The term 'hardcore' is greatly overused. I think about three fourths of the people that call themselves that, are not really. I mean, you've got to think, are you truly hardcore or just a normal gamer?

I'd say I'm actually normal. I don't practice twenty-four-seven or anything. I just play a few hours a day, for fun.

Yeah, that crap is pretty annoying when family or other people that i know that are not into the same hobbies as i and say, you're a hardcore gamer because whenever i see you and you are home or not doing anything, you are playing those games, and its irritating 'cause i see it like this, what about those who watch TV 24/7, or folks that shops like madmen, what, do we call them "hardcore shoppers?!!?" The point is that those who enjoy a particular hobby should be addressed by that, and not a hardcore version of it. Thanks for posting this up Scav, i'm going to spread the word of this issue from my Facebook and MySpace

I always use to say "competitive gamer" or sometimes "pro gamer" but I prefer competitive.
I already said this, it's not the same thing. "competetive" means you play to win and learn tactics & skills to do so, and compete with others for fun and winning's sake. "Pro gamer" means you are actually making money off this, whether it's from tourney winnings, MLG signing, or both. Or something else like endorsements (Fatal1ty comes to mind). "Pro" means "professional", not "Good at games"... although it can be used in that context! :bee:

I don't get it either.
Why be called hardcore???
Does that mean they something like.. 24/7 crazy addict memorizing everything??
Anyways, just receiving normal names like "Awesome/Pro/Intermediate" kinda thing seems okay to me. >.>
But everyone has their opinion.
I like Palpi's Legit Gamers idea though xD
It just sounds like we're normal people and we have lives. xD

Stop the argument.

Gamers will always be gamers.

Hardcore is a relative term that will never have a definite and true meaning.

Competitive is a different story.

I'd totally agree to everything in the first post. It really doesn't matter how good you are. Anyway I'd never call myself one because there's a lot of people better than me (and when it comes to Brawl, I do admit I get owned like over 60% of the time)...but seriously, every gamer is just themselves. I call myself a casual gamer because I play for fun and I'm not the competitive type. Even though I lose, I can always train and try again. The term "hard core" shouldn't really exist in the gaming world -.-

when did the term hardcore come into existence? Don't take this question literally, I'm just saying the idea of a hardcore gamer probably isn't even real. I, myself have only heard of it in the last two years and its only because of the Wii and the load of games that play at the same angle. There are even reviews that don't recognize smash bros. as a fighting game, because its on the Wii I presume.

It's mainly because it's not built to be a fighter nor is it marketed as such. Since Smash64 it was always made to be a party game. Brawl has been their most succesful movement towards the party game ideal, unfortunately. Melee being their worst.

If you play Tetris, your a gamer. If you play Super Smash Bros. Brawl, your a gamer.
casual and hardcore is just a way to identify what type of games a certain gamer is interested in. I play both types of games. They can call me hardcore and casual, but it just means that I'm a gamer, and only a gamer. Or what I've been called at school, a "Game Freak" or a "Game Nerd". It only complements me and raises my selfasteam.

I mean competitive means you want to win more than casual players so you go into details about the game which makes them 'competitive'. Casual players just play game for fun which makes them 'casual'

Hehe, I always felt like the term 'hardcore gamer' was a bit overused. There are many different terms that could be used depending on the circumstances, and I think I'll try and avoid using that term so lightly from now on.

hardcore?

Well actually, I consider my self "hardcore" in a different sense. That actual definition fits me, but the thing is, most casual games are either not fun or they get boring for me.

I care about the design, the programming, everything.
Then I get down to the point, is it fun?

And anyway, I may be bashing casual games a lot, but only the boring ones.

Wii Music sucks, you may say it's fun, but try getting to the point, you don't HAVE to hold it like a trumpet and blow, just shake it.

The Wii isn't even casual anymore, it's going backwards, to the point where games were just little play things.

Luckily, they still have actual games on it, just the Wii *insert action here* titles of games are bad.
