The one, single good thing I can say about how much needless emphasis Smash gives to its newcomers is that it makes imagining comedic/lighthearted character picks a lot more fun. I'm a very strong supporter of having 5 seperate Tetrominos in Smash, and while character trailers are a burden to that idea, and playable Tetris rep in general IMO, it is really funny to imagine someone slowly realising "Oh god, they're doing all of them, aren't they?" as a trailer goes on - though in practice I have a feeling it would be a lot less fun, the amount of emotional attachment Smash trains fans to have to the roster would probably cause 5/7 Tetrominos to have legitimate negative impacts upon people's mental health... God, I hate Smash marketing.
