All of canada's top players have this weird a** thing where they think they arent good, or not THAT good, when they are like top 10 in the world or something

must be something in the water

Lol. Fine people.

It's all in my head. No johns

Edit: I am gonna write up some thoughts about some of the BH2 sets now that they are on YT at some point. I haven't been on a computer for a while though

controller johns are pretty legit but if you don't want to have to deal with everyone ragging you when you say you had controller johns the simple solution is to just forfeit..if you really think your controller is messing up there is no way you're going to get useful practice in anyway, so I would just forfeit and play friendlies.

And controllers do matter..I remember one time long ago, I found a mystical controller that somehow had the regions on the control stick massively screwed up..because of this perfect wavedashing and everything that required fine control suddenly had wider controller regions making it far easier to perform stuff.

I also remember that every time I switch controllers at a friend's house I constantly have this problem of doing turn around in place into turn around in place into turn around in place. All because the centering of the joystick is different than what i'm used to. But anyway, even if you were playing badly because of controller issues everyone expects people to just overlook it and not bring it up..because ultimately it was the player's choice to continue playing (and thereby have his play judged) while he was using a broken controller

ps - i didn't really read back that far..just noticed the topic had moved to controller johns and was amazed that jman seems to think controllers don't matter..

Maybe if you switch controllers every day you can eventually learn to adjust to a new one faster?

Everytime I land a turn around shine in air I can never waveland off a platform, my jump doesn't come out at all. I know of course let the control stick go back to neutral but I just can't do it lol. Any tips?
Also, why is it so damn hard to shineland while hitting an opponents shield? I can shineland pretty consistently, but when that shield is there the timing is so different :/

You don't need to let the control stick go back to neutral in order to JC shine turn-around. Just wait out the hitlag before you input the turn-around. Test it on the ground to just get a feeling for how quickly you can turn around after shining someone.

I asked both Strong Bad and ajp why shinelanding on opponent's is harder, and they both basically told me I was imagining it...

I asked Sypher and he went in to AR and figured it out in 10 min. lol The basic gist of how it works is that you're JCing the shine too early. Depending on how high above the platform you are when you shine, it takes a certain number of frames to land after the shine comes out. It isn't like a multishine where you land frame 4. So if you JC as fast as you can, you will miss shinelands consistently even if you aren't hitting someone. However, most people don't make it a point to JC shines frame perfectly all the time, so in those few extra frames before our JC, our shine actually lands onto the platform. If you are hitting someone, you have to JC x number of frames slower, with x being however many frames of hitlag your move causes. So if they are invincible (which causes massive hitlag), then after you shine you have to just chill so your shine has time to land, and then you JC. Maybe I will go ask him about the details for how many frames it takes to land, but I it's going to be different depending on whether you're using Fox or Falco, how high the platform is, and where you are initially jumping from. For instance, I am working on incorporating the ability to run off plats towards the middle, and DJ shineland onto the top plat. It is much better at working in shield pressure, and for things like shining people off the top, it's the only way to get it to work. If you shine-waveland a Peach on the top plat, you don't have enough time to FH+DJ real quick and shine them again. If you shineland instead, you can immediately go into your FH+DJ and get them before they're out of stun (or at least make it much closer).

They don't its all in your head

they all do the same thing I use to think controllers were important

untill I did not own 1 cause mine was stolen and when I went to tourney i just asked some1 to use there's and won the tourney anyway

From that day on I have never owned a controller and I just went to tourneys and used some1 else controller and that was like 2 and a half years ago and I don't no how many tourneys I won with other peoples controllers lol

So yes I think ots all in your head

What? There are plenty of players in Philly. Or at least I thought that was the case based on the one time I went there and 20-some people were packed into an apartment. lol
