    To me the problem with FE is the quantity, not the quality. If Everyone is Here wasn't a thing, multiple other series had the same amount of characters, or FE didn't get a high amount of newcomers in 3DS/Wii U Byleth probably would've been a decent reveal - but when FE, a mildly niche series that only really has a fanbase within the Nintendo community outside of Japan, has more characters than series like Donkey Kong, Kirby, Zelda and god damn SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, then it's a problem, and stripping Byleth of his sword or revealing him earlier the Fighters' Pass wouldn't change a little bit.

    I don't really mean niche in the "EarthBound pre-Smash" or "Golden Sun" way, more that it wouldn't be instantly recognisable, if recognisable at all, to non-Nintendo fans.

    These things are decided by corporate deals and profit, not by obscurity or lack of or Terry would never have been a thing. When you have a gatcha that's making money hand over fist then of course you would want to advertise it. Pleasing old fans isn't the worry, it's advertising to new fans.

    Little Mac mains are the biggest chads in Smash. Marth (or "inferior" clones in general) mains and (non-Sans) meme Mii mains come close too.

    So, they're making a Donkey Kong wall callendar for 2021, which might not seem notable if not for 2 things: 1. as far as I can tell they've never made a DK wall calendar before, and doing it now seems a little bit... well, suspicious is a bit too strong a word, but... telling, I guess?, and 2. King K. Rool, using his Paon render, is in the calendar, getting top billing for April, despite it being mostly themed around and using renders from the Returns duology.

    Kotaku posted an article stating for a fact the unused Star Fox 2 character is black because of her hair.

    If you just Google search "star fox 2 human" you'll find an earlier dumped spritesheet from almost a year ago featuring her with clearly white skin, right on the first row of results.

    I'm starting to understand why people hate that website.

    Yeah his videos have a very sensationalist jock humor to them that can be very persuasive. I overlooked his abrasive personality because I like many mistook his crudeness as genuine passion which it was just in a different direction. The Author fact shocked me too showing that art does not always reflect life.

    Something I just realised about the PS1 games library: when it came to platformers, the PS1 was more conventional compared to Saturn or 64 with more linear and sometimes even 2D games - that's because, just like with the rest of the PS1 library, they were appealing to the older audience who grew up with the previous generation's Mario and Sonic games! how did I never realise this?

    My personal theory on how Super Monkey became Yoshi's Island:

    Began as a Stanley game with DK and a monkey army as the villains, Rare pitched DKC, it was approved, having DK as the antagonist would be contradictory when a game starring DK as the hero is coming out at the same time, so instead of creating a new set of antagonists for Stanley to fight the game was reworked into a Yoshi game featuring existing Mario villains, and eventually evolved into something completely new.

    Don't take this as fact, just my theory.

    I think Kaptain K. Rool would work better as an echo or semiclone than an alt, the krown's hitbox wouldn't really work with a pirate hat.

    As iconic as King K. Rool is, I would trade him for Kaptain K. Rool in a heartbeat. I know they're the same character, but a default Kaptain K. Rool alt with a Kaptain K. Rool moveset would be more exciting to me than what we got. I love how K. Rool turned out in Ultimate with how his Specials and Smash Attacks reference his boss fights like the crown toss from DKC, Blunderbuss from DKC2, jetpack from DKC3, and boxing gloves from DK64. But Kaptain K. Rool with a Kaptain K. Rool fully inspired moveset would be more hyped for me.

    I can't find any old "Meta Knight for Smash" threads from pre-Brawl's reveal. I did find one for Diddy where a poster super accurately predicted how Diddy would act and play in Smash, but I can't find ANYTHING for Meta Knight, not even when I search "Smash 3" or "Melee 2" instead of "Brawl", or limit my search from 2001 to 2006. Did literally nobody want Meta Knight in Smash or something? I wanted to put a picture of a Meta Knight support thread, add the caption "be careful what you wish for" and send it some friends for a laugh.

    Imagine if the source code for Melee got leaked... we might find out for a fact whether wavedashing was intentional or not! Not to mention cut characters and stages.

    I wonder how cut characters, assuming they exist, would be handled in competitive play... I'll use Diddy Kong as an example - how far would Diddy be in development? would he have a model but no animations/code, or code/animations but no model? either way, how much of a desire would there be to finish Diddy? If he had code, would he be edited to resemble his canon Smash counterpart more? and if so, how would Banana Peel be handled given tripping isn't a thing in Melee? and either way, if someone does make a fully functional, balanced out Diddy, would he be competitive legal?

    Mach Rider and Ayumi Tachibana were considered for the Retro slot before Sakurai went with the Ice Climbers so it would be amazing to see if they had models, renders, and voice clips in the earlier builds of Melee. I really can't wait for them to dump the Gamecube stuff so we can uncover Melee's deepest secrets.

    Shy Guy in Mario Kart DS was basically a strategy to encourage people to buy a copy, but it just ended up making people take out their copies when playing with friends to play as the cool secret character.

    The next Smash game should just cut all single player content (except Vs. CPU) and focus on making the best possible multiplayer. That and a port are the only feasible ways I can see Everyone is Here coming back.

    Maybe not all single-player content. Probably not something to the extent of thoughtfully-crafted Classic Modes and campaigns, but things like multi-man melee and all-star mode should stay. I don’t see those being too terribly difficult to implement, but after all, I’m no game designer.

    Yeah, looking back on it... I did get 3 of my 4 most wanted (Pac, DH, Miis) at so I was pretty pleased, but wow... almost everyone's either a joke character or anime with swords...

    I kinda have to agree here. The only ones i remember fondly are Mega Man and Little Mac, and maybe Bowser Jr, Duck Hunt and Cloud if only for shock value. The rest are kinda there. Compared to Melee, Brawl, and Ultimate, 4's Newcomer pool, they feel not as diverse and kinda samey.

    As a kid I really didn't like Wario Land 4, but going back to it I'm really enjoying it and certainly understand the hype. I think I didn't like it at first because I played Wario Land 1 first and as such my simple child mind assumed 4 would be more of the same, and as such the constant puzzles were a bit of a shock.

    I love Crash Bandicoot and really want him in Smash, but I don't think he's this super important part of gaming history like a lot of people say. The only things distinguishing him from someone like Bubsy or Gex are the quality of his games and longevity of his franchise.

    I think the best way to handle the Steve music situation would be to class MC's music under "Others" and include a few Minecraft songs, mostly remixes, alongside music from another (non-gaming) Microsoft property, Windows. I know the phrase "Windows music", let alone "Windows music in Smash", sounds like a meme but there are some real jams in Windows, and their cheesy midi instruments make them fit Minecraft's blocky world pretty well.

    I'd say the 4 most deserving series not yet in Smash are Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto, Angry Birds and Space Invaders.

    Honestly, Saints Row would be much easier to include. Not only is there only ever *one* consistent lead character (especially compared to V having three and no Byleth equivalent), they eventually get divine powers.

    truth be told I would never call the cops on someone no matter how bad knowing how screwed up my country's prison system is.

    Once a cop gave this super lengthy description of prison (UK doesn't have jails, only prisons) to me, including the food, and I mentioned that I'm an extremely picky eater and as such they would need to provide correct food for my safety, and you know what he did? That a-hole told me he wouldn't mind if I starved to death.

    Plus, when I was younger I did call the cops on my mother for kicking me in the torso - and nothing happened, the police visited, but my mum wasn't punished, and all that happened was me constantly being shamed over the course of what was supposed to a fun holiday a few weeks later.

    It's surprising 3D arena platform fighters (like Power Stone) have never took off competitively. The only one I can think of that's really ever had an active scene is Shrek Super Slam, which began as a joke anyway (through it has evolved since then, I've heard the SSS community Discord is pretty active)

    Q*Bert is a strange character from a copyright perspective as he's owned by Sony - but their movie division, not their game division. Now I wonder... would it be possible for Q*Bert to appear in Smash in any form? I believe Sakurai said one of his reasons (but not his main reason) for excluding non-game characters is because of the difficulty of working with companies from different industries, so say if Sakurai REALLY wanted to add Q*Bert, would working with Sony Pictures be a driving force for him not making the cut?

    I’m pretty certain that, if Sakurai really wants (X character) in Smash, he’ll do everything in his power to make it happen-even if it involves working with (Y company). Sony Pictures may not want Q*Bert in Smash-but if they do, and Sakurai wants him, I’m certain Sakurai and Nintendo will do everything in their power to make it work out.

    I'm not saying it's wrong to be disappointed about Isaac's absence from the playable roster, but god damn Golden Sun fans have it lucky in Ultimate - an AT, two songs, 7 (technically 8) Spirits, a Mii costume... fans of other AT characters would kill for that kind of attention, it's pretty impressive for what is basically a D-tier Nintendo franchise in terms of popularity.
