I think everyone knows that. There's one big one that's pretty hard to find, and a very little one.

Any idea why you guys didn't remove DK's Dtilt infinite against walls? I don't see any change for Dtilt in there, was it impossible to fix because it ruined Dtilt?

Also, explain to me the general idea for the buffs to DK's moves, especially the ones that effect his Dtoss, Ftilt, and Uair.

DK d-tilt is one big hitbox, and making it have enough knockback to be teched basically ruins every valid use of the move by DK.

Cargo down throw was made stronger because it was a low-% chain in corners that set up the d-tilt infinite.

F-tilt is only marginally buffed. The main issue was that before it was unsafe on hit at low %s. Jab had a similar (and tiny) buff.

Uair isn't changed at all.

Hand Slap is a very subtle buff. It was Big O who originally noticed that the shieldstun of the extra % kept frame-6 jump characters (such as Wario) from jumping out of shield between the Hand Slap hits, making the move much safer against them.

A friend and I are playing Balanced Brawl, but he's coded a bit of Brawl+ into it as well for our own personal use. Specifically, he's added the following (with some tweaking):

-Hit lag reduction in fast attacks like Falco or Fox's standard A attack, or Pit's standard A, or Dedede's standard A, and so on;
-Given Lucario the ability to attack out of his Up+B recovery after a few frames;
-Given Lucas and Ness the ability to use Up+B more than once while in the air if the PK Thunder is absorbed/reflected/ran into on purpose (I don't like this one, personally)
-Ivysaur can use Vine Whip in the air again if he flubs it, removing helplessness

Just out of curiosity, what are your feelings on these tweaks when put side-by-side with Balanced Brawl's philosophy?

Everything works well, like Yoshi grounding opponents with forward-air and Ganondorf's new boots of doom, but there have been some problems. We've tried to add Ike's Quick Draw fix, but it doesn't work. Apparently the Conditional Action Modifiers for Brawl+ and Balanced Brawl get mixed up and problems happen.

Any idea how we can add the tweaks my friend made, plus Ike's Quick Draw?

I want to finish off by saying that so far, Balanced Brawl is a great success between us. We can barely tell the difference, until one of us is flying because of a Wizard's Foot, or tripping due to Luigi's dash attack. Keep up the great work!

Interesting, well I know in PSA that DK's Dtilt is shown with three different hitboxes that all have a 40% trip rate. But I understand the situation with it. Thanks for explaining them. :)

Excellent post.

As for the specific changes:

I'm not sure what the motivation is for repeating jab hitlag changes. Are you trying to make the SDI window smaller? Since repeating jabs are of little to no significance to most matchups, this project doesn't care too much about them.

Letting Lucario attack after up-b doesn't really help his bad recovery that much, which was never really a polarizing factor to begin with in standard Brawl. It's just kind of a useless change for the sake of change attempting to help Lucario for the sake of helping Lucario.

Ness and Lucas are unique in that they have a variety of tools to assist their recovery, which is otherwise bad. Removing the ability to gimp them makes their recovery quite good and much less creative. BBrawl's buffs to Ness and Lucas assume that they need a strong on-stage game to work around their off-stage weakness. If Lucas's enhanced ground game or Ness's gazillion damage Pk Fire to d-throw to fair combo were combined with great recovery, they would be in a dangerously well-off position. It's sort of like Link, who also got a TON of buffs to match his awful recovery.

Ivysaur was intended to remain able to still be gimped if off-stage with a precisely timed ledge-grab. Of course, a really clever Ivysaur can intentionally miss by aiming the opposite direction to mindgame the opponent into grabbing the ledge prematurely. As a defensive character, it is pretty important to Ivysaur's design that he not want to be off the stage.

I am not sure how the conditional codes are conflicting. The only two lines you should need are the ones BBrawl uses:

Code:
2200011C 0010000F
2200011D 0010000F
Brawl+ only uses the one on hit, I think. (Someone said this, I could be wrong.)

Thanks for your feedback! I'll be glad to continue to discuss any questions.

It was pretty stupid getting hit out of the jab combo at low damage and the aerial headbutt sourspot (not Uair) was probably the worst hit in the game contending with the likes of Ganon's old up b. Now DK's jab combo always works and side b sourspot is safe on hit (it can actually gimp with or without sweetspotting on some characters now).

Ftilt is safe on hit at low damage now and the downward variant has a very nice gimp angle giving it some utility when edge guarding (the only real time anyone angles it down). Ftilt is also a better kill move now which is nice to have in your back pocket at high damage.

The dash attack angle change just makes it better for getting them off the stage. Dthrow to dash attack is a combo on some characters and now there is a reason to do it. It's also pretty good in CP stages with walk-offs.

Down b just a little better overall now. A little safer on block, a little more shield damage, a little more knockback, and a modest boost to his spacing game.

With the cargo throw change that makes it techable at 0% (a nerf in CP stages and doubles play) the Dtilt infinite isn't that bad. Without a reliable setup for it you would have to be pretty silly to fall for it now.

Reducing hitlag makes Mr. Game & Watch's turtle really ridiculous, among other moves (such as Peach's down aerial). It's just the way Brawl is that hitlag is a major factor in the effectiveness of moves; I don't think this is a bad thing.

I really don't like the Lucario change. It is just unnecessary, and it's really powerful and very style changing. I know with Mr. Game & Watch I use his up special as a chase a lot, and he would be a radically worse character without it. So I can only imagine this is a very powerful buff to Lucario, and given that he doesn't seem bad at all, I worry that such a buff is moving against balance, not for it.

I really don't feel as though Ness and Lucas need recovery buffs. Brawl+ is so different, especially for Ness, since their ledge mechanics and higher gravity are really bad for Ness's recovery. With our (default Brawl) mechanics, I feel as though there's no need for such a thing. Lucas has an amazing recovery already so...

Ivysaur's up special not entering helpless is already in Balanced Brawl. Such a change is not necessary to add to it. If you mean the precision gimp possible, I don't think it's a big deal to be honest; my original motivation for not adding it was that I didn't want to find the correct action ID for tethering a ledge, but I later saw positive gameplay implications from the way it was working so decided to stick with it.

Anyway, as per your question about customizing the code (which is what you're doing), I can say that we don't generally extent our support services to such things, but if I had to guess, the mistake you're making is probably not incrementing the bitcount on the array. You have more conditional modifiers than before so you need to increase that value at the end of the first line. If that's not it, I can't imagine what it could be...

I'll take your reply first since you were first. :)

We didn't realize that making the reduction in hit lag made the blows stronger because they fly out faster. We just thought they sped up the game a little. Well, I did think that DI seemed to suffer because we were getting hit faster without being able to escape faster. We're taking that one out.

My friend thought that Lucario being unable to do anything out of his short-range, non-damaging Up+B was a bit weak for a Pokemon with such good air game, and I agreed. We actually didn't have the opportunity to test this change properly since we were focusing mostly on the ground. However, it may be an unnecessary buff after all considering how high-priority Lucario's air attacks are.

That's a very good point regarding Ness and Lucas. We're removing that bit of code.

Actually, most Up+B changes were done to mirror some inconsistencies that we thought existed with certain characters with tethers. Zero Suit Samus can use her Paralyzer to tether infinitely (until she falls out...), but then again, her recovery is pretty awesome on purpose. We are probably going to remove the Ivysaur tweak too, especially since it's included in Balanced Brawl.

We're removing Brawl+'s CAM coding and replacing it with Balanced Brawl's. My friend is doing the grunt work of coding. I'm just here to find some more playing friends and get some clarifications on mods like this. :)

I addressed the hit lag reduction in Thinkaman's post...

Also Lucario's, though I will clarify that's all we changed. It's not like we doubled his jumping height, but I see your point.

Again, Lucas and Ness addressed above. I actually didn't connect the dots between Brawl+'s gravity increase and the lack thereof in Balanced Brawl. I could've said that when my friend and I were debating the change. :)

We'll keep Balanced Brawl's change to Ivysaur.

I'll run that coding problem through my friend. See what he says.

OK. I have two more questions regarding Balanced Brawl.
1) Does Balanced Brawl remove the C-stick down aerial fastfall? My friend claims he didn't see that in your coding. Personally, I love this tweak, since I use the C-stick like a maniac...
2) My friend included the Brawl+ improved character selection screen. There's no problem with the individual Pokemon icons since Balanced Brawl doesn't have the "only individual Pokemon" Pokemon Trainer tweak. Any plans to add this to Balanced Brawl for the sake of an interface upgrade?

I'm curious about the official stance on why you chose not to freeze stages.
Since you did slow down and mod the boundaries to increase viability, was there any consideration put into freezing or reversing stages?
WarioWare for example makes a very viable starter/counter while frozen or reversed.

We thought about it, but we decided that maintaining the uniqueness of the stages is the most important thing. WarioWare frozen is no longer truly WarioWare. To be honest, we wanted to just tweak the prize system and make WarioWare a counterpick with the games being really unique and cool, but we weren't able to get the codes. We hold out hope for this for the next release in 4-6 months.

Just wondering, how you expect ICs to be viable without their chain grabs.
Sure you buffed some of their moves, but ICs were nowhere near broken, and they wouldnt need some amazing way to make up for their chain grabs.
Gonna try this out tomarrow, should be interesting, maybe if its good ill try and have some BBrawl side tournies.

Icies are still pretty viable in their new ways.
Though, to my knowledge, our IC's didn't play them much Saturday when we had BBrawl going, I will just say they "seem" fine for now.

In response to this entire, mind****, I love you so much Think.

This is simply amazing. Once again, excellent job. I plan on making my next huge college tournament with 80+ people a Balanced Brawl tournament. It will be a breeze thanks to Stack Smash's Stage Hack.

Here's the thread for my tourney in case you/anyone else is interested. I will come back and post feedback that I get from the casual and competitive players. I can't wait.

Are there no PAL users that can test the codes to figure out where the problem is? That's all we're waiting on. I'll upload a PAL .txt to the media fire i anyone wants to try while I'm asleep. PM me or Ampharos, or drop me an IM. I will push out a fixed file ASAP.

Edit: Upload complete.

do you have the HBC, or are you going to load it without it?

Balanced Brawl can be booted on any Wii, including Wiis without the Homebrew Channel!
this is the best thing to happen to BBrawl. maybe i can finally convince my friends to play BBrawl consistently, instead of just at my place. does the loading of BBrawl without the HBC work online???

PAL version problems have been figured out. It was a very small flaw in the throw data (I was using the wrong memory location). I have to wait for Thinkaman to update the main download, but here's the text of the code file so any intrepid PAL users who want it tonight can try it out (I know by the time he gets on, you'll all be in bed).

Thanks go to Teneban for his testing of this. We were able to narrow down the problem code quickly, and at that point I just tried a few things until I found something stable (strangely enough, the Throw Data code is now identical to the NTSC version, but if it works, it works!).
