I don't get what it is specifically about Nintendo fandom that evokes wisfulness for alternate timelines. With every other fandom it feels like people express what they want as "do this now" - like, "Can we have Shadow in Sonic games again?", not "If only Shadow was in Sonic Colours", but with Nintendo fans they tend to express it as "Go back to 2003 and do that then" if that makes sense?
