs (including pokemon) is the start of the game. Starting gym is rock, 2nd gym is water. Grass pwns both.

the start of 99% of rpgs = you cant grind well/yet at all.

when a game gets far enough to grind up, the the difficulty is an illusion then its a simple question of knowledge and patience rather than difficulty

on the contrary, rpgs are too easy, so you try to make them harder for yourself. that and charizard > everything.

On being awesome:
In every gen Grass is useless and either Water is the best or Water goes head to head with Fire (Blaziken vs Swampert man idk???)

if you try to catch as many pokemon as you can from the start
squirtle turns out easier
coz you dont even have to level him really to beat rock you just 1HKO
And then you catch oddish or paras on the way to cerulean and he's already level 13 or something so you just go in and win.
plus you have to cope with the fact that bulba is pug-ugly whereas squirtle is a king.

also like to point out, even the 3rd and 4th gym are cake for Saur. And by the time blaine gym rolls along, you'd already have a gyarados or something with surf.

Soz guys thought the motto was "gotta catch them all" not "try to beat all the gyms with one pokemon"

Unless you use Pidgey for cred you should be following the first motto.
There isnt much time to level your pokemon before Brock if you aren't grinding, just going forwards.
By the time you get to cerulean, starter should be high enough level that it doesnt matter and the same applies for all gyms later especially if you CATCH OTHER POKEMON YEAH
